OT - Andy Bellin's Poker Nation
I just finished this book - a pretty refreshing, fairly well-written piece that's a mix of poker concepts, stories, and a little bit of analysis. Recent release (so it's timely) and very worthwhile, I think - for those around here interested in that sort of thing.
Here's a link to the book on Amazon. I found it at my local library - you might, too. Not super-deep analytical stuff, but a worthwhile read. His section on tells is both entertaining and potentially useful, I think. Worth a look. |
I just started it. If you like this, you might like "Positively 5th Street" by James McManus. It's his story of how he took a $5000 book advance and used it to win his way into the World Series of Poker.

Great book, I read that on my recent Poker book binge. :)
If you want just a straight novel on poker, try Shut Up and Deal, it's strangely hard to put down. It's not a teaching book by any means, and there's actually no plot, but I found I couldn't stop reading it. Positively 5th Street was a pretty good read also, and I'm reading through Big Deal by Anthony Holden now which seems to be pretty good. I'm almost out of non-teaching Poker books to read, getting worried. Also as an fyi, I picked up Poker Nation from that Bookcloseouts.com site that was listed on here earlier, think it was like 3 bucks...save ya some cash from buying it on Amazon. |
I read Shut Up and Deal a few years ago - and agree that it was a pretty good read. I probably ought to give it another spin now, as my footing is much better than it was when I read it.
I have Positively Fifth treet on my reading table, but I don't know if/when I will get to it. I think I need to be reading about something other than poker. Maybe I can get some momentunm back with Cryptonomicon? |
