This is a little disturbing.

It's one thing for you to cut Dubya's signature from a letter... it's another thing to do it do something George Washington signed. Couldn't you just make the insert redeemable for entire document, rather than cutting up a piece of history?

I also wonder what president will go for the least amount of money on Ebay. I'm guessing Millard Fillmore, John Tyler, or Herbert Hoover.

One of the big firestorms recently is that Donruss paid over $250,000 for one of three remaining game-used Babe Ruth jerseys. The will (or already have) cut it up in tiny pieces so they can put them on card inserts. :mad: :mad:

Since I am now back in the hobby/business, my hatred for anything produced since the 1990s, esp. inserts, have grown tremendously.

Yup, I don't know if I'll ever bother with anything from the 90's on either. I hope someone can stop Donruss from doing this, but I doubt it. Hopefully they'll come to their senses, and have game inserts in a contest to win the uniform rather than chopping it to bits.

Oh, as for the presidents, howabout Polk, Buchanan and Van Buren?

Ok, seems most everyone is against this but, look at it on the other side.

If you have a contest to win Babe Ruth's jersey, there is absolutely no way the average person is going to be able to keep it. The tax alone will probably run, what, 60K on the jersey so, the person will be forced to sell it to someone that is going to put it in there own place and no one will see it anyway.

The practice of taking old memorabilia allows the average person to own a part of such an item that they normally would never ever be able to afford.

Having said that, items that have historical significance shouldn't be chopped up. (Say if it was Babe Ruths jersey that he wore in his last game or Lou Gehrig's jersey that he wore during his speech).

Having a jersey swath really does nothing for me. I'd rather have a chance to win the contest and pocket the money from selling the jersey.

Reminds me....the mother of a friend in college won a Delorean in a contest. She couldn't afford to keep it.

Well, I'd put this in the no shit category. I'd rather have $200K than a swatch. I'm talking general here... cutting up the jersey can allow hundreds to 'enjoy' owning a piece of it instead of just one McFarlane.
