Nice column. I've found myself pondering the Fermi Paradox a lot recently (stemming from some TED talks on the subject). Alas, it's hard for me to see how we don't destroy ourselves intentionally or accidentally in the next century or two. Hell, we're so good at making enemies that we are starting to view our own countrymen as hated opponents, rather than friends who agree on more topics than they disagree on.
