Camels Spit, ya know - a Fast Break College Basketball Dynasty

Despite the poll in teh General Forum, I've decided to follow my own heart and go with a game I think I can really become immersed in... a college basketball sim, with great printing functionality for dynasties. It doesn't get any better than that for me.

FBCB LEAGUE SETTINGS:

Attributes rated 1-100

Teams will NOT move up and down conferences automatically, and conference prestige will NOT vary. ** NOTE: I intend to manually take care of this. I want some minor conference movement, but I want it to take something special to move conferences. I don't want to see Vandy kicked out of the SEC immediately for South Florida... what I've read from Marmel's Dynasty is a little more than I want in terms of team movement. Thus I will determine who deserves to move up and when, with the help of my readers should this become a popular read.

Injuries enabled, I'm curious about the toned down level Marmel mentions in his dynasty.

Players can be suspended for academic reasons.

THE TEAM

Welcome everyone to Buies Creek, North Carolina, the home of the Campbell Fighting Camels of the Atlantic Sun conference.

Campbell has a team prestige of 11, sufficiently low to give the desired challenge hopefully :)

Atlantic Sun Overview

Belmont College - Nashville, TN - Team Prestige 28
Central Florida - Orlando, FL - Team Prestige 25
Florida Atlantic - Boca Raton, FL - Team Prestige 19
Georgia State - Atlanta, GA - Team Prestige 64
Jacksonville - Jacksonvile, FL - Team Prestige 34
Jacksonville State - Jacksonville, AL - Team Prestige 27
Mercer U - Macon, GA - Team Prestige 21
Samford - Birmingham, AL - Team Prestige 55
Stetson - De Land, FL - Team Prestige 30
Troy State - Troy, AL - Team Prestige 53
Campbell - Buies Creek, NC - Team Prestige 11

Clearly we have a disadvantage even in our own horrid conference. Georgia State rides the coattails of the success of recently retired Lefty Driesell and has a huge edge over the rest of the conference.

The Atlantic Sun as a whole is a 2 prestige conference(confernces are rated 1-5, we're in line with the Big Sky, Big West, Ivy League and the like, and ahead of the SWAC, Patriot League, MEAC and that level).

Campbell Overview

Season Goal - Avoid Last Place in the conference

Training Facilities - Current Rating: 11 Conference Rank: 11 (out of 11)

Budget: $227,500

Well, we have a very low set of expectations for the season... lets see if we can live up to them.

Staff Hiring

I assume I need to go after some of the worse guys available here. Also we have a recommended $141,000 to spend on coaches.

Well.. that was easy, I get everyone in the first round of hiring:

Recruiting Coordinator: Albert Fowlkes - Age 27 - 44 Recruiting Rating - $50,000/yr salary

Lead Scout: Franklyn Connally - Age 31 - 45 Scouting Rating - $50,000/yr salary

Coaching Assistant: Max Cunningham - Age 44 - 46 Offense/24 Defense - $40,000/yr.

Nothing Special but hey what do you expect from the Fighting Camels?

Scheduling

We have 10 open games, and 4 of them can be at home. I have one requirement. I will play the Duke Blue Devils every year if they will accept the game. We hate Duke.

... We hate Duke even more. Duke is the only team to Reject our Proposal, they want a more challenging game.

We offer Wake Forest a game as well, they turn us down, and we end up agreeing to go to Tennessee-Martin to fill out our schedule.

Where do you find the conference prestige?

Radii 09-08-2003 01:22 AM

I have 4 scholarships to hand out this year during recruiting, so its time to take a look at our roster and see what we need to go after.

Campbell Roster

Centers

Jarred Brown - Senior - 6'10" 277

52 INSide, 35 Jumper, 57 Free Throws... a terrible passer and ballhandeler, a terrible post defender, terrible on the offensive glass. Hopefully this isn't the best we got.

Mathew Orellana - Freshman - 7'0" 243 - WalkOn

Oy, 13 INSide, 3 JumPShot, Fs across the board. Oh lord.

Charles Winkle - Freshman - 6'9" 208

30 INSide, 9 JumPShot, a better passer than either of the other two centers at 31, and a better post defender at 27(ugh). Winkle is actually a better defender than Brown but no offensive threat at all. He will be my backup.

Power Forwards

Jack Reinhold - Junior - 6'10" 245

25 INSide, 6 JumPShot, 45 Hands, 36 O Rebounding, 56 D Rebounding... he doesn't look liek he'll ever be a scorer for us, but he's one of the better rebounders on the team. He'll see a lot of time on the court I'm sure.

Timothy Hampton - Sophomore - 6'10" 254

47 INSide, 16 JumPShot, 36 Passing, 36 O Rebounding, 36 D Reboundnig, 47 Post Defense. Clearly the starter, and the best all around player I've seen yet.

Dirk Fluellen - Freshman - 6'6" 236

19 INSide, 14 JPS, 21 PAS, 18 ORB, 22 DRB, 23 PSD (post defense)... Fluellen looks like a good candidate for a reshirt.

Small Forwards

Michael Theriault - Senior - 6'9" 244

18 INS, 23 JPS, 9 3PS, 7 HND, 8 PAS, 28 ORB, 50 DRB, 37 PRD... I don't like the lack of handling and passing ability from a small forward, and I hope Theriault doesn't have to start.

Richard Conlon - Junior - 6'9" 225

36 INS, 23 JPS, 13 3PS, 26 HND, 14 PAS, 34 DRB, 32 PSD, 35 STL. Conlon is a bit more like I would expect out of a small forward... a shooter who can handle the ball at least a little.

Ben Simmons - Sophomore - 6'11" 237

24 INS, 11 JPS, 8 3PS, 26 HND, 26 PAS, 13 ORB, 56 DRB, 47 PSD, 23 PRD... is this guy a power forward or what? He's not terribly strong but his side, defense and rebounding kinda tells me I need to give him some shots down low.

Shooting Guards

Duane Medford - Senior - 6'6" 209

43 INS, 14 JPS, 19 3PS, 27 HND, 34 PAS, 7 PRD, 42 STL, 39 BLK, 86 QKN... this guy is quick, that has to be good. He has a good inside rating, does that mean he's a drive to the hoop kind of guy? I hope so because it seems he doesn't have much of an outside shot.

Neal Janakowski - Junior - 6'3" 231

46 INS, 51 JPS, 50 3PS. He can't pass, and he can't rebound, but he can shoot. Medford might be my starter just because he can help handle the ball and he can pass a bit, but Janakowski will definitely come in and see signifigant action.

Rupert Rounds - Sophomore - 6'3" 221

17 INS, 43 JPS, 29 3PS, 10 HND, 15 PAS, 24 ORB, 39 DRB, 52 PRD - Rounds looks like a decent redshirt guy as well. If he could make some improvement redshirting Rounds could be a signifigant contributor over the next 3 years for me.

Point Guards

Cristobal Hinojosa - Senior - 6'2" 196

14 INS, 48 JPS, 25 3PS, 47 HND, 24 PAS, 29 PRD, 66 STL, Hinojosa is probably my point guard, but I'm worried about his defense.

George Singh - Freshman - 6'1" 198 - Walk On

14 INS, 16 JPS, 8 3PS, 44 HND, 43 PAS, 16 PRD, 28 STL, Hinojosa is a more complete player, despite Singh being a better passer, Singh is a darn good non-scholarship player though.

Elisha Louie - Freshman - 6'0" 177

15 INS, 10 JPS, 30 3PS, 49 HND, 40 PAS, 23 PRD, Louie could play now, but I thikn it's probably best to redshirt him, and attempt to make him a 4 year starter next year. He could be a great ball distributor at this level.

Our graduating Seniors are at Center, SF, SG, and PG, so those are probably the areas to shoot for for recruiting.

July Recruiting

There are two 3 star recruits, and about 5 2 star recruits that have a high interest in Campbell. Recruiting is never easier than that, espicially at our low level, we go after anyone we think we can get cheaply that has some talent.

We use almost our entire monthly recruiting budget to make our initial evaluations. I don't know if we're contacting too many people(we're hitting about 11), or if we save that money can we have extra later on in the year... but I go after all of the 2* or better high interest guys, no matter what the location.

No scholarships have been offered yet.

August Recruiting

Most of our limited money is spent on our prize recruit hopeful. PG Timothy Christiansen is a 3 star guy, we've evaluated him as an average or better player across the board, he can shoot better than anyone currently on my team, and is an average defender. He's scoring 9 ppg, 5 rpg, and 1.9 apg in high school. I visit him, and I offer him a campus visit.

Our other "Prize" recruit is SG Charles Smith. His interest is only high, as opposed to the very high of Christiansen. I go ahead and pay him a visit as well though, and those two actions pretty much kill the recruiting budget for the month. I want to land a star though.

September Recruiting

SG Charles Smith falls to average, though I wonder if that's because we haven't offered him a scholarship, so I do that(whoops). We're 3rd on his list, behind Memphis and Seton Hall. He's from Indiana so I'm not sure there's a geographic advantage held by anyone.

PG Timothy Christiansen lists Campbell as his top choice. There is genuine excitement in this! I wonder if I need to pay him another visit? I don't do it though, I need to contact some others.

We pay a visit to SF Gregory Koenig, a good shooting SF from New York who looks to be a solid inside prescence, and is the #13 SF in the East Region. He is also our 3rd scholarship offer.

I'd like to make my 4th offer to a center, but the ones I have access to now are just bad.

October Recruiting

PG Timothy Christiansen has been offered a scholarship by Quinnipiac and favors them now. He's from Mass and that's a bit more local I believe. I pay him another head coach visit anyway, I want this guy.

Our other star recruit SG Charles Smith has been offered a scholarhip by both Memphis and Seton Hall, and he favors both of them over us. I back off, I don't think he's going to head my way.

I extend a campus visit offer to Gregory Koenig now that I have the money to do that.

My 4th scholarship may go to one of the walkons on my team right now, or I may pick up one of the crappy centers, but for now I'm content to attack these 3 guys and try to land someone with real talent.

November Recruiting

Timothy Christiansen, a PG from Swampscott, MA, has decided to attend Quinnipiac.

Gregory Koenig, a SF from St Johnsville, NY, has decided to attend Central Connecticut.

I make contact with two new guys to replace these. I also run training camps. I really don't do much special here, I select my redshirts that I mentioned in the roster review, and I make sure we practice man to man defense and the 2-3 zone.

That's it for tonight. I'm simmed up to the first game of the season, some of the national preseason tournaments.

I'm a huge fan of everything about College Basketball, so there is likely to be lots of "extraneous" stuff here... anything specific any of you want to see, feel free to ask.

Cal State-Fullerton at Campbell

We open the season at home, Cal State Fullerton is a very average team, but looking at their roster they have more guys who can shoot and more guys that can pass, and we're probably in trouble.

Starting Lineup:
C Jarred Brown - we want to pound it inside here
PF Timothy Hampton - Another guy who can score inside
SF Richard Conlon - We don't want Conlon shooting, but, he can handle the ball decently well
SG Neal Janakowski - Our best shooter by far
PG Cristobal Hinojosa - Decent jumper, decent passer

Team Strategy:
We use a slow'ish pace, very little motion, we're not going to shoot the 3 at all. We start in a 2-3 zone, we want to force them to shoot the 3 on us if we can.

Campbell wins the tipoff, Janakowski tries to drive to the basket, the ball is stolen, and Hinojosa is forced to foul on a 2 on 1 break. The first points of the season are scored by CS Fullerton from the free throw line, 13 seconds in.

The first 3 minutes is pure nightmare, we commit 4 fouls, 4 turnovers, Hinojosa blows a layup, and CS Fullerton leads 6-0. Jarred Brown, perhaps our best offensive threat, picks up his second foul with 16:57 left in the first half and is subbed out. George Singh comes in at poitn guard too, perhaps he wont have all his passes stolen.

SF Richard Conlon drives to the basket for a layup with 16:23 left in the first half, and Campbell scores its first ever FBCB points! 6-2 CS Fullerton.

12:50 left, first half. Janakowski finds Conlon open from the left baseline, and his jumper gives Campbell its first lead, 7-6.

10:58 left, first half. Duane Medford, today our backup SG, goes out with a concussion and is listed as day to day. He won't play anymore today it appears.

9:39 left, first half. A Timothy Hampton foul is our 7th of the half, CS Fullerton is in the bonus. The front end of the 1-and-1 is good, and its 9-7 Camels. That ended a solid 7+ minute scoreless streak, and we're on pace for 40 points here.

8:05 left, first half. Hamptom picks up his 2nd foul, and we've got two big men we are trying to keep on the bench til the half. Hampton is shining for us so far, 5 points and 3 boards. After the free throws its 13-9 Campbell.

7:05 left, first half. We put CS Fullerton in the double bonus on Hinojosa's second foul. The FTs are both off. 13-11 Camels.

6:46 left, first half. Richard Conlon drives to the basket, goes up for a layup, he's fouled, and the shot is good! Conlon drops the free throw and it's 16-11 Camels! Conlon has 7 points.

4:42 left, first half. Richard Conlon picks up his 2nd foul, and goes to the bench. It looks like the only thing that could stop us today is foul trouble though. After the free throws, it's 20-14 Camels.

1:23 left, first half. A little run by CS Fullerton makes it close again. We've got two scrubs in down low to try to get out of the half with minimal foul trouble, and it may have been a mistake. It's 24-23 Campbell. I call a timeout and put the starters all back in to finish the half.

Halftime. Campbell 26 CS Fullerton 25

A quick look at the halftime stats:

C Jarred Brown - 4 minutes, 2 fouls.
C Charles Winklw - 2 points, 4 rebounds in 10 minutes
PF Timothy Hampton - 5 points, 3 rebounds in 11 minutes
SF Richard Conlon - 7 points
SG Neal Janakowski - 4 points in 14 minutes
PG Cristobal Hinojosa 4 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 5 Turnovers in 7 minutes
PG George Singh, 2 points, 1 assist, 0 turnovers in 13 minutes

Singh is my PG for the second half. He's not at all a scorer but he doesn't have 5 turnovers!

I want to get Janakowski more shots, without switching to an outside game if I can.

We're shooting 50% in the first half, to 42% for CSF. Rebounds, assists, steals are all just about even.

SECOND HALF

19:47 2nd half - Jarred Brown gets his first points. 28-25 Camels

18:54 2nd Half - Timothy Hampton picks up his 3rd foul. 30-27 Camels

18:29 2nd Half - Janakowski hits his 2nd shot of the half. He has 8 points and Janakowski and Brown are playing well so far.
Hampton comes out of the game, I want him available for hte last 10 minutes.

17:30 2nd Half - Janakowski has 10 points now. Making him the 1st Key Player on the list did it it seems. I also only have two key players instead of the default 3 (Janakowski and Brown). 34-27 Camels.

17:02 2nd half - CS Fullerton feels it slipping away and burns a time out. 36-27 Camels.

16:34 2nd half - Play is stopped due to an injury to George Singh. I lowered injury frequency slightly. Maybe I need to lower it more. It's just a jammed finger, he isn't so bad off. Hinojosa comes in anyway. 38-29 Camels.

13:15 2nd half - Following a little run by CS Fullerton, we take a timeout and sub out some guys starting to tire. 42-37 Camels.

12:38 2nd half - Timothy Hampton is hurt, he's out for 8 days. Definitely didn't lower injuries enough. 42-37 Camels.

9:40 2nd half - Campbell is in the bonus, 7 fouls on CSF. We're at 6 fouls so it's not going to be a big advantage. We bring the starters back in also after the short rest. 46-40 Camels

7:43 2nd half - Hinojosa commits his 4th foul, and CSF is in the penalty too. We could be in some trouble with Signh hurt and hinojosa with 4 fouls. 48-44 Camels.

4:58 2nd half - It's getting towards crunch time. 50-48 Camels. We call a timeout as we're getting pretty tired. Janakowski is going to play the point for about 2 minutes, to let Hinojosa rest up for the last 3 minutes.

3:54 2nd half - 5 straight points from Janakowski helps Campbell stretch the lead out to 57-50. He just drained a HUGE 3 pointer, giving him 19 points on the game.

3:34 2nd half - The starters are all in for the final 3 1/2... except for Janakowski who is going to sit out one more minute and the starters will be all in for the final 2 1/2. 59-52 Campbell.

2:37 2nd half - A turnover by CSF keeps our lead at 5. Janakowski is back in. 63-58 Camels.

CSF Just simply could not stop Neal Janakowski the entire second half.

Janakowski was huge today, and hopefully he can continue to come up so big. George Singh is a much better ball control point guard, but Hinojosa made up for his mistakes by hitting 10-10 from the line, mostly in the last 3 minutes. Charles Winkle was great when Jarred Brown missed most of the first half with foul trouble.

Colgate (0-0) at Campbell (1-0)

Medford and Hampton are still not 100%. Hampton is at 99% though so I assume that he can go though. Singh is back, and I'm starting him at PG today.

Starters:
C Jarred Brown
PF Jack Reinhold
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

No one for Colgate really stands out, their perimeter defense is really poor, so I'm hoping Janakowski can have a huge day today.

14:37 1st Half - Jarred Brown picks up foul #2, this is bad. Colgate is slowly building a lead, as we've turned it over 6 times already. 13-8 Colgate.

13:48 1st Half - Hinojosa gets a breakaway on a steal, finishes with a dunk, and taunts his opponent! 14-10 Colgate.

13:15 1st Half - Colgate PF Brian Williams has 9 points already. We decide to double team him.

10:39 1st Half - I brought Jarred Brown back in by accident(well, no, by stupidity, wasn't paying attention to fouls). He picks up foul #3. 18-10 Colgate.

4:42 1st Half - We've closed the gap some and held Brian Williams to only two more points. Jack Reinhold gets his 3rd foul and sits out the rest of the half. 24-20 Colgate.

3:35 1st Half - A Chris Winkle foul puts Colgate in the bonus. 27-20 Colgate.

Janakowski sinks a jumpshot as time expires in the first half, capping a 6-0 run to end the first half.

Colgate 29, Campbell 28 - Halftime

We're shooting 50% from the field, to 39% for Colgate, we should never be behind if that happens. Our 13 turnovers, to 8 for Colgate, is making the difference here.

No one really stands out at the half. Jarred Brown scored 6 points in 6 minutes on his way to 3 fouls. No one else has more than 4. Janakowski is 2-5 with 4 points.

SECOND HALF

19:40 2nd half - Janakowski scores on the first possession of the half, and it's 30-29 Fighting Camels. Our first lead of the game I believe.

15:24 2nd Half - Big time Colgate scorer Brian Williams commits his 4th foul, two of them were charges early in the 2nd half, this one is against Hinojosa going up for a dunk. 38-34 Colgate.

13:31 2nd Half - Colgate is turning the ball over a lot, they're up to 13 turnovers now, we're only at 15(after 12 at the half), and we've got our best possible lineup on the floor, all fresh. Its time to make a run. 40-38 Colgate.

11:56 2nd half - a steal by Janakowski leads to a 2 on 1 break. Janakowski gets the bucket and its tied up. 40-40.

11:00 2nd half - Janakowski is the first Camel in double digits with 10 points. 42-42.

10:48 2nd half - Jarred Brown is the first camel with 4 fouls.

8:46 2nd half - With 3 tired guys, Colgate has to call a time out, and we've got the edge now by a little bit, 46-42 Fighting Camels.

7:25 2nd half - We don't have any starters in right now, and it's only 46-45 Camels. 4 quick fouls by Campbell and we've lost what could have been a huge edge, it was 6 fouls for Colgate to 1 for Campell and we were hoping to get to the line a ton more than Colgate. 46-45 Campbell.

5:59 2nd half - A Ben Simmons foul sends Colgate to the line for a one-and-one... we still haven't gotten to the line this half. 49-45 Campbell.

5:17 2nd half - Play is stopped due to an injury to Ben Simmons.

4:47 2nd half - a big steal by center Mathew Orellana leads to a 3 on 2 break, Michael Theriault gets a bucket to keep Campbell slightly ahead. 51-49. The starters are set to come back in at the 4 minute mark.

3:54 2nd half - Jack Reinhold has come up HUGE today as really my only power forward. 8 points, 7 rebounds, and he just got his 3rd blocked shot, leading to a bucket for Campbell. 55-49 Camels. We call a timeout to get our starters in for the stretch run

3:35 2nd half - Jarred Brown rebounds a missed Colgate shot, and then gets t he bucket on the other end of the court for his 10th point. 57-49 Campbell. A huge 8-0 run.

2:46 2nd half - Colgate misses its 2nd straight front end of a 1-and-1. That just might kill Colgate. 57-49 Campbell.

1:38 2nd half - George Singh goes 1-3 from the line in two trips, and to make sure that we're not going to let colgate back in the game, Hinojosa comes into the game, coming off his 10-10 FT performance. 58-51 Camels.

1:16 2nd half - Neal Janakowski fouls Colgate's Stephen Long for his 4th foul, then argues the call and gets a Technical! He's out of the game! What a horrible time to lose your temper... Four free throws by Colgate are good, it's 60-55 Campbell.

1:11 2nd half - Jarred Brown hits 1 of 2 free throws. 61-55 Campbell.

:44 2nd half - Stephen Long of Colgate misses a layup, but gets the putback. 61-57 Campbell.

That's how it ends! Hinojosa missed two free throws, but Colgate couldn't score again in the last 30 seconds.

The blocked shots all seemed extremely timely, and after the first half, Colgate turned it over much more in the 2nd half... a big win to go 2-0!

The biggest thing though, is taht Brian Williams scored 9 points in the first 10 minutes, we doubleteamed him and slowed him down some, and then he got into major, major foul trouble. I think without the foul trouble on Williams, we may not have won.

Campbell's George Singh is player of teh game:
7 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 0 turnovers in 21 minutes.

Thanks guys :) I love College Basketball so much... a truly quality college basketball sim could have me going for a very very long time. I'm really excited about this game.

Campbell(2-0) at Georgia(0-0)

This was the only big school we were able to get to play us.

We're amazingly outclassed here. UGA has what looks to be an All-SEC center, and their point guard is very high quality. We're going to slow down the game as much as we possibly can, and that's really it. We also go a 2-3 zone today.

Starting Lineup:
C Jarred Brown
PF Tim Hampton (back from injury)
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

Georgia starts in a 2-1-2 zone. We go up 2-0 on the first posession! Jarred Brown commits a foul on UGA's first posession!

16:00 12-4 UGA. Sometimes you just want to auto-sim.

We actually made it a lot closer than it should have been, cutting the lead to 5 at one point late in the first half, but we're just not meant to beat teams in top tier conferences.

UGA 64, Campbell 51

Georgia only shot 43%, 53% from the line, but we shot 34% from the field... rebounds were close, 38-37 UGA, but the assists(18-7), steals(11-3) and turnovers (10-20) all heavily favored the Bulldogs.

It looks like it'll take another 2-3 weeks for the polls to settle down. That's always a failing of every college basketball sim... football too but it doesn't take as long to settle down in football. It'll be December before the polls become worthwhile in any way.

The RPI is just as worthless I'm sure. We're 98th somehow.

Campbell (2-1) at Tennessee-Martin (0-0)

Tennessee Martin has one player I worry about. SG Harley Duck is a good jump shooter and a very good 3 point shooter. He's going to get double teamed outside. I think if I can keep Duck from getting open jumpshots, then the Fighting Camels are going to win this game.

Starting Lineup:
C Jarred Brown
PF Tim Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

19:33 1st Half - Janakowski opens the scoring with a 3 pointer. 3-0 Camels.

18:48 1st Half - Play is stopped due to an injury to Timothy Hampton. Grrrr. He's out for 8 days. 3-2 Camels.

18:26 1st Half - Janakowski is on fire! 2-2 from 3 point range. 6-2 Camels.

17:56 1st Half - Jack Reinhold(Hampton's replacement) is fouled on a dunk and it goes down! 3 point play! 9-2 Camels.
Tennessee-Martin burns a timeout.

16:44 1st Half - Harley Duck hits a 3 pointer for TN-Martin, and Janakowski fouls him... that's a 4 point play, and it's 2 fouls on our star. 13-7 Camels, sub at SG.

12:33 1st Half - wholesale subs as we're getting a bit tired. We're on fire though, the team is shooting 71% from the field. 24-14 Campbell. Also, TN Martin has committed 7 fouls and we're in the bonus.

7:45 1st half - the starters minus Janakowski come back in. A little run by TN Martin was just ended by a Hinojosa 3 point play. 31-24 Camels.

2:34 - If Harley Duck isn't in the game, TN Martin has zero offense. He's been resting awhile and they just can't score. 40-26 Camels.

Campbell 41, Tennessee-Martin 26

We're shooting 48%, TN Martin 35%. Rebounds are even, but we've got the steals and we have only made 4 turnovers, to TN Martin's 10. A very solid overall game.

Jarred Brown is looking for a double double, 10 points/5 boards at the half. Jake Reinhold is proving to be a very good power forward with all the injury problems to my intended starter, Reinhold has 7 points/3 boards and a couple of blocks. George Singh, a walk-on remember, is going to be getting a scholarship offer after the game today. 5 points/3 boards/4 assists... he's so much better than Hinojosa it's silly.

SECOND HALF

13:55 - The first stoppage of the clock. We're not shooting well but it isn't going to matter unless TN MArtin gets very hot. 45-34 Camels.

6:27 2nd Half - We're rolling along, it'll take a huge run for us to be threatened here. 54-41 Camels.

FINAL:
Campbell 64
Tennessee-Martin 52

It wasn't ever realy close after the first 5 minutes or so.

Campbell TN Martin

12 TO 24

the turnovers were key. We held Harley Duck to 14 points, and had a couple of big games from Brown and Janakowski.

Neal Janakowski is our player of the game.

Jack Reinhold is really impressive me with his defense and rebounding abilities, and he seems to manage 5-10 points a game as well when Hampton is hurt, which is often so far.

Campbell(3-1) at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2)

Really this game shouldn't be a challenge.

We arrogantly come out in a 1-3-1 defense, just to see how it improves since we didn't train it earlier in the year.

Starters:
C Jarred Brown
PF Jack Reinhold
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

12:57 1st half - Back to man to man! The problem though, is that we're shooting 22%, but we are allowing Ark-Pine Bluff to hit 50% from the field. 9-5 Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

12:17 1st half - 7 fouls for Ark PB, and Hinojosa is gonig to the line. After he hits them we trail, 11-9.

10:06 1st half - Our reserves have given us the lead, hopefull for good. 15-14 Campbell.

7:19 1st half - We're up to 40% from the field but Ark PB is shooting really well, and we're trailing. We're getting outrebounded an insane 14-6 as well. 22-17 Ark PB

4:39 1st half - a 3 pointer by Ark PB and they're still on fire. 29-21 Ark PB.

Wow, we just can't stop these guys!

Arkansas Pine Bluff 39, Campbell 30, halftime

Ark PB is shooting 55% from the field, 63% from the line, and 50% from 3. We're shooting 44% from the field, 57% from the line, and haven't made a 3 yet.

Ark PB's point guard Garcia has 16 points, I started doubleteaming him after he hit double figures... now he's getting assists instead.

4 turnovers each, it's been a very clean game... we just need to turn up the defense a bit.

SECOND HALF

17:36 2nd half - Garcia dunks on us despite the double team early, but a nice little run led by Jarred Brown(13 pts so far) has put us in good shape. 41-38 Ark Pine Bluff.

15:19 2nd half - After a foul by Ark PB's Abraham Ellison, Ellison gets T'd up for arguing the call! The free throws are huge, but we can't capatilize on our free posession. 44-40 Ark Pine Bluff.

12:13 2nd Half - We can't shoot. They don't miss. 50-40 Ark Pine Bluff.

10:34 2nd half - a 3 point play by Chris Winkle, a turnover, and a 3 pointer by Janakowski couldn't have come at a better time. 50-46 Ark PB.

7:09 2nd Half - Ark PBs time for a run. They're still shooting 56%. 57-48 Ark PB.

5:35 2nd half - an Ark PB 3 point play is close to making this a runaway. 62-48 Ark PB.

That was just amazing.

FINAL:
Arkansas Pine Bluff 76
Campbell 65

Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Turnovers all even. The differencE?

Arkansas Pine Bluff - 58% FG%, 71% FT, 50% 3P
Campbell - 49% FG, 65% FT, 33% 3P

Ouch.

December Recruiting

We make a new contact in recruiting, and try to bring in a two star guy who has average interest. I don't think I'm doing a good job with recruiting at all... we'll see how it ends up though.

December 3rd
Samford (3-0) at Campbell (3-2)

This is our the opening game of the Atlantic Sun conference schedule.

Game Preview
Samford's best player, Andrew Estes, is serving a month long academic suspension. Thank god. He's got a 72 Inside rating, and was putting up 12 ppg/6 rpg a game. PG Mike Rosas is a very dangerous point guard, he has 12.3 ppg, and SG Chris Brower is also a very good shooter, 9.7 ppg.

These guys have some players, and I'd think we're pretty heavy underdogs.

Starting Lineup:
C Jarred Brown
PF Tim Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

We're fully healthy, lets see how long that lasts.

19:23 1st - We're doubleteaming PG Mike Rosas... doesn't matter, he drains a 3.

18:18 1st - Rosas with a layup. 7-2 Samford

16:03 1st - We sub in Hinojosa, we need offense, and he can shoot a little bit. We burn a timeout to try to end a run too. 11-2 Samford.

12:53 1st - A tiny run, Hampton hits a couple of shots, and it's 13-8 Samford. Our starters are wearing a little though, we start subbing through our rotation.

9:20 1st - wooie did we go cold. We're shooting under 30% now, and I swear Samford has 6 2nd chance points... Samford 17-10.

7:31 1st - We're not ready to quick sim it just yet, but jesus. 23-10 Samford. Samford is in the bonus.

6:54 1st - Hinojosa has 3 fouls, 2 turnovers, 1 assist, 0 points. 25-10 Samford.

6:05 1st - Jarred Brown hits a shot!!! 28-12 Samford

We quick sim this one... down 16 at the half and it didn't really change any.

Samford 68
Campbell 50

What I'm seeing is that I do'nt have a single good player. What I mean by that is that every team I face has a guy or two with a 70 or 80 rating somewhere. One dangerous shooter, one great defender, something like that. We have no one at all to matchup anywhere. And it doesn't look like we're getting any better in the offseason, unless we get a recruiting miracle, so lets hope they're patient in Buies Creek.

We shot 36%, and Samford blocked SEVEN shots.

December 6th
Jacksonville (1-4, 0-1) at Campbell (3-3, 0-1)

Jacksonville has two solid scorers, Center Arthur Paulson is rated 87 inside, and SG James Handy has a 74 Jumpshot, 66 Jumper from Hildebrand... all of this is better than our best guys.

After seeing Janakowski a 36% shooter, we change our strategy... Brown and Hampton, inside, often. We're going to open the game in the 2-3 zone, and we switch to an inside focus on offense. Lets see how it works.

Campbell Starters:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Richard conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

18:08 1st - 3 breakaways in a row, all converted beautifully by George Singh, and Jacksonville is reeling, and they call a timeout. 8-2 Campbell

14:21 1st - It's back and forth, and Timothy Hampton picks up his 2nd foul, he'll sit out awhile. George Singh has 8 points early. 14-8 Campbell.

14:13 1st - SG Duane Medford comes down with a SEVERE MIGRAINE. Yes, in the middle of play. Yes, it's going to keep him out 9 days. 14-8 Campbell.

11:01 1st - Chris Winkle is a moron. We're on a huge run, up 18-8, and he argues a call and gets a technical foul. They make the free throws, get the ball out of bounds, and score on a 3 point play... way to kill all our momentum Winkle. 18-13 Campbell.

7:02 1st - We're in some serious early foul trouble. Brown, Conlon, Hampton and Winkle have 2 fouls each, Jacksonville is in the double bonus. After the free throws we've lost the lead. 25-24 Jacksonville.

6:46 1st - We're in the bonus now, and Arthur Paulson has 2 fouls for Jacksonville, that's huge. He has 10 points already, despite the 2-3 zone closing down on him. We miss the FT. 25-24 Jacksonville.

2:47 1st - a huge 3 pointer by Janakowski, he has 7 points, and it's 33-28 Campbell.

This one is looking tight at the half.

Campbell 36, JAcksonville 35

Both teams are shooting 46%, and there's really no edge anywhere. We suffered a lot due to foul trouble, and hopefully with our starters coming back in(hopefully foul free), we can pull away here.

George Singh leads us with 9 points, Janakowski has 7. Jarred Brown has 5 rebounds, and Hampton only got 6 minutes of action, he's ready to come out an score.

SECOND HALF

17:30 2nd - Two straight turnovers by Campbell lead to two dunks for Jacksonville... 43-42 Jacksonvill. Arthur Paulson is killing us, he has 14 points now.

16:56 2nd - a Janakowski Jumper ends a 6-0 Jacksonville run.. 45-44 Jacksonville.

14:24 2nd - Janakowski is keeping us in it... We sub out some of our starters to keep everyone fresh, and JArred Brown has just picked up foul #3, our first as a team of the half though. 48-47 Campbell.

13:48 2nd - Reinhold draws a huge charge on Arthur Paulson. Paulson has committed his 3rd foul. Janakowski gets a bucket on the other end, and he's got 15 points. 50-49 Campbell.

9:30 2nd - The shooting percentages are going straight up here, neither team can stop the other. Arthur Paulson is getting really worn out, but he's got 24 points and Jackonville doesn't want to take him out. We wanted to make some subs of our own, its mostly our second string in there, but we weren't about to call a timeout and let Paulson get any rest. Finally there's a foul and the subs are in. 64-61 Campbell.

8:31 2nd - Janakowski hits his 17th point, and with Paulson sitting out I'm kind of desparate to build up a lead here. 66-61 Campbell.

7:01 2nd - Jarred Brown picks up his 4th foul, but we're building up the lead slowly but surely. 68-62 Campbell.

4:06 2nd - We're holding on to a slim 6 point lead, and they still haven't brought Paulson back into the game yet. We've got our subs setup so that we've always got 2 or 3 starters in, and hopefully they'll all be in for the last 2 minutes. 71-65 Campbell.

2:59 2nd - Jacksonvill had the chance to cut the lead to 2 points, but a couple of turnovers, capped by a Janakowski steal and bucket for his 21st points, start to put it out of reach. 75-67 Campbell.

2:01 2nd - Paulson finally re-enters the game, but it's too late. 77-67 Campbell.

Hinojosa finishes it off from the line.

FINAL
Campbell 81
Jacksonville 72

Neal Janakowski is the game's MVP. We shot 53% and had a 38-30 rebounding edge in the win, a huge one as we try to secure a spot well out of the Atlantic Sun cellar. Could we have won without Paulson fouling out? We'll find out in a fwe days, a scheduling quirk has us going to Jacksonville to finish off the season series later this week.

Finally gettting things together with my UNC-Asheville squad. For the first time, I'm actually contending for a conference title. And I only have one scholarship player leaving after this season.

Woot!

December 10th, 2003
Campbell (4-3, 1-1) at Jacksonville (1-5, 0-2)

A win here puts us well on our way of reaching our goal for the season... to avoid last place in the Atlantic Sun.

We go with the same strategy that worked for us at home, we're going to poundi t inside and try to get Arthur Paulson in foul trouble again.

Starters:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

15:10 1st - Its back and forth for a bit but a 3 point play by Conlon and a breakaway layup by Janakowski have opened a bit of a lead. 11-6 Campbell. We start rotating in some fresh bodies.

14:58 1st - George Singh has the only 2 Camels fouls so far... he takes a seat.

12:03 1st - Jacksonville has committed their 7th foul already, Jarred Brown sinks his Free Throws and it's 17-12 Campbell.

7:10 1st - Paulson is eating us alive, he has 10 points and 5 boards, but, the fouls Jacksonvile are committing are really working for us... we're shooting 92% from the line so far. Paulson has no fouls though. 25-20 Campbell.

2:26 1st - We get three shots thanks to some offensive rebounding but can't finish the deal... it's close. 30-28 Campbell.

Campbell 32, Jacksonville 32 - Halftime

The story is Arthur Paulson. 16 points, 8 boards at the half.

Jacksonville shoots 39%, we shoot 31%, but Jacksonville hasn't been to the line all game, while we're an amazing 16-18 from the line in the first half. Hinojosa has 8 points, 6 from the line. Jarred Brown has 6 points and 5 boards. Janakowski is a cold 2-7 from the field.

SECOND HALF

16:11 2nd - Hinojosa drives to the hoop, he's fouled, and they argue the call, technical foul! Hinojosa is rewarded with 4 free throws, and they're all good. 42-39 Campbell.

14:53 2nd - We keep going inside, and they keep fouling us. With still 15 minutes left, we are in the bonus. 43-39 Campbell

10:30 2nd - Paulson is destroying me. 22 points, 11 boards. 51-47 Jacksonville.

9:04 2nd - Arthur Paulson... 26 points, 11 boards. Janakowski just hit a bucket to keep us close. 55-50 Jacksonville.

3:18 2nd - We get 2 buckets in a row to keep ourselves in the game, but this is gonna be tough to win. 63-59 Jacksonville.

2:02 2nd - Jarred Brown gets called for a technical foul... horrible timing. 67-61 Jacksonville.

0:53 2nd - Down by 4, we let Jacksonville get TWO ofensive rebounds before finally scoring... that probably killed us. 69-63 Jacksonville.

We choked so horribly at the end of that game.

Looks like Paulson is an early season favorite for All-Conference. He dropped 26 and 28 points on you in those two games. Ouch!

Probably so. I haven't really looked at the other teams in the conference very closely yet, but yeah he is certainly off to a great start.

I think we need to land one big recruit to compete in this conference. Every team seems to have one guy, usually a good scorer, and maybe one good defensive player, and the rest of the team would be just as crappy as ours... but where our "standouts" have scoring ratings in the 50s, someone like Paulson has a rating in the high 80s. We need to grab one guy like that and we can probably win at this level. But it isn't happening this year based on the horrible start I've gotten to the recruiting season.

I'm in my 7th season I think.

I started on Level 0, so I have a tough time recruiting. And developing players isn't easy either (particularly on defense).

Oh, and good job!:)

Dartmouth (3-3) at Campbell (4-4)

This looks like a team that we can really dominate. They don't have the one great athlete that other teams seem to have that have been giving me so many problems.

We're going to try to pound the ball inside again, and see if that gives us the edge on the free throw line like it did vs Jacksonville.

Starting Lineup:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

18:10 1st - Jarred Brown picks up a quick 2 fouls and is sitting awhile. 2-2 tie.

15:09 1st - Janakowski drains a 3 pointer, he has all 7 of our points so far. 7-6 Campbell.

13:35 1st - Janakowski has all 13 points. 13-11 Campbell.

11:27 1st - Ben Simmons hits a jumper from the left baseline! The first points NOT scored by Neal Janakowski. Janakowski has 15 points! 17-15 Campbell.

8:37 1st - Janakowski comes out of the game for the first time to a roaring ovation from the Campbell crowd here at Buies Creek! He drained another 3 and has 18 points. 22-17 Campbell.

7:24 1st - George Singh gets a steal and a breakaway layup, giving the Fighting Camels their biggest lead of the night, 28-20. Dartmouth burns their 2nd timeout of the half.

6:08 1st - Campbell is shooting free throws on every foul from here on out. Conlon hits 1 of 2 and it's 29-22 Campbell.

0:39 1st - Dartmouth's offense ignites on a 3 point play with about 3 minutes left, and they go on a 7-0 run erasing a rather nice sized lead that we had built up. 35-34 Campbell.

Campbell 35, Dartmouth 34 - HALFTIME

There are two stories here.

Neal Janakowski - 8-13 FGs, 2-2 3FG, 3 rebounds, 18 points, 0 fouls.

The other story is on Dartmouth's side. McEachern, their SG, has 10 points, 5 boards, and FOUR FOULS. He is their best player and has played over 6 minutes with 4 fouls... we need to get him out of the game, and fast.

Also, we missed the front end of 3 one-and-ones, that can be devastating if we don't end up winning this game.

SECOND HALF

15:12 2nd - We're on a little run here, Jarred Brown just hit a jumper in transiition after a steal, and it's 46-39 Campbell.

10:27 2nd - Hampton scores his 10th point of the game, and the Camels have built up a 10 point lead now, 54-44.

7:24 2nd - Janakowski's first bucket in quite some time, it's a backbreaker, his 3rd 3 pointer, and 21st point. 60-48 Campbell.

6:19 2nd - We start to burn the clock a bit, we've slowed the pace all the way down, Janakowski sinks a jumper with 4 seconds left on the shot clock. 62-48 Campbell.

4:19 2nd - Jarred Brown fouls out, he only saw 10 minutes of action tonight. It doesn't look like its going to matter. 68-52 Campbell.

FINAL:
Campbell 74
Dartmouth 58

Janakowski is obviously the player of the game today. The stat of the game is that Campbell turned the ball over 10 times, DArtmouth 21. That'll do it every time.

December 16th
Campbell(5-4) at Savannah State (1-7)

Savannah State really doesn't have any great players, and, they have two guys injured.

We switch up the starting lineup a bit today, Duane Medford has been injured a lot, we want to get him some playing time today.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

18:39 1st - George Singh has come out hacking... he's got 3 fouls in less than 90 seconds. We've got 4 team fouls. 4-2 Campbell.

12:18 1st - this is an ugly game, not much to say. Hinojosa has 2 fouls now, putting us in a bit of a bind. We've put Savannah State in the bonus, and haven't gotten a shot off in 4 posessions. 14-13 Savannah State

10:18 1st - Duane MEdford comes in at the point guard slot to help out with the foul trouble. Medford gets a dunk on his first play at the point, and he's having himself a fine game, 7 points. 19-16 Campbell.

9:50 1st - Medford with a steal, he feeds Theriault and that's an easy 2! 21-16 Camels.

4:52 1st - Duane MEdford is on fire! He drains a 3 and has 12 points on the day. 28-22 Campbell.

0:52 1st - Conlon has 4 straight points and we've built up a pretty nice sized lead here. 40-29 Campbell.

Janakowski sinks a jumper as time expires, and we've got this one in control.

Campbell 42, Savannah State 29 - HALFTIME

Savannah State has 14 turnovers, we have 10, not good but better than the other guys. Janakowski and Medford each have 12 points and are shooting extremely well.

14:18 2nd - Savannah State is on a slow comeback, they've got it down to 6, and we're not hitting anything right now. 48-42 Campbell.

11:52 2nd - Medford breaks a finger, he's out for a few games... sheesh. 52-46 Campbell.

10:44 2nd - Brown hits a shot, Hinojosa gets a steal and a breakaway dunk, a key 4 point swing that keeps our leadin double digits. 56-46 CAmpbell.

We go ahead and auto sim the rest of the way, and Campbell never let Savannah State get closer than 9 points.

FINAL:
Campbell 75
Savannah State 65

28 turnovers for Savannah State, only 16 for us. Medford put down 17 poitns and was the player of the game.

December 20th
Campbell (6-4) at Iona (5-1)

Iona really hasn't played anyone so I don't know if they're as scary as their 5-1 record would indicate.

PG Donell Carson is just talented enough w/ the ball and when he shoots, that we are afraid he'll run circles around us. SG Jasper Hall is a very talented 3 point shooter.

Medford is starting at the point today, and we're doubleteaming Donell Carson.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG Duane Medford

14:58 1st - Iona is showing signs of dominance but they haven't run out early or anything. After a bucket, Iona's George Nation taunts the Campbell Bench and gets T'd up! Two free throw's and a bucket give Campbell the lead, 8-7.

10:17 1st - We're playing pretty damn well here! Most things are even, but we're shooting 50% from the floor to Iona's 21%, and it's 15-8 Camels.

9:36 1st - NEver mind. Singh gets a steal but he blows the breakaway layup. It takes 30 seconds for Iona to run off 5 straight poitns, thanks to two offensive rebounds and some Camel fouls... 15-13 Campbell.

7:52 1st - Donnell Carson gets hurt. He hasnt' been a factor yet but hey we can't complain about him being hurt (he isn't leaving the game). 19-16 Campbell.

6:15 1st - Medford drains a big 3, he leads all scorers with 7. 24-16 Campbell.

1:22 1st - Iona is on a big 13-4 run. 29-28 Iona.

Hinojosa scores the last 4 points of the half and we take the lead back on the buzzer.

Campbell 32, Iona 31 - HALFTIME

Iona has gotten a ton of offensive rebounds(I cna't see the numbers in the halftime stats). It's only close because Iona is only shooting 38% from the field... we'd better start rebounding the ball better because I can't see that staying so dismal.

Medford has 9 for us, numerous others have 4. Janakowski and Medford each have 5 boards, and Singh has 4 assists.

SECOND HALF

19:17 2nd - Janakowski scores his first points on a 3 pointer. 35-31 Campbell

16:36 2nd - 5 in a row from Iona, the last two on yet another Iona offensive rebound. 36-35 Iona.

16:17 2nd - Timothy Hampton has been in foul trouble all game. 6 minutes, 4 fouls.

15:46 2nd - a big steal by Conlon, and a breakaway dunk put us back ahead by 3, this looks like a very back and forth close finish coming up. 41-38 Campbell.

10:49 2nd - another 2nd chance bucket for Iona. They're outrebounding us by 5, not a huge margin, but damn they're making us pay every time they get 2 chances to score. 49-47 Campbell.

10:16 2nd - Hampton just fouled out, less than 45 seconds after I brought him back into the game.

9:47 2nd - Iona takes the lead, 51-49, they're on a 6-0 run, all 6 points second chance points.

4:52 2nd - We're behind in every way. Iona is outrebounding us by 6, they have 13 steals, and we've committed 8 more turnovers... we're happy to only be down 4. 61-57 Iona.

2:34 2nd - following a rare Iona turnover, Janakowski drains a clutch 3 pointers! 5 in a row for the Camels. 63-62 Iona.

1:03 2nd - Singh misses a layup after a steal! But Iona comes down the court, misses a shot, Janakowski gets out on the run and hits a layup back on our end in transition. 66-65 Campbell!

1:01 2nd - Iona throws the ball out of bounds!

0:43 2nd - Janakowski misses a 3 pointer, Iona has the ball back. 66-65 Campbell.

0:21 2nd - Jack Reinhold draws a charge on a Gervas Hacker drive down the lane!

We try to just play keepaway now.

Iona had only committed 3 fouls in the entire half, and it worked against them. They weren't able to force a turnover, or get us into the bonus in the final 20 seconds. This strikes me as a pretty big win!

FINAL:
Campbell 66
Iona 65

Duane Medford is listed as the player of the game, but Janakowski gets my vote. Janakowski has 16 points and 7 rebounds, he hit shot after shot in the last 5 minutes.

December 24th
Campbell (7-4, 2-2) at Jacksonvile State (6-3, 3-1)

Jacksonville State has 3 guys that average 10+ ppg. PG Joshua Wagstaff is a very good shooter, and we will have to concentrate on shutting him down.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

17:38 1st - We're struggling here, Jacksonville St isn't missing anything, and we've turned it over a couple of times... 10-4 Jacksonville State

14:29 1st - After our first TV timeout(I patched!) We move Medford to SG and Janakowski sits down for a bit. Conlon is in at SF. We'rehanging in there pretty well. 12-9 Jacksonville St

11:57 1st - the 2nd TV timeout... we're really going to be able to stretch our starters a ton longer with this new addition. 15-11 Jacksonville State.

7:49 1st - TV TO! Jacksonville State has really cooled off from the field, we're still hanging in there, but we need a hot streak really I think. 17-14 Jacksonville State.

6:46 1st - Hinojosa breaks the full court press, drives to the hoop, scores and he's fouled! The FT is a big one, it's 19-19!

4:09 1st - We hold up on defense despite allowing Jacksonville State FOUR shots on one posession, and finally Chris Winkle gets a steal. Hampton is fouled and we're in the bonus. Hampton hits both free throws and we're up for the first time today! 23-21 Campbell.

3:19 1st - the last TV timeout. Janakowski hit a 3 a posession ago, and now he's fouled going up for a shot, he hits one FT for four straight points, and it's 27-23 Campbell.

We go back and forth for awhile and close out the half up four.

Campbell 37, Jacksonville State 33 - HALFTIME

The most noticible change in the patch is the TV timeouts. Our starters can all go 15 minutes easy if I want them to now, or more, between TV timeouts and my own TOs.

Janakowski went 5/10 and scored 12 points. Hinojosa is great when we get in the bonus and go to the line a lot, he racked up 7 points for us. Our only foul trouble was Jarred Brown and he didn't see much action at all.

SECOND HALF:

17:04 2nd we turn the ball over 3 straight posessions, and an early lead we built up is gone. 41-40 Campbell.

15:57 2nd - Jarred Brown has 4 fouls now, and he's not contributing much tonight.

11:48 2nd - Lots of missed shots take us to the next TV timeout. 44-43 Jacksonville State

5:54 2nd - Neither team can stretch the lead out more than 2 or 3, in fact, we now have the biggest lead of the half, thanks mainly to Hinojosa, who is tearing it up and driving tthrough the lane and getting a lot of easy shots, he has 15 points. 55-52 Campbell.

4:28 2nd - We've gone cold and Jacksonville State has tied up the game. 55-55.

4:25 2nd - I haven't talked about him much but Joshua Wagstaff, Jacksonville State's big scorer, has put up a great game, 18 points and 6 assists. We're happy that he just picked up his 4th foul. 55-55

2:10 2nd - It's now 59-57 Jacksonville State. Neither team can take advantage of opportunities really... That was the last media timeout.

Our lineup at present is Brown, Reinhold, Medford, Janakowski and Singh.

2:05 2nd - A breakaway dunk for Jacksonville State. 61-57 Jacksonville State.

1:19 2nd - We make 1 free throw out of 2, and then hold Jacksvonille State to 1 miss and done. We've got it back down by 3.

1:05 2nd - Janakowski si going to the free throw line for a 1-and-1, that's 7 fouls on them. Hampton is back in at PF, Hinojosa will finish the game as my point guard. Janakowski drains the two huge FTs. 61-60 deficit.

0:47 2nd - Medford with a steal on a full court press! He and Janakowski work the 2 on 1 break, Jankaowski gets his 20th point and we lead again! 62-61 Fighting Camels.

0:34 2nd - Jacksonville St center John Long scores an easy bucket on us, and we trail 63-62.

0:18 2nd - Jarred Brown drains a jumper from the free throw line! 64-63 Campbell, Jacksonville Staet can go for the last shot if they want.

0:10 2nd Jarred Brown steals a pass on the inside from Wagstaff to Long!!!

0:02 2nd Jarred Brown is fouled. He hits the first, misses the second but Jacksonville State doesn't have time to get off the shot.

FINAL:
Campbell 65
Jacksonville State 63

That was a HUGE road win against a team we felt was signifigantly better than we were.

Hinojosa earns the player of the game.

Mercer(3-7 , 0-3) at Campbell(8-4, 2-2)

Mercer's top scorer is Steven Rigsby, their Power Forward who averages 12.8 ppg/5.4 rpg. His ratnigs aren't very good and we should have a very good shot here.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Tim Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG Cristobal Hinojosa

Hinojosa earns the start today. I am kinda scared of him, he iether scores a ton, or, he drives to the hoop and commits 5 turnovers and misses layup after layup... we'll see how it goes.

14:28 1st - We're off to a slow start, 4 turnovers, and Jarred Brown has 2 fouls already. 10-6 Mercer.

11:50 1st - at The 2nd TV timeout we've made it a 10-10 game, but we have 6 team fouls to just 1 for mercer. We're shooting 66% when we manage to get a shot off.

9:53 1st - We've put Mercer into the bonus for the rest of the half. They miss the front end of the first 1-and-1 though. 14-12 Campbell.

7:20 1st - We're up 16-14, but Brown, Janakowski, and Hinojosa have 2 fouls each.

4:42 1st - Duane Medford scores a bucket and gets fouled! We're up 19-16. Perhaps we can actually break 50 today.

2:33 1st - Janakowski picks up his 3rd foul, and Mercer is on a 6-0 run. 22-19 Mercer.

We score the last 8 points of the half, and are actually on pace for 50!

Campbell 27, Mercer 22

Medford has 7 points, Janakowski 6. Hampton has 5 boards. We've held Mercer to 38% shooting, and that's really the big edge.

14:26 2nd - We've already committed 6 fouls, Singh has 4, Hinojosa 3. The offensive display today is astounding. 29-25 Campbell.

13:13 2nd - Hinojosa commits his 4th foul, and both of our PGs are in trouble. 31-30 Campbell.

11:58 2nd - TV Timeout. Getting 50 poitns is going to be a challenge. Unfortunately, winning the game is going to be as well. 33-30 Campbell.

10:45 2nd - Hinojosa has fouled out of the game. We've committed 9 team fouls. Medford is in for awhile to play the point. 35-30 Campbell.

10:04 2nd - Medford with a dunk, he's got 9 points, and we're lucky Mercer is shoting 47% from the line really. 37-30 Campbell.

6:16 2nd - We had gone up by 7, but Mercer just capped off a quick 6-0 run, and it's 41-40 Campbell.

5:13 2nd - Janakowski commits his 4th foul. Make this an 8-0 Mercer run. 42-41 Mercer.

2:53 2nd - We're in big trouble. 48-43 Mercer.

0:31 2nd - Either team could have run off 10 straight in the last two minutes. Missed shot, travel, travel, travel, travel, missed shot, offensive rebound, missed tip in, missed tip in, defensive rebound, jump ball. 50-47 Mercer.

We've got it with 31 seconds left. Medford hits a quick layup. 50-49 Mercer.

0:19 2nd - I wanted to foul but it never happened... they break the press and get a dunk. 52-49 Mercer.

What crap! I said to go for the 3 pointer the last 2 posessions, and both times we took it in for a layup. That sucked. But I don't hit many 3s, and I did have a chance at least.

FINAL:
Mercer 54
Campbell 51

Mercer started shooting better, we didn't. They got up to 47% to our 43%. We did dominate the boards, 35-23, but we turned it over 6 more times as well.

A very disappointing loss to the worst team in the Atlantic Sun...

I just double-checked and the 3p only option isn't working right. I'll fix it...

Wow, I'm impressed :) I was going to try that option out my next game and report it if I had problems again. Pre-emptive bug reporting! :D

Campbell(8-5) at Liberty(3-7)

This is a game we fully expect to win. No individual standouts for Liberty here, we should match up with them well.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Richard Conlon
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

15:59 1st - We've got a dominant 5-1 edge on the board early, but we really don't have much of an edge anywhere else. 8-6 Campbell.

8:01 1st - After allowing 6 straight points we call a timeout, sub in some fresh players, and turn up the defensive pressure. 16-14 Liberty.

3:00 1st - we've hit the final TV timeout, and we need to rest some guys. We've gone on a nice run though, and lead 27-22 Campbell.

We extend the lead a little more and are feeling pretty good at the half.

Campbell 33, Liberty 25, HALFTIME

Timothy Hampton put up 10 points and is playing one of his best games of the year. Janakowski has 7. Hampton is one of 3 that has 4 rebounds also.

SECOND HALF

19:44 2nd - Jarred Brown picks up his 3rd foul.

18:07 2nd - Jarred Brown picks up his 4th foul. We're so used to playing without him now that we're not going to bother with resting him. 35-27 Campbell.

15:16 2nd - Hampton scores and is fouled, completing the 3 point play after the TV timeout. 42-31 Campbell.

14:53 2nd - Jarred brown fouls out.

11:18 2nd - A little run gives us our biggest lead of the game easily. 54-40 Campbell.

Once we go up 58-40 I go ahead and auto-sim the rest of the game.

FINAL:
Campbell 76
Liberty 55

Janakowski's 17 points, 5 boards and 3 assists is good for player of the game. Duane Medford goes 7-7 from the field in a huge game off the bench.

January Recruiting

We've still landed no one, this is going to be rough.

The only decent recruit left with any interest in us at all is SF Aaron Winfrey. Given his rankings I doubt he's headed to Campbell, but I have to keep trying.

We see some 1 star recruits still interested in us who have good jumpers, or good handling skills, but are pretty one dimensional... at this point that'd be good enough for me.

January 3rd
Mount St Marys (5-5) at Campbell(9-5)

These guys are not a good team at all. 252nd ranked RPI and they have only played two teams in the top 200.

STARTERS
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

18:02 1st - The first bucket of the game, an old fashioned 3 point play with George Singh picking up his 2nd foul already. 3-0 Mt St Marys

17:27 1st - Janakowski has 2 fouls now. Come on guys.

16:00 1st - We just committed our 7th team foul of the half. Jesus Christ. Mt St Mary's has yet to commit a foul. 7-2 Mt St Marys

14:59 1st - Jarred Brown commits his 2nd foul. 9-6 Mt St Marys

13:30 1st - Mt St Marys commits their first foul. Amazingly they argue about it and there's a technical! Hinojosa drains both FTs and Ben Simmons gets a dunk on an offensive rebound. 12-10 Mt St Marys.

10:51 1st - Chris Winkle commits his 2nd foul. That's my top two centers.

8:44 1st - Ben Simmons and Hinojosa have really made an impact coming off the bench today. 14 points between them and it's 24-17 Campbell.

4:43 1st - Hinojosa and Hampton pick up their 2nd fouls, we're going with total scrubs on the court and Mt St Marys is on a 9-0 run. 26-24 Mt St Marys.

Medford goes on a tear before the half, as he should, he's the only guy on the court in our top 7 in the rotation. Medford has 10 points at the half. Ben Simmons has 5 boards.

Campbell 36, Mt St Marys 35, HALFTIME

Players with two fouls:
Michael Theriault (13 minutes)
Jarred Brown (5 minutes)
Timothy Hampton (9 minutes)
Neal JAnakowski (3 minutes)
George Singh (2 minutes)
Cristobel Hinojosa (11 minutes)
Charles Winkle (4 minutes)

Sheesh.

SECOND HALF

This may turn out to be a mistake, but, I am leaving my starters out of the game for now. I'm picking up fouls so fast, I'm going to see if I can't get 5 more minutes out of my scrubs. The starters will return at the 15 minute mark.

2nd 15:00 - good timing. the TV timeout comes. We've held our lead, we've also committed four fouls already. The starting lineup(minus medford, who was in at PG since he was not in foul troulbe) is back in. 42-40 Campbell.

11:50 2nd - Brown has 4 points, and JAnakowski has 6 in the last 3 minutes and we've put a bit of distance between us and Mt St Marys. Singh an Brown did pick up their 3rd fouls though. 52-43 Camels.

9:39 2nd - George Singh commits his 4th foul, and puts Mt St Marys in the bonus. We're still running away with things here though. 56-43 Campbell.

4:54 2nd - It looks like we're going to coast to this win. 62-49 Camels.

We finish things off nicely here.

FINAL:
Campbell 73
Mt St Marys 61

Duane Medford is the MVP of today's game, and definitely well earned. 19 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, and he kept us competitive when the entire team except for Medford had 2 fouls for most of the first half.

Our 38-24 edge on the boards is probably what made this game for us.

Unfortunately, I have to go to the office for a few hours :P I'm hoping to get in some serious good time during NFL football tomorrow though and get through a good chunk of this season. How is this flowing so far? I'm treating it more like a CM dynasty than anything, where I'm playing out the games and reporting the big plays as they happen, which I felt worked really well in CM.

This what I'm finding in my UNC-Asheville dynasty (which seems pretty realistic). My roster consists of a guy with inside game who can play defense, another inside guy who can rebound, a small forward who shoots, and a backcourt with two point guards - one who scores, one who passes more.

It's pretty much all about satisfying your team's needs, which is what real coaches have to do. At low level schools you can't just pick up the most talented guys - there's no reason for them to play for Campbell or UNCA or whatever.

I personally don't read the game reports - they're just too much for me. I might be more inclined to once you get more of your own recruits in there.

But in general I'd say it's a bit too detailed for me.

Do whatever you have the most fun with though, and good luck!

Thanks for the comment RPI Fan! I am hoping to land a couple of these guys as recruits, they're not good, but they'll be a big improvement for what I've got anyway.

I'm going to continue the play by play for now. I'll definitely be coaching the games, I enjoy that a lot, but I'm not sure what form of writeup I'll settle into eventually.

January 7th, 2004
Central Florida (2-11, 1-3) at Campbell (10-5, 2-3)

Based purely on record, we fully expect this win here.

PF Kehoe for Central Florida averages 14 ppg,and SG R Schutz is a solid 3 point shooter, but overall they are very very weak talent wise.

STARTERS:
C JArred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

13:04 1st - Central Florida is committing all the fouls today. We're in the bonus already, and up by 1 after hampton misses the front end of the 1-and-1. 12-11 Campbell.

3:29 1st - a steal and a 3 by central florida gives them their biggest lead... they're shooting 58% from the floor, and outebounding us(we're shooting 53%). 31-27 Central Florida.

Both teams go cold to end the half, we had about 3 chances to tie it up and never could.

Central Florida 33, Campbell 31 - HALFTIME

Janakowski has 10 points to lead us. It's relatively even, the shooting is realyl what we have to work on... Central Florida is shooting .556 from the field, to our 47.8%, we've got to clamp down on defense and we'll win this easily.

SECOND HALF

15:35 2nd - at the first TV tiemout of the half, it's 37-37. Central Florida has cooled off just a touch, down to 53%...

10:53 2nd - Ben Simmons gets a bucket, and he's fouled! He misses the free throw, but gets his own rebound on the miss and goes up for another basket. 49-43 Campbell!

10:27 2nd - Singh with a steal, he misses the layup but Simmons is there again for the tipin. 51-43 Camels.

9:17 2nd - Hampton has fouled out. I brought him back in with 3 fouls at the 10 minute mark, took him 43 seconds to get the last two. Still 51-43 Campbell.

6:08 2nd - After Central Florida cuts the lead to 5, we run off 6 very quick points and have very possibly put this one out of reach given the way things are looking now. 59-48 Campbell.

That'll do it, Central Florida never cut it below double digits.

FINAL:
Campbell 73
Central Florida 57

Janakowski's 12 points and 4 rebounds is good for MVP. Jarred Brown was great today as well, 16 points, 6 boards, andhe didn't foul out!

In the end Central Forida turned it over 23 times to our 14... that number was even at 8 each at the half.

January 10th
Campbell (11-5, 3-3) at Stetson (9-3, 4-0)

We have one advantage here... Steson is hampered badly by injuries and suspensions. They have two guys out academically, one starter out with a broken arm, and FOUR players slowed by day to day injuries.

They are led by C Marcus Thompson, who isn't hurt at all. He averages 16 ppg. They don't have any great jump shooters. Their post defense is very very good, but they suffer on the perimeter. I will try to pound it inside to begin with but won't be afraid to change.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG Cristobal Hinojosa

Hinojosa gets the start today, he's been playing a lot better lately.

18:36 1st - An exciting start! 2 turnovers, and 2 offensive fouls by Stetson, Hampton is 2-2 and Janakowski has a 3 pointer! 7-0 Campbell!

13:36 1st - Stetson is really suffering with their injuries I suppose. They still have not made a single field goal. They're 2-4 from the FT line accounting for all their points. 5 turnovers for stetson to 0 for us. 13-2 Campbell!

11:00 1st - Stetson with a layup, they've hit a FG now. 13-4 Campbell.

1:05 1st - The frustration is showing for Stetson! Their star C Marcus Thompson(who has 10 points btw) commits a foul, and argues it, and gets T'd up! He's got 3 fouls now. Janakowski unfortunately can only hit 2 of his 4 free throws, we're up 27-18.

Janakowski is the man. He has 15 points for us in the first half tonight, and is the sole reason we've held onto this lead.

Campbell 29, Stetson 22 - HALFTIME

Stetson has 13 turnovers to our 4. We have every advantage here, and we have to hope we can hold on to this lead if Stetson starts to play better.

11:36 2nd - We had as big as a 13 point lead with about 15 to go... Stetso is on a huge run, and they've cut it to 2, the closest its been since it was 2-0 Cambpell. 41-39 Camels.

10:13 2nd - After steson cut it to one point, Janakowski drains a huge 3 pointer! 44-40 Campbell.

6:10 2nd - We've taken control again here... 52-44 Campbell.

3:50 2nd - The last media timeout hits us, and we've got this one well under control. But I don't want to say anything until there's 0:00 on the clock. 58-46 Campbell.

Stetson tried, Marcus Thompson absolutely ate us alive, but they couldn't do it.

FINAL:
Campbell 63
Stetson 57

Janakowski is the obvious game MVP. 24 points, 4 boards, 1 assist. Marcus Thompson of Stetson put up 33 points in the loss.

January 10th
A big day in college basketball, it seems like the entire top 25 is in action.
at #16 Virginia 72, Florida State 60
at Wake Forest 72, #15 NC State 59 (two bad conference losses for NC STate this week)
#17 Utah State 64, at UC Irvine 60
Air Force 79, at #19 Utah 57
at #22 St Joseph's 80, Fordham 68
at #25 Temple 82, George Washington 74

at #7 Oklahoma State 81, #10 Texas 72
at #20 Syracuse 90, Georgetown 58

at Mississippi 73, #18 LSU 60

at #4 Arizona 101, #1 UCLA 78
at Arizona State 73, #11 Southern Cal 52
at #9 Stanford 66, Oregon State 52

Two big top 10 battles there today, plus purdue/illinois.

That leaves no top 25 games for Sunday, and lets check out the new poll. I'm amazed to see Arizona not jump to #1, much less not even jump over UCLA after beating them.

Looking in the conference, our huge win over Stetson puts us in a much, much better position than I would have expected at this point of the season. We've probably already met our goal of avoiding last place even if we don't win again, and we even have an outside shot at the conference title or an NIT bid.

January 12th
Campbell (12-5, 4-3) at Belmont(7-8, 3-3)

Belmont is led by SF Thomas Elgin, who has good ratings in all shooting categories, he averages 16.8 ppg and almost 5 boards a game.

Their SG and PG both almost hit 10 ppg as well. We'll just start out in a man to man defense and throw on some doubleteams if we need to.

STARTERS:
C Jarred Brown
PF Timothy Hampton
SF Duane Medford
SG Neal Janakowski
PG George Singh

Nothing really special to report in the first half. Neither team ever had more than a 5 point lead. Janakowski is solid, 11 points, 3 boards. Belmont hits a 3 pointer as the buzzer sounds to end the first half to get their biggest lead of the game so far.

Belmont 33, Campbell 29, HALFTIME

14:33 2nd - Its back and forth but Belmont has now built a 6 point lead and we have to keep the pace here. 47-41 Belmont.

13:44 2nd - 2 turnovers before we even get it over the timeline, and a missed shot... we're in serious trouble. Belmont gets a bucket on a foul, the free throw is no good, but they get the offensive board and the goal, and that's a very quick 8-0 run. 55-41 Belmont.

The lead hits 17 and we auto-sim... oy, wow.

FINAL:
Belmont 77
Campbell 56

Not much to say about that one. We let Belmont shoot 60% and we shot 38%

I think it works well. I read the game logs and am enjoying the dynasty. Keep up the great work Radii!
