Screen names?
curious... Where do you people come up with these names?
Some of em are pretty odd! Passacaglia? Mr Wednesday? Lathum? Just curious :) |
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and wanted a So.Calish type of name and since the Dodgers are there and I'm female, I chose Dodgerchick.
I'm not a big fan although I might jump on the bandwagon this season. |
There is an extremely long and boring story to how I got mine that you probably aren't interested in.
|
I'm just anticipating what will come when I pass.

|
a long and boring story
i'm sure it has to do with my laziness... |
I prefer to be shrouded in mystery.
|
F you.
Thats what my name stand for. Mind your own buisness Sally. |
mine stands for my eternal love of trivia and the name I play under in the ntn system......Oh and maybe a bit for the bestest college ever! Wake Forest University. HOme of the Demon Deacons!

I figured yours had something to do with the Steely Dan. Especially since you're from Alabama. |
Mine has to do with my deep and profound love for all things condiment.

Mr. Wednesday comes from the Neil Gaiman novel American Gods. Mr. Wednesday is one of the characters in it. I don't feel a particular affinity for the character or feel like I resemble him in any way, I just think it's a really cool name.

We have a cat named Rolie Polie Olie; after a cute Disney show my son watched when he was a toddler, the cat was his 3rd b'day present so he got to name her. Rolie Polie Olie was shortened into Olie, which then morphed into Oliegirl b/c she is a female cat.
For the record, it's a long "O", not "ollie" like the skating trick. :) |
I thought it was the long o when I read the storie. It just fits better with Roly poly.
|
A passacaglia is a medieval style of music and dance -- I took the name from a song by Joe Jackson, and used it for a MUD character back in the day (just because I thought it sounded like a cool name), and have stuck with it here (and a couple other forums) ever since.
|
Also, being a wolf and getting people's names and email addresses has made me realize where a lot of your screen names come from.

I remember that at bw3 he explained it, and I remember the 49 part, but the Barkeep part escapes me. |
when I first started playing online games and needed a screen name, i wanted something that would be easy for Lathum to find when we logged into the same servers, and we were both in the middle of reading The Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter Hamilton...Saldana is the last name of one of the interstellar families in the story, so I went with that.
(his derivation is similar, but he spelled the characters name wrong, and never bothered to fix it) |

RendeR comes originally from a really short sci-fi novel about a psychiatrist who uses a dream manipulation device to work with his patients. John RendeR.
I really liked the name and the first time I ever played D&D I named my Ranger character after him "RendeR" I used two capital R's because he was a bit of a quirky character in the games. I played that same character or probably 10 years or so. Then when I discovered the interwebs I needed a screen name to log into the college system so I chose RendeR and I've used it ever since. It really is my alter ego become my own identity in a way. |
