CM4 Net game?

There's a bunch of folks who either have CM4 or will be getting it in the next few weeks, and one of the things I hear when talking to them is "When can we get a net game going.."

So far the list of folks interested are as follows:

SirFozzie
Neuqua
VTBub (getting the game in a couple weeks)
RPI-Fan
Chief Rum

I would prefer a fictional players league, and we have a couple choices about our "main" league. Either MLS, or Div 1 England, or whatever.

Post here if you're interested, or have ideas.

bbor 08-04-2003 03:56 PM

I'd be mucho interested in an online league

The Afoci 08-04-2003 04:06 PM

I would be interested as well. I don't know the requirements, but I only have dial up at home.

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 04:07 PM

I don't THINK dialup be a problem, but we'll see. :)

Easy Mac 08-04-2003 04:08 PM

I'm game, but i work at nights, so not sure if i'd always be available.

condors 08-04-2003 04:08 PM

i would love this !

McSweeny 08-04-2003 04:08 PM

sounds interesting

how exactly would it work though?

condors 08-04-2003 04:09 PM

england or mls works for me

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 04:09 PM

Basically, myself or Ron or somebody with a Cable Modem sets up the game, acts as a server and sets the leagues to be run.

Then everyone connects to the server, and manages normally.

Radii 08-04-2003 04:20 PM

I'm interested in giving it a try also.

Easy Mac 08-04-2003 04:21 PM

Can someone go on holiday in an online game?

That way they don't hold the game up if they aren't there or something. Then, I could probably host it (I'm the only one who uses the modem), but I wouldn't always need to be there.

And there needs to be time limits on people's turns. We can't have everybody scouring the transfer market for an hour when its their turn. MAybe we could have IM open or something to let others discuss whats going on, and to remind people to move it along.

oh, and I say MLS, just because its small and manageable, then if we feel like we want to expand, we can start over or something, but I think doing a league with more than 10 leagues can make it move very slowly, especially if everyone has to be online. I also think itd be cool watching one of us be up for the title every year, and seeing who has a chance to be a USA manager, pimping our own guys and such.

bbor 08-04-2003 04:22 PM

Hmm..i may have a problem too if dial up is no good:(

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 04:26 PM

Folks can go on Holiday, definitely, and it is recommended you use CM4 chat or an AIM window it's fairly easy.

JHandley 08-04-2003 04:28 PM

I've got CM4, I'd love to do something like this. However, I'm not sure how it works. Would we all have to be logged on at the same time? How does a net league work?

Marc Vaughan 08-04-2003 04:31 PM

CM4 works like Quake etc. in that you all log in and play simultaneously.

When you log out put yourself on holiday with default settings (ie. what team you want active, whether you'll accept bids for players etc.) and that way if you're not around when the game continues it will at least follow your rules.

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 04:35 PM

Marc, what would you say about dialup, I don't think it'd be TOO much of an issue with regards to dialup speed, would it?

BreizhManu 08-04-2003 04:48 PM

I'd be interested in joining too

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 05:10 PM

Great Briez: So, we might have to go to Europe, with the amount of folks we now have, either that or have some coach at the MLS level, and some at the A-level. That's assuming, of course, when we decide to do it, everyone is available ;)

I'd prefer Europe but that's personal.
And if we do it in August, I'll be available, else I won't (assuming we'll play during the evening in the US which means during the night for me)

McSweeny 08-04-2003 05:33 PM

i would also prefer to play in some European league

dfisher 08-04-2003 05:36 PM

I would definitely be interested. I love doing online leagues, and CM4 is so damn addicting right now.

Dan

Neuqua 08-04-2003 05:37 PM

As I was tellin Foz via AIM, I'd like to play in somewhere like D1 England. It could be exciting to not only try and gain promotion to the premier league, but at the same time trying to avoid relegation.

Get out of the stone age, Clemente!

condors 08-04-2003 05:47 PM

if we do europe i vote for england much easier for me to keep track of players names as i can pronounce them(usually)

Bee 08-04-2003 05:52 PM

Would this be a persistent thing (long term) or just for like 1 night?

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 05:52 PM

Long term

The Afoci 08-04-2003 05:57 PM

I vote England as well

Radii 08-04-2003 06:00 PM

I also prefer england but I'll do whatever

vtbub 08-04-2003 06:58 PM

Whatever works.

Too much self abuse..i should have listened to my mother....she always said i'd go blind:)

WussGawd 08-04-2003 08:01 PM

I am very interested, depending on time/day of the week.

I'd prefer England.

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 08:15 PM

Ok, looks like we're in Europe (probably England).

Do you prefer real or fictional players?

atatange1 08-04-2003 08:18 PM

I am interested as well. I would go with Italy as a league since there are no WP's but England would be great. Also I think it would be better if we ran a minimal amount of leagues like the EPL, Div.1 the Serie A and La Liga that way it won't take forever to sim since there would be so many people. That would also add a little extra to have those two top leagues running. I'm sure everyone could handle 4 divisions.

SirFozzie 08-04-2003 08:20 PM

Here's what I was planning:

England: To Div 1 (Thinking to conference)
France: 1st league only
Germany: Bundesliga only
Holland: premier only
Italy: Serie B
USA: MLS (or MLS + A-League if we do it that way)
Scotland: Premier only

Neuqua 08-04-2003 08:30 PM

If we go with playing in Div1 in England than I would recommend enabling play all the way down to Conference. Or atleast Div 2 in case one of our sides gets relegated. And also we can find some good young talent down there.

McSweeny 08-04-2003 08:33 PM

dibs on Nottingham Forest if we do English D1

Neuqua 08-04-2003 08:34 PM

YOU PUNK!

Almost my entire family lives in Nottingham, and I've been a follower of them for years!

:( :( :(

GoldenEagle 08-04-2003 08:36 PM

Im game.

atatange1 08-04-2003 08:40 PM

That makes sense about going to Div. 2 in case of relegation. I still think it would work better with a minimal amount of divisions. If we were going to play in England, EPL and Div. 1, I don't relly see the need for including 2nd divisions for leagues no-one is in. I would go with this:

EPL, Div. 1, Div. 2
German Premier
Holland Premier
Spain Premier
Serie A

JHandley 08-04-2003 08:57 PM

I'll throw in a vote for Serie B. I've always enjoyed the Italian leagues more. In any event, I'm up for whichever league we decide on.

BreizhManu 08-04-2003 08:59 PM

if holland premier is in, french L1 must be in too. (and if we use real players, since I'm in charge of the research for a few clubs, I know some good players :p )
