should Brock Sheriff be born again ?

One of the legendary Quarterbacks in FOF history, Brock Sheriff is retired and happy where he is in Hall-of-Fame land...HOWEVER, with the upcoming release of Total Pro Football and its customization : I wonder if that would be a good idea to "recreate" Brock Sheriff in this game...

(my early call is NO, but I'd like your feedback)

cthomer5000 10-10-2003 08:55 AM

Have you ordered a Sheriff jersey from NFL.com yet?

Bee 10-10-2003 08:56 AM

Where's the trout option?

Darkiller 10-10-2003 08:57 AM

I should :-)

by the way, take a look at his REAL 49er jersey:

You've encouraged me to start back up my FOF4 playing again.

HornedFrog Purple 10-10-2003 11:27 AM

No way. You will start comparing them. Leave the legend alone.

mckerney 10-10-2003 11:59 AM

No. At least not unless he goes up against Dean Houston.

bump

thanks for the votes guys.
I need more answers from you !

RPI-Fan 10-11-2003 04:27 AM

If 18-6 isn't a big enough margin for you, I'm guessing you're desperately looking for a reason to bring him back...

In which case, by all means, do so.

Swaggs 10-11-2003 09:51 AM

Brock Sheriff Jr is the way to go.

Senator 10-11-2003 10:13 AM

Don't mess with a legend. Let him tell his stories in the comfort of time.

Karim 10-11-2003 03:06 PM

No way. Let some other player try and replace the legend...

korme 10-11-2003 03:14 PM

Let the legend live on, don't recreate and give him a chance of failure.

Vince 10-11-2003 03:32 PM

Ok, we all know about Brock Sheriff and Dean Houston...anyone else have any 'legendary' players from their FOF careers that stand out in your memory? I think it might be cool if we could somehow field a team of FOF 'legends' and let them romp a league by using the player editor...

Personally, I had one Moe Ellard, from my first ever San Jose State dynasty in TCY. He wasn't supposed to be all that good (mid 60s-low 70s), but he made 2nd Team All American at Safety as a freshman, and then was a 1st team All-American the rest of his career at SJSU. I always wish I had saved the export the year he graduated...I wanted to see if he became anything in FOF. However I didn't have FOF at the time, so it seemed a worthless gesture.

Darkiller 10-11-2003 06:23 PM

The "jury" has posted 31 votes for NO out of a panel of 40.
This shows very clearly that Brock Sheriff is a FOF legend who must remain attached to FOF, and FOF only.

Thank you for your time on this. I appreciated your opinions.

Darkiller 10-11-2003 06:24 PM

Brock appreciates as well and is glad to stay retired in FOF-land :-)

There ones was this linebacker who kept unretiring and racking up all league 1st team selections with his tackle totals.

And then there was that 'Paddy' Schwimmer guy, wasn't he that legendary Village Challenge running back?

Pumpy Tudors 10-13-2003 06:15 PM

It's been a long time since I played any FOF games, but just looking at Brock Sheriff's yearly stats, most of the seasons aren't really THAT great.

Then again, I don't remember how quarterbacks tended to perform in FOF2, so maybe by comparison, that is something really special.

Am I out of my tree here?

illinifan999 10-13-2003 06:38 PM

Just curios, how did you get the jersey with Brock's name on it? Photoshop?

Bonegavel 10-13-2003 06:40 PM

Not to be too goofy, but I think if you make him live on in TPF, you will cheapen his legacy and he will never live up to your expectations. And, if you keep using him in different games, will you ever remember why he stuck out in the first place?

panerd 10-13-2003 07:04 PM

I don't know anything about Sheriff, but I just voted YES to try and create some controversy. That page was pretty cool though. This may be a real dumb question, but seeing as I have never played long enough in FOF to get any players in the hall of fame does the e-mail come with the name circled or is that photoshop also?

WussGawd 10-14-2003 12:24 AM

Brock Sheriff has a trout in his rectum.

Darkiller 10-14-2003 05:41 AM

Panerd : I circled his name myself :-)
Illifan : yep, I used Photoshop. very easy to do.

Pumpy Tudors :
Well I agree that his All-time career rating is very good, not great (would rank #2 alll time in the NFL actually, so that's pretty good over 16 years) and that his completion % is under what 49er QBs use to have although I use a little variation of the west coast offense with my offenses.

However, one can't deny the multiple MVPs, the 10 SuperBowls, the 11 all-League awards (including 9 1st-team) etc etc..

I'll tell you something : when Brock Sheriff was quarterbacking my team, I had no fear. I KNEW we would win, no matter what. Too bad 4th quarter comebacks are not taken into account in FOF2 because he had quite a few (ala Peyton Manning with 20+ points with under 5 minutes to go...)

He was truely AMAZING.

Don't forget Chuck U.

SI

illinifan999 10-14-2003 05:51 PM

How did you get the same kind of font for the name on the jersey? I'm still a photoshop noob, and am stuck with using normal fonts.

revrew 10-14-2003 06:49 PM

Okay, break it down like this:

Brock Sheriff's playing days are over. The endorsements still trickle in, but does he really need the money? At what point do you start to feel like a George Foreman media-whore? He's already in the HOF, and his records can't be added to, only beaten. He's sowed his oats, had his career, and gotten the glory. What's left? Eventually, sooner or later, the dude's gonna die. And if that's the next hurdle to face, a person has to ask, "Should I be born again? Or just let this body die without a well-based hope for the afterlife?" Given the ol' Pascal's wager, I'd suggest Brock Sheriff go ahead and be born again. Of course, you had to know revrew would arrive at that opinion.

Go with Brock Sheriff, Jr.

How did Sherriff's replacement do over the course of his career? Any updates on this?

Kodos 09-14-2005 01:32 PM

And is Brock trying to get off of the drugs?

Here is a little update :
After Brock's retirement the team went into something like 5 years where we weren't settled at the QB position and had a couple of losing seasons.
Then we drafted a QB in the first round but he never could gain an opportunity to start because he ended up being stuck behind a veteran journeyman who resurected his career in San Francisco.
That guy was Kennedy Farr and he had been in the league for 11 or 12 years went we signed him as an (unwanted) UFA. He was brought in to play one or two years before letting the 1st round pick take the reins but ultimately, Kennedy Farr got the job done. Big time.
He wasn't flashy, it wasn't pretty, but he managed to lead the 49ers to 5 straight NFC West Titles and 3 SuperBowls in a row. When he was done, somehow, I had lost my trust in the former 1st round pick and dealt him to Green Bay. In the meantime I had used the #8 overall pick the year before on yet another QB : Eric Misner, out of Pittsburgh University.
Misner went on to have a Hall of Fame career of his own, winning multiple SuperBowls, and MVP awards.

We "Almost" pulled a Montana-Young dynastie with Hall of Fame QB. "Almost" because there was a 10-year gap between Brock Sheriff's playing days and Eric Misner's.
