Holes in the database
ok, the database of teams is about ready...should have a "beta" version up somewhere in about an hour or so.
here's a breakdown of some of the stuff I'm trying to track down... - Capacity for Buffalo Baseball Park (1922-1923) - Capacity for Canisius College Villa (Buffalo) (1920-1921) - Capacity for Hamilton's Civic Stadium from 1950-1958 (my guess is about 10,000). - Whether London (England)'s Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is turf or grass Turf. Also Stadium Stamford Bridge Grass and White Hart Lane. - Capacity for Douglas Park (in Rock Island, Il) from 1920-1925 - The date that artificial turf was installed at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium - Ditto Ottawa's Frank Clair/Landsdowne, Winnipeg's Canad Inn Stadium (aka Winnipeg Stadium) and Regina's Taylor Field. (note, I know all would be post-1970, as Vancouver's Empire Stadium is billed to have the first turf in Canada installed in 1970. - Capacity for Frankford, Pa's Frankford Stadium (I believe it is slightly over 15,000) (1920's) - Surface type (artificial or grass) for Clemson's Memorial Stadium (1995) grass - any good info on Calgary's Mewata Stadium (I know 1936 capacity was 2,000 and 1959 capacity was 16,700...no idea when changes were made). - capacity for Potsville, Pa's Minersville park (1925-1928) - confirmation that the Kansas City Cowboys and Kansas City Blues played at Muehelbach Field (1924-1926) - capacity for Winnipeg's Osborne Stadium (1936-1952). - capacity for Regina's Park de Young (1936-1946). - stadium info, all from 1920's of Canton Bulldogs, Duluth Kelley's/Eskimos, Evansville (Ind) Crimson Giants, Louisville Brecks/Colonels, Milwaukee Badgers, Minneapolis Marines/Red Jackets, Newark Tornadoes, Boston Bulldogs, Racine Legion, Rochester Independents, Toledo Maroons. - stadium info for Vancouver Grizzlies (1941) some of this info may be hidden forever - I've spent sometime with Google over the last year or so researching this stuff...but some of you guys (cthomer, this means you) may be able to unearth stuff I couldn't. EDIT found information is bolded. |

I'll definitely look into some of this stuff this evening. I love reading anything about the early days of football, so this research is always fun for me. |
If Memorial Stadium is Clemson's baseball stadium, it is grass. It is a unique field with a hill in the outfield instead of a warning track (all the way around).
|
You should post this as a quiz and you'd have the answers in about 5 minutes.

not sure if it's the same, but I did finally discover that it's grass. thanks! |
Well I looked at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centers website it says that the surface is astroturf and is used for football 11-a-side
|
Stadium Standford Bridge had undersoil heating and looks like real grass. It was built sometime ago, and I can see no mention of them changing the surface to turf.
|
Artificial surfaces are not allowed on FIFA approved facilities.
They are allowing experiments in using "Real Turf" for a trial period. But I don't believe any of those are in England. |
