Werewolf CLX - Atlantic City - GAME OVER

This game is a sequel to my Vegas game:

Werewolf CXXV - Vegas, Baby - VILLAGERS WIN - Front Office Football Central

The mechanics are, hopefully, slightly improved but will be very familiar to those who played or read the past game. Enjoy1

Quote:

It wasn't pretty, but the residents of Las Vegas, Nevada managed to drive the mob out of their city. Two warring families did their best to get their fingers into the biggest, dirtiest pile of cash in the country. But it turns out in Vegas they prefer their own brand of sleaze.

Vegas isn't the only place, however, that a crooked guy can make a living. Members of the Lupino and Vampiri families--those that survived the gang war at least--eventually finished their sentences and headed East for greener pastures. It was only natural they ended up in Atlantic City. Seeing how much illicit money was changing hands, and just dying to be diverted, they joined forces in an attempt to make the second most crooked city in the country theirs.

Some guys aren't wise enough to learn from their mistakes. Of course Atlantic City has its own mob. They've been happily screwing over gamblers and collecting extortion money for decades. The Vegas family is going to have to go through them if they want a piece of the action.

But let's not forget the noble residents of Atlantic City. Well, maybe not noble, but they would just as rather throw their money away on dice, women and booze without threat of a pair of brass knuckles. Atlantic City's never going become the sensation it could be with the mob holding it down. It's time to clean up this city. And make a few bucks while doing it.

THE BASICS
  • Don't quote any PMs directly in thread
  • Don't talk about the game outside of the thread
  • Don't edit your posts during the game
  • Vote by writing VOTE NAME in bold in your post on its own line
  • Unvote by writing UNVOTE NAME in bold on its own line
  • Nightfall votes will be accepted but will have to be unanimous, and once entered your vote may not be changed.
  • Tie votes will be settled by an unknown betting mechanic.

THE START
  • Villagers receive the message: "You are a resident of Atlantic City. Your goal is to rid the city of mafia members. You begin the game with $1,000. Happy gambling!"

ROLES

The game will consist of villagers, and two separate groups of mafia. For the most part, villagers and wolves will be vanilla only, with services (see below) replacing the abilities of typical Werewolf roles.

Each mafia family may communicate and coordinate by PM. However the two families will not know the identities of the other family, nor be able to communicate with them. Besides eliminating the village, the goal of each family will be to eliminate the other either through death or by giving them an offer they cannot refuse. Mafia families will need to bid on services just as the village does, including the ability to make night kills. The mafias have the bonus of being able to transfer money among themselves.

There may be some hidden roles or hidden victory conditions in the game.

VOTING TO LYNCH

As in any Werewolf game the group will vote for a lynch each day. The leading vote getter will be lynched, and role and allegiance revealed upon death. Deadline for voting will be 9 pm EST, and any votes marked 9:00 will not be counted. A tie will be resolved by unknown means.

BETTING ON LYNCHES

Unlike most games, each night every player will send a private message to the moderator with their guess as to who will be lynched the next day. Everyone who bets on the correct player will split the prize money awarded. If they choose incorrectly they will not lose any money. This is the fundamental way to earn money in this game, for bidding on services (see below).

You do not need to specify any amount of money in your bet, you simply give me a name.

A player may bet on a spread of one or more players in the game who they think may be lynched the next day. The more players they bet on, the smaller their prize will be if they win. If Player A bets that the person lynched will be either Player X, Y or Z, and Player Z is the actual person lynched, they will get one-third of the prize money that a player who bid on Z alone would earn.

Bets are due by the dawn deadline, 9 am EST.

BIDDING ON SERVICES

Services will be offered each day after the dawn deadline. The services offered each day will vary, but will often include those who can scan like a seer, kill like a wolf, protect like a bodyguard, etc. The exact details of their service will be given only to those who hire them.

Each day each player will have the opportunity to spend their money by bidding on these services in Atlantic City. The player who bids highest will gain the use of that power that night. Players may only bid on one service per day. A player can bid any amount of money (though their bid will be capped at how much money they actually have after deadline).

Some services will be listed as Black-market Services. Any player may bid on and win these services. However, it is risky for villagers to get involved with these sort of people. There is a cumulative danger that players who contract through the black-market will find themselves indebted to the mob.

Bids are due by the dusk deadline, 9 pm EST. A player will be notified of their winning bid after the dusk deadline and they will have until the dawn deadline (9 am EST) to submit orders for the service hired (for example send in a scan target). Players may send in conditional orders if they are unsure they'll be around to send in orders. A player has an option to not use the service hired, and if so no one will be able to use it.

VICTORY CONDITIONS

The village wins when all mafia members are out of the game. Each mafia family wins a major victory if their family reaches a 1:1 ratio with the rest of the players (whether those are villagers or members of the other family). They earn a minor victory if the other mafia family is removed from play.

You may now sign up.

Narcizo 04-14-2013 02:23 PM

I'm starting a new job tomorrow so I'll add the standard Hoops clause here but I'll try to be as involved as time allows. ie In.

Narcizo 04-14-2013 02:25 PM

I liked the two wolf-team dynamic in The Cube (I think it was called) so that's interesting. The bidding thing is kind of like what I remember from Rome, so that's also interesting. Interesting, interesting, interesting.

murrayyyyy 04-14-2013 03:18 PM

Gambling... guess that means I have to play although 6 am bets... crap...

Danny 04-14-2013 03:32 PM

In, First

If you're referring to my old game, it was "Enter The Cubicle." :)

Yes, I had fun designing that one with two wolf teams. It played out pretty well.

Chief Rum 04-14-2013 03:36 PM

In.

I am working a ton right now, so my participation will probably come in spurts of sporadic activity, but that has been good enough in the past.

I think most people sent in their bets around the night deadline. Usually not too much activity over night to make you change your mind.

Coffee Warlord 04-14-2013 05:06 PM

Why. Not.

Lathum 04-14-2013 05:11 PM

Sounds fun but am out for a while. Wife is due in 3 weeks so it is a busy time.

JAG 04-14-2013 05:55 PM

The first Vegas game was one of my favorites of all time, maybe my favorite actual WW game (not counting Dungeons). So I'm in, but may not be at my usual activity level.

JAG 04-14-2013 06:12 PM

I hope Tyketime will play.

fontisian 04-14-2013 06:56 PM

In.

Autumn 04-15-2013 07:26 AM

I sent a message to a few of the guys from Vegas who I haven't seen around lately, like tyke.

britrock88 04-15-2013 10:57 AM

What are you thinking for a start date? (Did I miss that in-thread?)

Autumn 04-15-2013 11:09 AM

Basically whenever I have enough signups. We had about 20 in the original game and I would love to get that again. Hopefully we can start in a day or so.

Zinto 04-15-2013 12:08 PM

I am in!

mauchow 04-15-2013 12:54 PM

I'll help get the number up.

I'm just getting back to work today after ten days so I'm a little busier right now. Hopefully cools down in a few days.

britrock88 04-15-2013 01:13 PM

Alright, throw me in.

bulletsponge 04-15-2013 06:45 PM

im busy this week, but if it still hasnt started by saturday ill sign up then

Danny 04-16-2013 07:27 PM

I'll message Darth and see if I can get him to join

Danny 04-16-2013 07:28 PM

In general though all the off topic drama sure isnt going to help WW. We already lost CrimsonFox and I think Chubby might have been boxed?

britrock88 04-16-2013 08:53 PM

Chubby's boxed, CF is still boxed for another couple weeks.

Danny 04-16-2013 09:27 PM

You can sign up dsrth he said he will play

Darth Vilus 04-17-2013 02:43 AM

Ill join

path12 04-17-2013 11:51 AM

I hesitate to sign up because I don't know how much time I'm going to have over the next week or so, but realize how frustrating it is to not get enough players.

Dilemma.

The Jackal 04-17-2013 09:14 PM

Screw it, I'll make it work somehow. Caveats about availability, etc.

Autumn 04-18-2013 08:40 AM

I thought we were on a roll here, this is a bummer. I've sent out messages to people from last big game, and from the last Vegas game. But if you can think of anyone to bug, bug them please. This really should be a big game.

JAG 04-18-2013 11:10 AM

Agreed on the bummer. If you're reading this and aren't joined up, you should join. It's a really fun rule set and I like the look of the visible tweaks (and I'm sure Autumn has more behind the scenes).

Danny 04-18-2013 01:45 PM

Yeah, SIGN UP OR BE FOREVER REFERRED TO AS A PANSY

DaddyTorgo 04-18-2013 02:47 PM

Sign ups still open?

I'm in.

The OT drama is driving me to visit (at least over there) less frequently, but Autumn made an impassioned plea, so here I am.

Kind of want to be one of those "whatever happened to Poster X" kind of things in some sense.

Autumn 04-18-2013 03:14 PM

We'll show Off Topic where it's at! I really want 20 for this folks. Twenty!

Autumn 04-18-2013 03:15 PM

we won't be starting this week, so hopefully bullet can play. Need six more suckers.

path12 04-18-2013 04:46 PM

OK. In then.

Danny 04-18-2013 07:28 PM

Honestly, starting to think it might be better to take our WW playing somewhere else. Probably wouldnt work though

After the thing with CrimsonFox, I had the same thought.

Autumn 04-19-2013 09:26 AM

Well we could move en masse to Boardgame Geek

Autumn 04-19-2013 09:27 AM

Five more lucky ladies needed.

Might not be a bad idea, their system is better than ours and I spend more time there anyway.

I played there a bunch when I was first learning WW. God, that has to be 7-8 years ago now. They used to do some crazy complex games.....probably still do I guess.

Am I the only one that finds the BGG site super slow?

Autumn 04-19-2013 08:04 PM

Hoping we can get hte last few over the weekend. if not, I'll revise the setup a bit to make it work for a Monday start.

InBlue 04-20-2013 09:39 PM

I would like to join.

fontisian 04-20-2013 09:46 PM

Blue! <3

Autumn 04-21-2013 09:14 AM

Signups are still open. I will send out roles tonight and Monday will be a Day Zero (because I want to make sure everyone remembers there's a game before bets are due).

bulletsponge 04-21-2013 10:23 AM

yea ill join too
