What type of GM are you, what's your focus ?

What's your style ?
Offensive minded ? defensive minded ? on which player do you build your team on ? etc..etc..

Mysefl, I cleary have an offensive approach (west-coast style offense). I place a huge emphasys on the QB obviously who has to be the team leader, being able to carry the team on his shoulders. He's very instrumental in the eventual success of my teams.

On defense, I focus on Defensive Ends and Cornerbacks to have a good mix of pass-rush and pass-coverage with hopefully big plays coming from both (which would result in sacks & interceptions).

So to sum-up, and without revealing "anything that should be hidden to my future competitors" :) I'm a west-coast offense GM and will apply that to my team (as I've always done in my FOF careers AND my TCY careers)

I had to edit this. It was my 1500th post and it was lame.

I couldn't let #1500 suck that bad.

Not that this one's any better, but .....

HornedFrog Purple 10-22-2003 04:12 PM

Defense... defense.... defense... Offense is just a way to get my defense back on the field.

Running the ball is my gameplan. Passing the ball has a 1/3 chance of doing anything productive. :)

I heart HFP.

Good old Woody.

I like to think of myself as a Shula or Parcells type guy. If my team is better suited pounding Joe Morris in the middle 25 times, I'll do that. If it's better off having Bledsoe throw for 4,000 to get to the big game, I'll do that.

I'll see what my talent is suited for and develop a game plan and strategy around that.

I won the FOFC ALL-TIME challenge by building up a strong O-Line and running game to go with a terrific defense. I'm not against going the other direction.

GrantDawg 10-22-2003 04:32 PM

I'm a smashmouth guy, but I'm not totally adverse to the pass. More balanced, I guess. Call it a "ball-control" offense and a strong defense.

Samdari 10-22-2003 04:36 PM

Bad. I am a very bad GM.

Fritz 10-22-2003 04:38 PM

I'm the type to comment on the UPS drivers legs.

Kodos 10-22-2003 05:07 PM

I believe if you get the right 2nd-string punter, the sky is the limit.

And Fritz, you're right: he does have nice legs.

albionmoonlight 10-22-2003 05:27 PM

I am a socialist GM, by which I mean that I will make my general admission tickets all $1, while I will charge 10,000% the league average for corporate skyboxes.

Stick it to the man; power to the people.

TroyF 10-22-2003 05:34 PM

A second punter is one of my top priorites.

Its all about field position. And blitzing. And making those West Coast Offense pussies renounce their god.

Bill Walsh forever man!

Two words.

Jim Mora.

My plan is to get the most talented players year to year and lead them to the depths of mediocrity.

cuervo72 10-22-2003 08:04 PM

I am a Chevy Chevette GM. With rotting floorboards and a "drop" ceiling, driver door panel missing and a hatch that won't lock. And a sunbleached hood.

Preference draft: Punter #1. Hell yeah.

Chief Rum 10-23-2003 02:42 AM

Speed. Quickness. Aggressiveness. Hard-hitting.

That's my style. Big safeties who hit like tons. Shut down cornerbacks who take chances. Sideline-to-sideline linebackers, and quick, shifty d-linemen. On offense, a versatile, multi-option style of attack, with a balance of run and pass. Think the Rams, but with a slightly stronger emphasis on the run, and with a longer passing attack.

Go big (and good) on offensive and defensive line above all else and pound out the ball on the ground.

I always did something similar. I would have the lowest ticket prices in the league, and absurdly high luxury box prices.

Blackadar 10-25-2003 08:00 PM

Speed never has an off day, to quote Jimmy Johnson.

I like the ball-control run game on offense and a good shutdown corner in the secondary so I can stick 8 in the box and not get burned on the long ball. A fast free safety also helps.

Buccaneer 10-25-2003 08:02 PM

What kind of GM am I? Whatever the Recommend button gives me(and it better be good). Other than that, scrictly front office.

Ok....

I'll give you credit for hounding Bucc with more subtlety than Shorty with Franklin(noble) ;)

...and how I hope that there is enough randomness so I can laugh at all those spending too much time micromanaging with very little to show for it.

[hey, only took one day to come up with that! What happens when I completely ignore that 9 yr old glue-sniffin' punk]

I want to be in Bengalneer's division.

In all seriousness, if the human can't improve his fate significantly by game planning himself as opposed to letting the AI handle it, then what is the point of even having the D-I-Y feature in the game?

But if you just focus on hiring a coach (or coaches) with good play calling skills shouldn't that theoretically be an equalizer?

I'm guessing that someone is going to put together some repository for various styles of gameplans, so Bucc can just grab one for the run and shoot and be done with it. ;)

Good call.

Buccaneer 11-10-2003 10:10 AM

I just take a look at the real NFL. The best team on paper with a solid gameplan does not always win. Perhaps the odds are in their favor but there are (and should be) equalizers and randomness in there (good call, cuervo).

I fully believe that such a D-I-Y feature should be in the game for those that want to do it. BUT, I also expect that the AI should do nearly as well for those that doesn't want to do it.

All this talk about importing gameplans is irrelevant, I think. A gameplan should be based solely on the team's personnel, abilities and experience. No other team or some generic gameplan can take the details of my team into account. I think the AI can do a good job in factoring all of those variables, which is why I prefer that there are buttons (or a list) saying what type of scheme I prefer - using my personnel, abilities and experience. For example, my run and shoot would and should look differently than another team's run and shoot. Does that make sense?
