Football Playbook
 

I recently saw a few plays from the Tampa Bay offensive scheme. Now, I consider myself pretty well versed in the plays and schemes and what they mean, but this was pretty intense.

Does anybody know where I can get a deeper knowledge of professional plays? Ebay has some pretty good playbooks for sale, but I thought some of you guys might collect this stuff.

When I began my interest in American Football, a friend of mine got me some old books from a trip to the US.

Even the 70s books where already verfy educational for me. Stunts, Slants, etc...

In high school we had this play:

14 veer on ready

In college we had this play:

I Right Z out Y 90 comeback

In the pros they have this play:

Flip Right Double X Jet 36 Counter Naked Waggle at 7 X Quarter

that is the playbook I am looking for.

The Naked Wiggles book is due out early 2004.

But I need Naked Waggle now.

I think we should try to decipher this :)

It is not really the plays that differ that much, it is the linguistics. That is why you need a cryptologist to decipher a pro playbook.

You might be able to find a playbook for a certain game from years ago, but getting an actual team playbook is next to impossible. They guard those things like Fort Knox.

I have seen one for about 5 minutes and it was 800 pages in a binder.

I've found those books that are filled with "plays" like the one Troy posted are not worth the price. As long as you have a good knowledge of formation and strategy, the playbook itself is pretty elementary. As Frog said, it's really just a matter of terminology. If you were to just look at the name of the play, you'd be lost in a pro playbook, but if you just looked at the diagram, you'd know what they were doing.

They use nutty terminology for things so that no one knows what they are going to do. If the quarterback said "I-36 Trap"...the defense would know (say he said it loud enough fro someone on the defense to hear or had to call it as an audible)
