$15 to Create a Federal Budget

Some pretty thought-provoking stuff here. A lot of tough decisions to be made.

QFT. Hope you could shift a little from HC to welfare over time, as the needs of the safety net change with a bit 'o' cost control...

Pretty much my immediate reaction, too.

For health care and education we'll take over your country and you can have our welfare sponges.

Yeah I was going to post something similar. $15 this year, projected to be $1000 in fifty years so why not spend the $1000 right now?

But wouldn't that eventually cause problems?

Nah, I'll just print more money

What's a federal budget?

NobodyHere 06-05-2014 01:07 AM

It's that thing the party out of power likes to complain about.

gstelmack 06-05-2014 06:54 AM

Defense 5 <- the primary constitutional mandate for our federal government
Health Care 3 <- get costs down by removing inefficiency in paying folks
Education 1 <- federal government should get out of this mostly
Creating Jobs 0 <- what does this mean anyway?
Social Security 2 <- make it really just a safety net
Welfare 2 <- make it really just a safety net
Other 2 <- interstate commerce, another constitutional mandate, right?

Overall I'd hope the budget is smaller than what it is. I might have Defense at 5, but I think it should shrink from it's current number

I'd prefer they get out of education for the most part. I think the thought that the government throwing more money at education is going to fix the problem is wrong. Tons of friends and family who are teachers. Some in very poor schools. I've talked to them about spending tons of times and most of them say while the budget is a major problem, they would put red tape BS and the importance of education in the home much higher on the list. Get the government out of it.

I would probably drop education to 1, up defense 2 and other 2. (Other is a pretty massive list of things and can be used strategically to help specific needs, I'd rather have that there)
