There is a Shakey Jake that is well known around Ann Arbor, although I have no idea why. I know this because I was walking down the street in Ann Arbor one day and some lady came up and said in a very accusatory tone "Where's Shakey Jake?!!" I, of course, said "I don't know."
But then when I went home and told someone about it, she said that her mom, a U of M grad, knew of Shakey Jake and even had a picture of him. I have since learned that many U of M grads that I know know who he is, although, like I said, I have no idea who this guy is or what he does.
Anyway, the point of all of this - I believe Jim went to Michigan. Did he know of the shakey jake in Ann Arbor?

I'm assuming he has an "Uncle Bob" as well... although I really don't want to know where "Magic Mouth" comes from.

Yep. Just imagine Huggy Bear with a shopping cart. He was/is a homeless man who lived in Ann Arbor. Always friendly, always had a smile and a hello for everyone.

He had this sort of shuffling walk, which I guess is how he got his nickname. It seemed like he was always walking up and down State Street.

He was very popular with the students. The rumor was he made hundreds of thousands in donations and owned one of the grocery stores off of campus. No idea whether that was true, but he had to be making quite a bit out there.

Most of the nicknames in the names file are just spur of the moment. Some were grabbed from the Baseball Encyclopedia. And a handful, like that one, come from stories like that.

...while doing reasearch for your next game! You finally slipped up and let us know what the game you're working one is. :D

My two best nicknames were Dill Head Ricci and He Hate Me Rodriquez.

There is somebody like this up at CMU as well. Maybe it is a requirement for state-run schools in the state ;)

Just had a guy in FOF4 named War Angel Garcia. He was a QB.

CamEdwards 10-10-2003 09:51 AM

I noticed Jim avoided discussing the nickname "Magic Mouth". Maybe it is better left alone.

Thanks Jim for the story of Shakey Jake, I have always wondered how you came up with the nicknames.

I love the fact that "He Hate Me" made it into Jim's games...

I really think that nickname is the ultimate piece of pop-culture. Just thinking of that nickname and the XFL brings a smile to my face.

:)

I guess the wife wanted to be included in the game in some capacity... ;)

I'd like to see some FOFC names sprinkled in his next game....an occasional Fritz, Jeeber, Shorty, Sachmo. A WR named Quiksand. A DE named Buccaneer. Maybe a Godzilla or Horned Frog or Frogman. Maybe a coach named Coffee Warlord. :)

That would be a bad football team.

cuervo72 10-10-2003 01:12 PM

Scooper...that's another good one. And yes it would be.

That's a good idea. Would someone be willing to put together a list and send it to me?

Cam, some questions are best left unanswered. In fact, I have no idea myself where that came from. Perhaps one of those dreaded internet hackers added it while I wasn't looking.
