The Amazing Race 2 - (Early Signups)

Taking Early Signups as I prepare the legs (will also give me an idea about how many legs to go with). Will try to kick this off after the next game if that is good with everyone?

More to come...

Race Rules

Deadline: 9 PM EST

Win condition: Be the first team to arrive at the final finish line.

Elimination: Teams that are eliminated from the Race will still be in the werewolf portion of the game until they are eliminated from that portion as well.

Skills

Travel: Each of the travel stages can be influenced by this value.

Physical: Any physical challenges can be influenced by this value.

Intelligence: Any challenges that require mental acuity can be influenced by this value.

Luck: Everyone needs a little luck, this can come into play at any point in the race (and will be noted in the write up)

Stamina: Better value, better endurance.

Bonus Points - Each player will have 5 additional bonus points to distribute to their skills prior to the start of the race. They lose these skill points when "eliminated" from the werewolf portion of the game.

Effort - Each player will have 10 effort points that they can use throughout the race. They may choose to use the value to help themselves or to hinder another team. Once a player has been eliminated from the werewolf portion of the game the player will lose the remainder of their effort points. PM me directly to use the points. It will not be known who used points or how many.

Rewards - Winning a leg will earn the players on that team a reward in the werewolf portion of the game. The reward will be announced at the start of each leg, so the reward can be used for the werewolf phase that day. Rewards may include, bonus vote, duke ability, immunity from lynch, scan ability, etc...

Details - The devil is in the details. While this will not affect the game as much as the first time, teams that add more details in their instruction PM will be given a bonus point in a random skill for that leg. The 2 teams with the best details will be given that award.

EagleFan 04-19-2015 03:44 PM

Werewolf Rules

Deadline: 10 PM EST

Lynch Vote: A lynch vote will be made daily (unless otherwise specified). The player who received the most votes will be voted out of the werewolf game and the player's role and allegiance will be revealed. If the player is still in the race portion of the game the player may continue to post, play AND VOTE. The player will lose any bonus points awarded and be returned to the player's starting value for race skills.

Wolf Post Lynch: A wolf who has been lynched but is still in the race will still retain one vote. The wolf may continue to PM their team and post in thread as long they remain alive in the race. They will no longer count towards win condition.

Villager Post Lynch: A villager who has been lynched but is still in the race will still retain a vote but it will count as 1/2 a vote. The player may continue to post in thread. They no longer count towards the win condition

EagleFan 04-19-2015 03:44 PM

Werewolf Roles

Village Roles

Seer - Can scan one person a night to find if the player is a wolf. Can self scan (if a bodyguard can self protect a seer should be allowed to self scan).

Bodyguard - Can protect one person each night.

Duke - Once during the game can change the result of the lynch vote.

Wolf Roles

Brutal - Will take another player with him (or her) when he (or she) "dies".

Cunning - Will scan as a non wolf.

Other Roles

Cultist - Wins with the wolves but will not have PM rights with the wolves.

Looking for more players . With some of the burnout going around I am going to try to change up the game a bit, just trying to figure out how.

Want the games to be fun, not a stress inducing event.

mysfit 04-27-2015 04:31 PM

Well I'd like to play but I've only ever played 'vanilla' games and I am not entirely sure about the race part

if you want another warm body and can speak v-er-y- s-l-o-wl-y when I have questions about the race I'd like to play

Chief Rum 04-27-2015 05:57 PM

I'm in.

EagleFan 04-27-2015 06:09 PM

Welcome to you both/ Going to spend more time this week getting the remaining legs together in my spreadsheet.

The race portion of the game shouldn't be too taxing misfit. More than happy to answer any questions.

Welcome aboard!!

Autumn 04-28-2015 09:43 AM

Come on guys, this was a lot of fun the first time around, needmore folks!

Zinto 04-28-2015 12:39 PM

I was thinking about taking a break but you need more players so I will join.

Narcizo 04-28-2015 01:12 PM

Sorry - I really can't.

MartinD 04-28-2015 04:28 PM

I'd like to take part, but the late deadlines don't work very well for me - 2am and 3am means that I'll be asleep, and I get the feeling that it's likely to be a game where it would really help to be around at deadline...

EagleFan 04-28-2015 05:01 PM

Trying to change things up a little so it won't be as intense for everyone involved. Trying to come up with a good change to the werewolf portion so that it kind of takes a back seat to the race.

Going to spend time tonight trying to work on the balance for the changes.

britrock88 04-28-2015 10:21 PM

Wondering if a full week off might help...

britrock88 04-28-2015 10:21 PM

(I'm in whenever.)

EagleFan 04-28-2015 10:49 PM

Thinking of starting either Monday or the following Monday. What works best for everyone?

Have the first three legs pretty solid and the rest still a framework. (Maybe I spend too much preparing this one but I want it to rock) Have charted out the first three legs with all the potential times so I can of course setup the normal Amazing Race bottlenecks to keep the race a little tighter than the first time around.

EagleFan 04-28-2015 11:02 PM

Added more details on the race rules.

timmae 04-29-2015 07:00 AM

Ok with any start date. Half of "Team Awesome" is ready!

I hope I'm on Team Awesomer. It's that much more awesome.

The Jackal 04-29-2015 09:13 AM

I'm fine to start whenever

britrock88 04-29-2015 09:15 AM

I think your idea to push for 20 is good, and we can start whenever that works.

cheekimonk 04-29-2015 10:00 AM

I can start whenever, but will be fully out of pocket Fri the 15th and the 16th so starting the 4th would be better if we have the choice. But, like brit, I would like to get to 20 more than anything.

MrBug708 04-29-2015 10:24 AM

Since mysfit is in...ok

timmae 04-29-2015 10:29 AM

The devil is in the details, ha! You asked for it buddy!!

mysfit 04-29-2015 01:15 PM

You mangy furball.......(Bug)

And thanks all for letting me play

cheekimonk 04-29-2015 01:19 PM

So, kinda confused. Does most points = "arriving at destination first"? I don't get the "race" mechanic unless it just hasn't been posted yet.

Hasn't been posted yet but the gist is:

Travel skill will help each of the travel sections of the race. The other skills will be called out for each challenge section of the race so higher skills in the required skill(s) will help with those sections. Additionally, a roll of the dice will add a little bit of randomness to it (though it will be minimal).

Example:

Team 1 has a travel skill of 10 and 8 for a total of 18. Team 2 has a travel skill of 6 and 7 for a total of 13.

The first part of each leg is generally traveling to an airport. I have a range for how long that will take (a minimum and a maximum). Let's say in this example the range is 0:30-1:00. Team 1 will more than likely beat Team 2 to the airport. The amount they are beaten by will depend upon a roll of the dice and if luck comes into play (determined by a roll of the dice as well).

Each leg will play out in a similar manner.

WW Amazing Race - Game Over (Moles Win & Team Reebok Wins) - Front Office Football Central

Above is a link to the first version of the game.

I have dialed back how much the details each team gives will add or subtract from them but they still play a role. I am also mapping out the legs so there will be a few bottlenecks like there is in the show now; to keep a team from being hopelessly out of it.

Can you run with 14 or should someone start another game for next week (if possible)?

EagleFan 05-08-2015 10:02 AM

Would like twenty but I'll see what this does to the balance. Another idea would be removing the team idea and making it an individual player race.

EagleFan 05-10-2015 08:05 PM

Going to try to get this going after the Monty Python game is done, or I will have to post-pone indefinitely. Have been having major headache issues and I have narrowed it down to two things. Work and being on a computer (work combines major stress with being on a computer).

Weekdays I have barely been on the computer at night as I have been coming home at the end of the day with a major headache which has limited my evening activity to pretty much having dinner and laying down in a dark room.

I try to get on here a couple times but limit it to a very short time frame. Going to se my doctor(s) to see if they can find out what is happening. Was out all day yesterday and was at an air show for most of the day. The bright sun was rough as I had a major headache when I got home and everything seemed to have a yellow tint (no clue what that was) but I noticed that it got better if I was in a dark room for a while but worse if I looked at a screen of some sort (TV not as much most likely because of the distance but computer or phone would make it noticeably worse).

cheekimonk 05-10-2015 08:19 PM

I was having trouble with headaches and stare at computers pretty extensively. Download the f.lux program. It uses the sunrise/sunset times at your location to adjust the hue and brightness of your screen appropriately. It's been awesome for me:

Autumn 05-11-2015 08:09 AM

Take care of the headaches first, EF. You don't want to be stuck having to check in on this if you're not feeling good, and this will be an intensive game on your end.

I can look into running something in the meantime if no one else is ready. I tried BGG a few more times and just am not into playing there--you guys are my crowd, so I want to keep things rolling here.

That's fair. BGG's an active/aggressive bunch. But Cassandra is great to look for games that other FOFCers are playing in. (Most of what I'm signed up for I've done either because Timmae's playing or CF is modding, for instance.)

Autumn 05-11-2015 10:05 AM

Yeah, I keep giving it a try, and I love the system and some of the rules, but I just don't enjoy the play style there, and also don't really want to invest the time to get to know all the players. I'm officially a curmudgeon!

JAG 05-11-2015 12:56 PM

Echo the get well first sentiments EF. Hope you can resolve the headaches soon.
