Vegas Shows
I'm heading to Vegas this weekend and the beginning of next week for Comdex. Besides the tech stuff I figure I'd attend a show or two. Any recommendations? I've already seen "O" and Blue Man Group.
And Cheetahs/Crazy Horse don't count as shows. |
Seigfried and Roy has gotten a lot better recently... seeing a guy get mauled by a tiger live on stage is worth my money!

What's that famous Vegas show where everyone in the front row wear raincoats? You know, where you have to bring a plastic tarp to hold in front of you so that you don't get soaked?
Oh, right, Sigfried and Roy. I hear that one's good. Edit: dammit, too slow. |

Those are more of activities then shows. |
I'm not sure if it will be ready but I heard there will be a new Siegfried and Roy show soon.
Its called the Siegfried and Ro Show. Its Ro because part of Roy is missing. Wocka, Wocka! |
Two words: Olympic Gardens. Fun for the whole family.
Actually, Lance Burton is solid, if you like magic. If you like cheesy cheap shows, then Viva Las Vegas is not bad. Otherwise, Bottoms Up is very poor. Very, very poor. Well below average. |
I take it that the time limit on abstaining from Sigfried and Roy jokes has passed :D

There was never a time limit. When you get paid millions of dollars to play around on stage with live tigers while wearing a ridiculous codpiece, it's open season, baby. |
I highly recommend: Viva Las Vegas (look for the buffet, show and drink deal coupons for a real bargain ... I think I paid $15 or so). It's a daytime show at Stratosphere. It's a variety show, with comedy, magic, showgirls, etc.
Another bargain is the Mac King Comedy Magic Show. Again, look for coupons that will get you in with the purchase of a drink or two. He's hilarious and pokes fun at the higher priced acts on The Strip. Be sure to arrive early, as it fills up fast. Honestly, many of the daytime and buy a drink shows aren't too bad for the money. There are several more downtown and I believe another at Rio. In terms of the mainstream shows, I enjoyed Danny Gans. At $90-$100 a seat, it's pricey. But he's probably one of the best impersonators on the Strip. Rather than go for looks, he impresses you with his voice. You don't need a good seat at this one. It's best to sit in the cheap seats, close your eyes, and imagine you're listening to the real Frank Sinatra, Sammy D, Nat King Cole, George Burns, and a host of others. I also have enjoyed Second City. If you are a fan of Saturday Night Live, SCTV, In Living Color, and sketch comedy in general ... this show is excellent. I paid about $30. It's a smaller showroom, very intimate, and they try to get the audience involved. Regulars will tell you it's never the same show two nights running. Other shows I'd like to see, but haven't despite good vibes: Celine, BMG, Lance Burton, Steve Wyrick, O, Mystere, and any of the other Cirque shows. Showgirls wise there is Crazy Girls, Jubilee, and Follies. There's also a Showgirls of Magic show. Put it this way -- Vegas entertainment is top notch and no matter what show you see you're sure to be well entertained. |
Great, thanks for all the feedback guys.

Have fun. If you're into thrill rides, there are plenty of those. I believe there is a new one atop the Strat Tower. Also, I believe the new TI pirate show opened.
|
I can't believe no one has mentioned Penn and Teller. Don't they do a show in Vegas? They would be awesome to see imho.
|
Mystere, if you liked "O", you should love Mystere.
To answer Wasabiak Penn and Teller are almost always playing at the Rio. Oh and it is a very good show. |
I've also heard that Mystere is fabulous.
|
I second Penn and Teller if they are in town. That is a must see. If Don Rickles or Rodney Dangerfield was in town, I would do that too, but I have not seen them before, but it seems like a "Vegas show" to watch.
