Rock and Roll Nominations are out!
I always get excited this time o year when I see the new class of nominees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Some interesting choices!
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Chic Green Day Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Kraftwerk The Marvelettes N.W.A. Nine Inch Nails Lou Reed The Smiths The Spinners Sting Stevie Ray Vaughan War Bill Withers |
Green Day? Seriously. Gross.
Lou Reed, NIN, The Smiths and SRV, please. |
SRV, Kraftwerk, Lou Reed and NWA
|
If I am choosing 6 (thats how many performers got in last year.)
In no particular order: Bill Withers The Spinners SRV Joan Jett The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Sting |
Deep Purple, Moody Blues, Journey, and Steve Miller Band
oh, wait... Lou Reed, The Smiths, Stevie Ray, and The Marvelettes (damn, I hate the R&RHoF) |
I still can't believe that they haven;t embraced either/or Depeche Mode or Joy Division/New Order.
Kraftwerk is the first time they've even acknowledged electronic based music. They need to move on that, since popular music is sounding increasingly like Gary Numan and Erasure, and less like Joan Jett and Van Halen. |
Jesus, how is Lou Reed not in already
|
Utterly asinine list. As usual.
|
Is this Sting's first year somehow? For some reason I'd have assumed he was in long ago.
|
Lou Reed and Sting are already in as members of The Velvet Underground and The Police. These nominations are for their solo acts.
|
Lol at what snobs some of you are. Green day are easily in.

very few in that list doesn't deserve to be in.
I agree Green day is almost a guarantee in... I think Lou reed is almost definitely in too. I don't think Paul Butterfield will make it, but you gotta love Born in Chicago! |
Green Day and SRV are the only two on there I'd feel strongly about.
If you're going to start honoring rap groups (different debate), you have to put NWA in. +1 for Joy Division/New Order inclusion as well |

Likewise (probably even more so) with electronic music and Kraftwerk. |
Kraftwerk and The Velvet Underground share the same inverted commercial success/musical influence relationship.
|
Here's the list that will be inducted:
Lou Reed Green Day Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Bill Withers Paul Butterfield Blues Band Green Day, Lou Reed Enter Rock and Roll Hall of Fame | Rolling Stone |
Is there a hip hop HOF?
Someone should open one in Brooklyn if not. |
One article I read had NIN second with the most votes and yet didn't get in.
