NFL 2020 Season Thread

Well its going to be a weird one for sure, but the NFL season starts tonight. So how are you feeling about "your" team this season? Coming into the off-season, I was pretty down on my beloved Cards, but the Hopkins trade and their moves to shore up the defense have my hopes a little higher. Not sure they climb out of last place in the NFC West still, but I give them more of a chance to do so now. I could see them hit .500 depending on how healthy they stay.

molson 09-10-2020 12:02 PM

The Patriots will win somewhere between 3 and 12 games.

Kodos 09-10-2020 12:13 PM

It's too bad we don't get Pats vs. Bucs. That'd be fun!

molson 09-10-2020 12:14 PM

It's still funny to see "Washington Football Team" on all of the pre-season articles and stuff.

Pretty much...I'd narrow it up a little to between 5 and 11 wins. The transition year plus the tough schedule (on paper) looks ominous.

If I bet on sports, Kyler at +2500 to win MVP would be some juicy longshot odds.

He's got talent, a good coach, and a team around him.

stevew 09-10-2020 12:35 PM

seems crazy how it took forever for Clowney to sign. And then 2 days later or something Von Miller gets hurt. The Broncos have 25million in cap space

As much as I want to believe that, I need to see it on the field first before I buy my Kyler jersey. Should be a very good test for them against SF this week.

spleen1015 09-10-2020 01:55 PM

I didn't realize this weekend was the start of the NFL season until Monday. Then, I realized this morning that there was a game tonight.

I think the Colts will get back to their division winning ways. Tennessee is looking kind of good, but I think Tannehill is a one hit wonder.

albionmoonlight 09-10-2020 02:11 PM

Something I didn't realize:

Remember Y2K? Remember how long ago that feels?

Brady and Brees were playing football against each other before Y2K.

(Purdue vs. Michigan, but still. Those dudes are *OLD*)

stevew 09-10-2020 02:15 PM

first year since 1997 that a Manning is not a QB in the league.

As a long-suffering Lions fan I am considering the 60-1 odds on a Lions Super Bowl this year, but based entirely on covid chaos. Seems like this kind of unprecedented season makes it more of a toss up and all the longshots probably have better chances than their odds.

Damn! Also worth noting that Archie Manning played from 1971-1984, so there have only been 13 Manning-less years in my lifetime.

sabotai 09-10-2020 02:35 PM

And in several years, the 3rd generation of Mannings will start appearing in the league.

MizzouRah 09-10-2020 03:41 PM

Go Chiefs and any team that plays the Patriots or Rams.

Cooper named his son Archie. I think the family could have done us a solid and have Eli name his son Peyton (instead of Charlie) and Peyton name his sons Cooper and Eli.

Then when they all get to the NFL, we could reincarnate the whole family in one generation.

Why doesn't anyone ever think big picture?

ETA: It probably would have made more sense if I quoted sobotai's quote instead. So:

Crusader Kings 3 mod with the House of Manning?

For every sports fan the day will come they find out all the players in their favorite sports are younger than them. As I didn't realize that Drew Brees actually is part of that group of older guys than me as well, I'm feeling a little bit less old today. Rock on.

Transition year to what’s?or who?

thesloppy 09-10-2020 07:07 PM

So, ummmm am I the only person the feels super awkward listening to Mike Tirico talk about BLM and such?

kingfc22 09-10-2020 07:32 PM

Glad to see the bigots booing a show of unity in Kansas City made their voice heard.

To nobody’s surprise, it was and never will be about the flag or the troops.

albionmoonlight 09-10-2020 08:20 PM

David Johnson being good again would be a huge boon for the Texans. It didn't even occur to me that he was anything other than flotsam in that trade.

Yeah happy to see him score. My beloved Cards gave up on him far too soon I think.

Same.

Kodos 09-10-2020 08:52 PM

It’s so nice to have football. I really didn’t think there would be a season. Don’t know if it’s a good idea, but will enjoy it.

stevew 09-10-2020 08:54 PM

Andy Reid needs windshield wipers for that face shield.

albionmoonlight 09-10-2020 09:12 PM

Kansas City is kind of unfair.

Scarecrow 09-10-2020 09:14 PM

CEH might be a good pick for the Chiefs...

bhlloy 09-10-2020 09:46 PM

So you are suggesting that trading one of the top 3 receivers in the league in his prime doesn’t make your offense better?

thesloppy 09-10-2020 10:10 PM

This game got stank in the second half. The stream I was watching accidentally switched over to Seinfeld for a couple minutes and when he switched back to the game stream everybody in the chat complained.

Drake 09-10-2020 10:30 PM

It could have been the worst football game in the history of the sport and I still would have loved every second of it, I think.

thesloppy 09-10-2020 10:49 PM

Fair!

stevew 09-10-2020 10:55 PM

I feel like tackling CEH would be painful

Vince, Pt. II 09-11-2020 09:58 AM

Hard to tell where the 49ers end up this year. They are due some positive injury regression (more games lost to injury last year than any team), but they seemed to overachieve a little last year and lost one of the biggest pieces of their defense in Buckner. That being said, there aren't many "elite" teams in the NFC this year; just the 49ers and the Saints, it seems like.

Minnesota is much worse on paper, Green Bay didn't seem to get any better and were already flawed, and Seattle had an insane overachievement relative to their point differential. Tampa is obviously a wildcard with Brady, but I don't think they challenge the Saints. Arizona is starting to look scary - especially with Hopkins now - but again, they have a long way to go. Dallas could maybe take the next step, and their division is weak as hell...but they simply don't scare me.

Overall I think the 49ers are worse than last year, but shouldn't take too much of a step back. They should be in the playoffs.

In my ideal world, the Pats and Bucs both go 3-13, finally proving that it wasn't Belichick or Brady that made the other, but that they were just a brilliant Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of tandem goodness.*

But I'd want the Bucs to win the tie-breaker for the #1 pick because I'd rather see Trevor Lawrence go to Tampa and start his own legend rather than be another star in Belichick's crown.

[*] Make no mistake here. I hate the Patriots. But I also have to give them their due.

That all sounds sweet. Except in my dream, there is another team that goes 1-15 and gets the first pick. Tampa ends up with a bust at 2.

albionmoonlight 09-12-2020 11:49 AM

Saints and Kamara agree to extension.

5 yrs/$75 million. $34.3 in guarantees.

I'm firmly in the "paying RBs does not make sense" camp.

But teams keep doing it, so I might be missing something.

Might just be psychologically impossible to let a great player walk, even if it is the long-term smart thing to do.

Thomkal 09-13-2020 09:00 AM

Good luck to everybody's team this season. (well maybe not to the other NFC West teams :)

Right back at everyone but you 😁

Honestly pretty intrigued by Arizona, and really wish they weren't a division rival.

The NFC West is just going to be a meat grinder, should make for an interesting playoff race.

cuervo72 09-13-2020 10:44 AM

Wait, smilies can be italicized??

Coffee Warlord 09-13-2020 12:18 PM

Trubisky back into regular form fast. Off target, off target, off target.

😁

But that's getting way off topic. :D

albionmoonlight 09-13-2020 12:27 PM

I’m watching Bills/Jets.

Josh Allen looking good.

However bad you thought the Jets were going to be this year, I think they are actually going to be worse.

Ryche 09-13-2020 12:30 PM

Damn, my local bar where I watch Vikings games doesn't have Sunday Ticket this year. Not surprising and I'm sure many bars will be dropping it this year.

Atocep 09-13-2020 12:49 PM

Jamie Collins already has dumbest penalty of the year locked up.

thesloppy 09-13-2020 12:54 PM

Bizarre. Lions in midseason trash form already.

Coffee Warlord 09-13-2020 01:30 PM

Foles starts when?

thesloppy 09-13-2020 01:35 PM

The Bears mangled the end of that half, getting the ball at their own 12 with :55 and somehow only using 14 seconds.
