C'mon Dave Martinez, just let him pitch :)

I think if there if there is a game 163 with the Dodgers and Rockies it will be in LA no matter what. I don't think the Rockies can beat Scherzer today.

MrBug708 09-30-2018 08:44 AM

Yay, I think a tiebreaker game is in LA. Let's hope the next game is Thursday

MizzouRah 09-30-2018 08:59 AM

Chicago and LA hold the home field in tiebreakers.

Really bummed the Cardinals couldn't win at home, getting swept by the Brewers was the final nail for this team.

cartman 09-30-2018 06:28 PM

Hope it wasn't, but today might have been Adrian Beltre's final game. He got a standing O from the crowd in Seattle.

Ryche 09-30-2018 06:44 PM

Joe Mauer caught one pitch in the 9th for what is likely his curtain call. Perfect send off.

Go Rockies tomorrow, like their chances of Marquez starts.

JonInMiddleGA 09-30-2018 06:49 PM

Well here's a statistical quirk for you
From espn.com

Quote:

Oakland Athletics slugger Khris Davis hit the most home runs in the majors with 48, and more remarkably, finished with a .247 batting average for the fourth year in a row.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, no player in MLB history has had the same batting average rounded to three decimal places in four consecutive seasons, with a minimum of 10 at-bats each year.

The A's took Davis out for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning Sunday, ensuring that he would match the batting average again this season.

Atocep 09-30-2018 07:17 PM

Relevant to Khris Davis:

MrBug708 10-02-2018 11:16 PM

Um, interference?

Between that play and the double play, why not cancel the game and just hand the game to the Cubs.

Coffee Warlord 10-02-2018 11:18 PM

He's just being friendly!

MrBug708 10-02-2018 11:21 PM

TO be fair, the Rockies deserve to lose for taking out Blackmon

Logan 10-02-2018 11:55 PM

Bet the Cubs were glad they signed up for that single by Story.

Haha yeah I heard that stupid color comment too. Man modern sports broadcasting in all the major sports is pretty piss poor. I miss the likes of Scully, Madden, Keith Jackson, Merlin Olson, Enberg, Joe Garciola, etc

stevew 10-03-2018 12:43 AM

It's amazing that Khris Davis is now the good Chris Davis.

MrBug708 10-03-2018 08:29 AM

Watching last night certainly made me appreciate the depth the Dodgers have on their 25 man roster. Freeland has basically been unhittable against left handers in the 2nd half, and Maddon was almost forced to start Rizzo and Murphy, and predictably they went 0-6 and made 7 outs.

tarcone 10-04-2018 09:59 PM

Matt Carpenter only 10th player in history to not ground into a DP in a season.

Amazing.

MrBug708 10-05-2018 11:08 PM

Nice to see a performance like that from Kershaw

lungs 10-07-2018 09:56 PM

Loving this run by my Brew Crew. That pitching staff was brilliant against Colorado. Counsell definitely isn't stuck on old thinking.

I don't think that their pitching staff is bad, but be careful looking too far into that performance. Colorado was AWFUL at the plate this year.

What? .....They aren't the Red Sox, Astros or Yankees offense but they were the second highest scoring team in the NL and 6th in the major leagues.

Take a look at their road production, though. They were the #2 offense in the NL predominantly because of Coors Field.

Yeah, I don't necessarily think holding down the Rockies' offense is some huge accomplishment but the way Counsell has deployed his pitchers is to my liking. No starters going through the lineup for a third time while having a good enough bullpen to do that with guys that go multiple innings. Especially when you don't have a Clayton Kershaw and your ace is Jhoulys Chacin.

It's not a new concept, but I'm so happy I have a manager that isn't stuck on playing the game the way it was when he was playing.

BishopMVP 10-08-2018 10:20 PM

Christian who? Brock Holt! with the first postseason cycle in history haha.

Yeah, using advanced stats that account for Park Effects, they were the 28th best offense in the league.

Ah

Atocep 10-09-2018 08:40 PM

So we now have #timegate in the Yankees/Red Sox series. Some solid circumstantial evidence that Aaron Boone gave the Yankees the incorrect start time for the game last night. It looks like he may have mixed the 8:07 start time tonight with the 7:40 start time last night.

They used the Phone a Friend (A-Rod) option.

Honestly the really damning piece of evidence is Gardner wearing sneakers in CF 1st inning, though I haven't actually seen the footage of that.

BishopMVP 10-09-2018 11:06 PM

Sox hold on to win (great play by Nunez & Pearce, not exactly the best corner defenders in MLB), so it doesn't matter, but I think Cora made a mistake with Sale. With his injury history & the 6 week DL stint & the fact he hasn't pitched 6+ IP since July 11 I would not have been confident in him if he had to start Thursday - if he brought him in to pitch the 8th, and he dominated the 8th like he dominated his 5 innings Game 1, just keep him in - Kimbrel inspires no confidence. (Though at least Price would be available as a 2 inning reliever in Game 5 which is the only role he should ever have in October!)

Astros series should be a war - Sox are much better vs RHP's at least. If we do win, I'm not sure if we'll be the first team to beat 2 100 win teams to make it to the World Series, or just the first top seed to do so, but I think it's more fun to do that than some 87 game winner who got hot at the right time!

This is the only season in the wild card era with three 100-win teams from the same league, so by default the Sox would be the first top seed to do it.

The Twins bumped off the A's in 2002, so the Angels didn't get to attempt the feat in their World Championship year.

S'far as I can tell, this season and that 2002 season are the only seasons in the wild card era with even *two* 100-win teams in the same league.

I'm also intrigued by Severino starting to warm up at 7:32 pm for a 7:40 pm game.

Logan 10-10-2018 05:02 AM

All things considered, I thought Hernandez was pretty solid behind the plate tonight, especially when everyone was ready to pounce on him after his performance the night before. Only call that seemed egregious was the called 3rd strike on Benintendi.

Ksyrup 10-12-2018 12:46 PM

Good thing Colorado got eliminated. Monday's low is forecast for 11, which is 9 degrees below the record low for that day. Sunday's high temp may end up below the record low for that day in Denver, too.

EagleFan 10-13-2018 05:33 PM

I don't get why players slide into 1st. It has been proven many times over that it is quicker to run through the bag. Especially since he slid feet first, that's not only going to slow you down but can be an easy way to break an ankle.

PilotMan 10-13-2018 09:50 PM

Whew. A win for the good guys on the road. Thank goodness.

JonInMiddleGA 10-16-2018 12:45 AM

So Enrique Hernandez doesn't like the fan's reaction to the postseason choke job by Grandal. Well ain't that just too bad.

1) Nobody gives two shits what you think Kike, so zip it.

2) When you're 2/16 in the post season yourself -- and have had one good playoff series in your whole career -- it's probably a better idea to not attract extra attention. Grandal ain't the only guy in need of replacement in this lineup.

Logan 10-16-2018 10:43 AM

If all this drives down his price where he becomes affordable to the Wilpons I'll be very happy.

PilotMan 10-16-2018 12:13 PM

Grandal is playing like a guy who really sucks.

3.3 WAR and 121 OPS+

He isn't an MVP, but he had a good year offensively.

MrBug708 10-16-2018 05:39 PM

Yay, he will get paid by a team in the east this off-season.

kingfc22 10-17-2018 12:20 AM

Grow up Machado. What a d-bag.

MrBug708 10-17-2018 12:23 AM

Obviously doesn't want to be a Dodger much longer

BishopMVP 10-17-2018 12:43 AM

Not watching, what happened tonight? All I see googling is his comments that seem like an Onion article Manny Machado warns Yankees and everyone: I don’t hustle

Basically he kicked the 1B's ankle as he's thrown out on a play at first. On the heels of the stuff at second base, what, yesterday? Not a great look.

Normal angle, not great, but meh... from the down line the angle WTF that's some shady bullshit.

Chief Rum 10-17-2018 04:20 AM

Machado's worst offense was wearing those terrible cornrows in his hair. Not everyone should cornrow their hair.

lungs 10-17-2018 08:49 AM

Damn. I stayed up until 2:00 AM watching that.

At least my Crew has Wade Miley to face off against Kershaw today! (I can't believe I'm not saying that sarcastically)

PilotMan 10-17-2018 06:23 PM

Look, a strike is a strike, just make sure it's a strike for both teams. gzuz.

MrBug708 10-17-2018 06:50 PM

The umps have been inconsistent in most of this series. That being said, it was strike 2, not ball 4 on Kershaw
