Hmmm....I don't know if the passages mean much of anything.

Ditto - I may lean toward clap's line of thinking!

Strictly speaking about Merchant....Shylock was a Jew, and in the days of Shakespeare, Jews and Christians essentially practiced segregation.

Perhaps RendeR selected this passage to identify himself as something other than the rest of us?

She sings? I thought she was just Ellen's arm candy...

Farrah Whitworth-Rahn 08-05-2008 04:23 PM

I must noodle on this. And I want to see what else RendeR does.

That's right. I thought Shylock was anti-semitic, but it's the play as a whole that has been criticized for that by virtue of the portrayal of Shylock.

I think at this point I'm leaning towards "Render and/or Jackal are just messing with us".

As for being different, it appears we all have abilities and are slightly different creatures in our own right.

mccollins 08-05-2008 04:25 PM

Aight, I'm outta here - see y'all sometime closer to deadline.

a man who hath not the life of a man; but to counterfeit dying,
when a man thereby liveth, is to be no counterfeit, but the true
and perfect image of life indeed. The better part of valor is
discretion, in the which better part I have sav'd my life."

Aha!

A play I have not read. King Henry the IV.

Ok, still annoying.

Taming of the Shrew?? I'm trying not to use Google and look them up now.

I think it's Shrew. Maybe Comedy of Errors?

RendeR 08-05-2008 05:09 PM

"One bat, Two bat, Green bat, black Bat, Something's amiss, I'll guarentee that."

Farrah Whitworth-Rahn 08-05-2008 05:15 PM

Dr. Seuss?

Tyrith 08-05-2008 05:17 PM

Alright, I stated my reasons for this vote prior - Render is at least interesting, probably something useful for such a severe downside. DT and ntn I haven't gotten to play with in a long while, and Pass I got to play with a lot in the last game and some in Spawn - sorry man, diversity of experience.

More or less.

Apologies for lack of participation so far. My work network has been down most of the last two days -- it's sort of working in spots right now but it's so slow I don't think I'll get caught up until later tonight.

RendeR 08-05-2008 05:33 PM

" But come—
Here, as before, never, so help you mercy,
How strange or odd some'er I bear myself—
As I perchance hereafter shall think meet
To put an antic disposition on—
That you, at such times seeing me, never shall,
With arms encumb'red thus, or this headshake,
Or by pronouncing of some doubtful phrase,
As "Well, well, we know," or "We could, and if we would,"
Or "If we list to speak," or "There be, and if they might,"
Or such ambiguous giving out, to note
That you know aught of me—this do swear,
So grace and mercy at your most need help you."

RendeR 08-05-2008 05:39 PM

"Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy."

Farrah Whitworth-Rahn 08-05-2008 05:44 PM

Still irritating.

Vote RendeR

And just an FYI - the deadline is 7pm my time. That's right in the middle of dinner so I may not be around for it tonight.

Barkeep49 08-05-2008 06:12 PM

Qwik used to role play all the time, and I enjoyed it. KWhit had his whole thing in the cruise game and was good. I did a whole routine, slightly less erudite than what RendeR has done, and was a good guy. Seemingly meaningless, I still think it's going to make it hard to pin anything to him. I will point out that in both cases the role play went far beyond what was required.

[begin scooby-doo voice]
But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona.

Roilà! In Riew, a humble Raudevillian Reteran, cast Ricariously as both victim and Rillain by the Ricissitudes of Fate. This Risage, no mere Reneer of Ranity, is a Restige of the Rox populi, now Racant, Ranished. However, this Ralorous Risitation of a by-gone Rexation, stands RiRified and has Rowed to Ranquish these Renal and Rirulent Rermin Ran-guarding Rice and Rouchsafing the Riolently Ricious and Roracious Riolation of Rolition.
The only Rerdict is Rengeance; a Rendetta, held as a Rotive, not in Rain, for the Ralue and Reracity of such shall one day Rindicate the Rigilant and the Rirtuous.

Rerily, this Richyssoise of Rerbiage Reers most Rerbose, so let me simply add that it's my Rery good honor to meet you and you may call me RendeR.

I think it obfuscates meaning from in posts.

The question is, what meaning is there to be obfuscated from today?

RendeR 08-05-2008 06:54 PM

thine infernal deprecation of mine verbiage ignores the hypothisis that meaning is gleaned from the anarchy of mine thoughts.

Guys, have we given any thought to the fact that RendeR is the minotaur and thus any votes on him aren't going to matter (he can't be lynched)? I can't see another play that would bring this type of attention.

DaddyTorgo 08-05-2008 07:34 PM
