Calgary Open - Tiger League Event
After the success of our first major event of the year, we continue the tour in the suburbs of the beautiful city of Calgary, Alberta. Visible in the distance throughout the course is the skyline of downtown Calgary, as well the ski jumps from the 88 winter olympics. The course itself is a challenging affair, filled with many doglegs and slopes. Thursday, the 3rd of September is the deadline for entries. The conditions for this event are not too difficult at all: light rough, normal greens, but with some gusty winds. Pins will be moderate difficulty. A small purse is up for grabs in comparison to the Legends, but $750,000 is nothing to sneeze at. We will see if thealmighty can continue his domination of the tour, after opening up with 4 consecutive wins. The pack closed on him at Muirfield, with a three-way tie only a shot back.
Good luck in Calgary. |
My thoughts:
Got a par 71 on my first time through, but that was due to more blasting out of sand and chipping then anything. There are two REALLY long par 3's (I mean, driver par 3's).. playing them in par will be a challenge. I can't see a winning score be any lower then 68-69. The wind is the huge factor on this course. |
Just to clarify, since there was apparently some confusion: This event is at Crandall Pines, not Calgary Fields. Its called the Calgary Open because the Calgary skyline is visible in the background.

First practice round was, well...weird.
There are 5 par-5 holes, on which I was 7 under. Unfortunately, the par 4- and 3s did not go well, including a triple bogey on #1 (don't ask :) ). Still managed to be under par, which is good for a first practice round. |
2nd practice round was a bit better, though only 5-under on the par 5s.
Hint: if you want to go low on your score, try going for ALL the par 5s in 2 in your practice round to see if you can make it. |
Last day.. hope Matt updates this ;)

"Thursday, the 3rd of September is the deadline for entries."
Wednesday is the 3rd of September. Is the deadline the 3rd, or is it Thursday? (I hope Thursday, since I have not played my round yet.) |
Sorry, tomorrow. 4th. I am blind or something.
|
I almost bought this game at the Fayetville Target just to play in this.
|
Round completed and sent.
I can guarantee a first time winner this week, or may god strike... oh, wait a minute. :) |
what'd you shoot TE? PM me, just out of curiosity.
|
It was so bad (for me) I don't need to pm you. My mind is kinda fuzzy, fozzie (har har), but I think it was +1...or thereabout, anyway. Worst round I can recall that wasn't practice. :(
|
Heh. I'm getting used to red #'s. ;)

Final leaderboard is posted. A bit of a disappointing turn out for this event. Hopefully we will have more for the Arizona Open. Coyote Bluff is a stunning course with a pretty difficult back 9. It is one of my favorite courses, period.
EDIT - verification for my round is being uploaded as I write this. I understand it is a bit more important to have verification of my round in this particular instance :) Check http://www.cox-internet.com/pwatts14/crandall.JPG and http://www.cox-internet.com/pwatts14/crverify.JPG when they are uploaded (man its uploading slowly right now. cox is bad about this). |
OK cox wont let me upload right now for some reason. I get the first file to 62% and it just wont go further. You can see them shortly at
