Wow... this is insanely difficult... still searching.

NobodyHere 08-02-2019 12:52 PM

Are we talking "tomato meter" or "audience score" on rotten tomatoes? Or both?

ISiddiqui 08-02-2019 12:55 PM

I'm guessing tomato meter. I have a few pre-2000 (Tommy Boy being one), but I'm betting they put that in place because the reviews before 2000 on RT are a little more scattershot and harder to get so may not accurately reflect critical consensus.

molson 08-02-2019 12:58 PM

I figured dumb comedies would be the way to go for this, and yes, the David Wain/MTV's The State cast member movies mostly get horrible reviews and I love them all - Wet Hot American Summer (36%), The Ten (36%), The Baxter (32%), Reno 911 Miami (34%)

NobodyHere 08-02-2019 12:59 PM

If by tomato meter alone then I will say I liked the Death Wish reboot with Bruce Willis. Terrible tomato score but a good audience score.

bob 08-02-2019 01:01 PM

The Village and Lady in the Water work for me.

+1 for Reno 911

THAT was the key for me.

Joe Dirt--11% (But a 63% audience score).

Warhammer 08-02-2019 01:04 PM

Super Troopers for me.

Butter 08-02-2019 01:15 PM

The Box, with Cameron Diaz and Frank Langella, adaptation of short story and Twilight Zone episode "Button, Button". I thought it was batshit crazy in a good way. People do not agree.

Wilson with Woody Harrelson squeaks in at 48%. I liked it.

AlexB 08-02-2019 01:29 PM

The A-Team, Bruce Almighty, Perfect Storm all fit the bill.

Not my favourite movies, but would quite happily watch them if I find them channel surfing

Kodos 08-02-2019 02:04 PM

I vote for Alien Resurrection, although technically it was '97 and got a 56 tomato score. I really enjoyed it, even if it pales in comparison to Alien and Aliens.

JonInMiddleGA 08-02-2019 02:05 PM

I gotta think the most challenging part of this for me will be the post-2000 movie aspect

(I'll update with the outcome)

Took me all of three tries:
Talk Radio was way too old (1988)
Meet The Robinsons scores surprisingly well (like around 70% fresh I think)

Third try was the charm: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief, 49% fresh (and just 53% audience)

The three I posted were OK films, but I actually do really like The Village.

This reminds me of the Joe Bob Briggs quote about Alien 3 (which I totally agree with):

"This movie didn't suck as much as everyone says it did."

SirFozzie 08-02-2019 02:39 PM

Speed Racer

Scarecrow 08-02-2019 02:53 PM

Not sure I understand, but for me it would be the entire Divergent series...

ISiddiqui 08-02-2019 03:33 PM

I think Wet Hot American Summer comes closest for me... but I don't know if I like it enough. I mean I probably wouldn't watch it if I randomly stumbled on it flipping channels, but I thought it amusing when I first saw it.

Also surprised by how many dumb comedies have high scores - 40 Year Old Virgin (85%), Dodgeball (70%), The Hangover (78%), Anchorman (66%), Anchorman 2 (74% !!).

edit: Holy crap, Borat is 91% on RT!

Rip Torn was great in this.

RIP Rip.

RainMaker 08-02-2019 03:41 PM

Kingdom of Heaven (39%)

Vanilla Sky (42%)

Shooter (47%)

This is harder than I thought. Even Troy doesn't fit the bill. These are all pretty close. Wonder if anyone can find a movie they genuinely liked that is under 20%.

ISiddiqui 08-02-2019 03:42 PM

Found one!

National Treasure (2004) - 46%

miked 08-02-2019 04:09 PM

Beerfest, got a 40% (but a 75% audience).

I’m with you on this- it’s a fun film!

larrymcg421 08-02-2019 04:58 PM

Final Destination - 33%

Couldn't find any post-2000 yet. There are lots of movies I like in the 50-59% range, which still counts as Rotten by their metrics.

Toddzilla 08-02-2019 07:24 PM

I don't even know how to look up a list of bad movies on RT

Edward64 08-02-2019 08:01 PM

Tears of the Sun 33%

Its somewhat old and worn now, the novelty has passed. It was one of the earlier SEAL war movies that I thought was pretty authentic. Watch it whenever I catch it flipping channels.

Tears of the Sun (2003) - Rotten Tomatoes

Armageddon 38%

(Okay, it came out in 1998 so close enough)

Armageddon (1998) - Rotten Tomatoes

Bruce - you won't win any major movie awards but I've watched you since Moonlighting. Appreciate all the great and not so great movies.

Yes. I just don't watch movies any more, and haven't for a long time -- at least outside a) kids movies or b) Marvel. And even there I'm woefully behind.

DavidCorperial 08-02-2019 09:29 PM

One I like is The Replacements (2000) which is a 41%, it was a really solid sports movie in my mind, and Keanu actually did a really good acting job in my opinion.

Brian Swartz 08-02-2019 09:40 PM

Only one listed in the post-2000 set that I liked was National Treasure so far. I'm like a couple others though - I don't like the direction movies have gone in general so I rarely go to the theatre and when I do my opinions are typically a minority. More on the opposite side from this challenge though - I don't like movies that others do.

MrBug708 08-02-2019 09:58 PM

13th Warrior, but came out in 99

Chief Rum 08-03-2019 01:47 AM

A lot of good candidates so far.

One of my favorite movies qualifies.

Man On Fire

Solid choice here.

stevew 08-03-2019 03:52 AM

The Rock makes a lot of these movies. “Faster” for example. Snitch is slightly over 50%. I’m guessing Mark Wahlberg has stuff like Contraband on this list. Proof of Life(mid 40%) from Russell Crow has its moments. Battleship is probably under 50%.

Hot Rod(39%)

CraigSca 08-03-2019 07:30 AM

The Heartbreak Kid, 2007 version, not the original with Charles Grodin. There are a lot of scenes that miss, and some graphical sex scenes, but I still find myself coming back for laughs years later.

tarcone 08-03-2019 07:50 AM

The Dukes of Hazard 14%

Just a funny movie. I really like this one. Its a great nod the TV series.

Love Final Destination and own all 3.

The Heartbreak kid is my favorite Ben Stiler movie.

I was going to agree with the Replacements, but then saw this. Wow. How in the hot hockey-sticks did this get a 39% score. It is one of my favorite movies. Super-shocked.

Jughead Spock 08-03-2019 12:21 PM

First one I found was Hardcore Henry (50%). Fortunately, that came up pretty quick, because not finding anything after that...

If we're nit-picking, and it has to be *below* 50%... I'll go with The Whole 9 Yards (45%)

Yep, love this one.

Mine for the list is Semi Pro (2008, 23%). I could watch that movie anytime, anywhere.

SackAttack 08-03-2019 02:58 PM

Death to Smoochy (2002, 42%) fits the bill for me.

stevew 08-03-2019 03:54 PM

Shooter really is the perfect example prob

Works for me too. As would 13th Warrior if the timing works.

RainMaker 08-03-2019 04:19 PM

I always liked the movie Mr Deeds.

NobodyHere 08-03-2019 04:35 PM

Big Trouble (2002) 48% RT score

It has a really great ensemble cast based on a Dave Barry(remember him?) novel. Not to mention a young Sofia Vergara in her first movie!

QuikSand 08-03-2019 06:46 PM

I tried to go really, really deep.

She Hate Me

Spike Lee joint, 2004, it was complicated but I thought "good" enough to qualify for this. Its scores are abysmal, a 19%.
