I thought he wanted a gas range?

Look at Consumer Reports.
For $700+ you can get a nice Weber like my mom has.
For ~$200 you can get a nice Brinkmann (Home Depot house brand) like I have, that's the same size as my mom's and does awesome. 20090615 Grill 001 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

For what it's worth, my mom got the one Consumer Reports recommended last year for the high price range. I got the one they recommended for the low price range. I'm very happy with mine.

Anybody have any thoughts on the infrared grills?

Got the same Brinkmann model. It's fantastic. Bought it on recommendation from my grandfather, who works in that department at Home Depot. He said they're every bit as durable as the Weber.

Under $700 preferably $600 or lower.

Sounds like you have both options then. Weber is great if you want to hit that high end, otherwise the Brinkmann is a fine substitute. You can buy a lot of steaks with the savings. :)

Since this will be sitting out all year in the fairly severe climate here between the 70 MPH winds we get up here at 7000+ feet in the spring and the winter snow I might go with the weber

why not put it inside in the winter? or in the garage? and if you're worried about the severe climate i would think you'd want to go cheaper and just plan on replacing it sooner...

Yeah, actually I am sure we will. But often Colorado the snow comes in October and early December or later March April so chances are the grill may already be out for the spring or still out for fall grilling also I would sure use a cover. I was looking at a cheaper grill Master Forge until I saw it had a recent recall for fire and burn danger on some parts defect. I also was looking at Ducane but now see they were bought by Weber and they proceeded to outsource the grills materials and manufacturing to China with the quality going down. There does not seem to be a medium with grills either expense and quality or low in price with poor quality. I expect a grill to last me at least 10 years or else I would just by a charcoal grill to be honest.

last time i looked for grills for someone i actually found a nice about.com article breaking down the different options and price ranges...check there *shrugs*

I have had my Weber grill for 10 years and leave it outside all winter in Michigan (granted not quite Colorado) becuase I use it all year long. I think I paid $350 for it back then and I have only had to replace the grill grates and "flavorizer bars" once. The rest of the grill looks like I could get another 10 years out of it at this point.

just got one. Highly impressed. Cooks very warm and it actually reminds me of some of the restaurant grills I used. Kenmore version of a char broil is what I have.

How much did that run?

stevew 04-13-2010 03:41 PM

I have this one.

I got it as a floor model that was scratched a bit, as I wasn't going to spend 400 on a grill. There's a basically exact same non-kenmore branded version at home depot. Maybe has a few very minor different things, and it runs 399.
