She Said Yes...
Nothing like the Boston fireworks to win a girl's heart. So, any advice for the soon-to-be-wed?
Kevin |
Try to tone down your cocky and funny routine that won her heart over?

classic. congrats Celeval |
Little known rule is that you have 48 hours after the engagment to have sex with whomever you want. Hope this advice reaches you in time.
On a more serious note, congrats. If your fiancee is anything like mine, I hope you like looking at china patterns, because you will be doing more of that then you thought possible. (Hint: you know they are just plates; I know they are just plates; I even think deep down that women know that they are just plates; but me'lady still thinks that it is bad form to mention during an afternoon of looking at china patterns that they are just plates.) |

Here's what you can expect: 1. The sex is never as good as it was before you got married. Unless you're both waiting until marriage to have sex... in which case, well, that's a mighty big commitment to make without seeing if she's any good in bed or not, but, regardless, I salute your restraint. 2. If she wants kids, you might as well have them now. It never gets any easier, and you're better off having them and getting them out of the house before you're on geritol. 3. If she's going to do the "stay at home wife/mom" thing, you'd better make sure you have your roles clearly defined. There's nothing worse than working all day and coming home to an untidy house, TV dinners, and a pile of unclean laundry while she's been doing, well, nothing. Now, for the advice part: 1. Don't do it unless you're 100% certain you'll be able to live with this person for life - because divorce is a drag. You'd be better off staying single. 2. Get pre-marital counseling. It'll help a lot. 3. Remember the small stuff. Chicks dig that. And it's cheap. |
Clear it with her before you post a picture of her on this messageboard :D

I agree about the pre-marital counseling stuff. I am not married, personally. But my father is a minister and he has adopted a standing rule that before he marries any couple they must go through pre-maritial counseling. Since he adoptd that rule (about 20 years ago) he has been very happy with the results. Post-maritial counseling needs are down, divorce rates of those he marries are down, and so forth. -Anxiety |

are you married? you actually got all 3 of these wrong (your advice, however, was good). |
Serious advice:
When it comes to planning the wedding, stake out a few duties that you can handle and leave the girly stuff to her. It sounds really nice to say you'll both cooperate on everything, but you want no part of pew bows and flowers and choirs and that sort of thing. I suggest taking care of the reception hall, limo and DJ. That should take about an afternoon, but if you're good you can stretch it out for several months. |

How can #3 be "wrong?" Would it not suck to come home to an untidy house, TV dinners, and a pile of unclean laundry after she's been at home all day? I mean, granted, while my wife is sick or something, I don't get bent about it, but there'd be a problem if I knew she spent the day watching Oprah and I have no clean socks to wear, dirty dishes in the sink, and a microwave pizza for dinner. As for #2... are you telling me it's better to have 15 year old kids while you're 55? I want mine out of the house while I'm young enough to enjoy it, thanks. ;) And #1, well, your mileage may vary, but I've been married twice, and the first one DEFINATELY got worse in bed after we tied the knot. The second is not nearly so bad, but certain, umm, favors, are not quite so easy to come by any longer. |

Better yet, elope. Unless her parents are loaded and are taking care of EVERYTHING, it's a monumental pain in the ass. |
well,
#1 has certainly gotten better each and every year. #2 the fact that we waited a few years to have kids have made the process SO much more enjoyable - we had a chance to enjoy married life together (no rugrats). have kids right away, and that won't happen for 20 years. #3 I won't comment on. to each his own, I guess. |

Congratulations. Wait... does your wife read this board? ;) Quote:
I guess that depends on what you consider "enjoying married life together." If you have the means to travel, dine out frequently, and basically live it up, party on, Wayne. For an average schmuck like me, having kids around doesn't really change routine life together too much. Quote:
Why not? (maybe your wife DOES read this board...) ;) |
Quote:
because it sounded very 1950's. |
Quote:
Oh... so in the year 2000, it's more politically correct to have a stay-at-home wife/mom that sits on her ass all day? ;) |
Quote:
Absolutely correct! Especially with the stretching it out. |
Dude - ...post...a...pic.
|
congrats Celeval
|
Quote:
fuck no. she needs to get off her ass and get a real job, so I can sit on my ass all day. :p |

j/k, congrats For the real advice, if she does not consider an open bar at the reception a necesity, well, she's just not worth having. |
Congrats Kevin.
Advice: Do not come home from your bachelor party with your underwear in your pocket. Trust me on this. |
Congratulations.
Let me share a bit of advice that a man much wiser than I once told me. When I was about 14, my grandfather took me aside and told me, "Now son, I know you're getting to the age when girls become more interesting to you, and that's good. But you listen to this, I've been married to your grandmother for 53 years....and sometimes it's been better, sometimes it's been worse. But you remember no matter what, it's bro's before ho's." Thank you Grandpa... |
Thanks for the congrats and the advice. Had me rolling. :)
I will post (a link to) pictures once we have them developed. Kevin |
You are aware that we are not asking for pictures of the fireworks?
|
congrats!
|
Congrats man, hope you enjoy all the planning, my wedding is in OCtober, and we've been going in fifty directions with the plans....Oh and just FYI there will be a 4 hour open bar after the dinner commences =)
I know I want to be drunk after saying the vows!!! |
Congratulations, Celeval! Now go hide before she tries to make you look at bridal magazines! ;)
