mrskippy's Substitute Teaching Dynasty

As some of you may or may not be aware, I'm currently a substitute teacher and working on earning my teaching credential.

Once I pass subject matter (English) testing in January and March, I'll qualify as an intern and should have an easier time finding a job. There is a shortage of English teachers in this area and I'm being encouraged to apply.

I started subbing the first week of October and have slowly picked up more jobs each week since. I've subbed every grade K-12. At the junior high and high school level, I've had math, English, PE, science, peer counseling, student leadership, drama, and tomorrow I will teach music. I was supposed to have my first social studies class today, but the teacher decided to come to/stay at work.

Just for fun and to perhaps pick the brains of others who may have or currently are subs, I'm going to post positive and negative incidents from time to time, to gauge insight. Full-time teachers also can contribute.

Doubtful I'll post every little thing, but there have been days (both good and bad) that would be fitting for a dynasty.

Also, from time to time, I'll add how the search is going for a long-term or full-time job.

Sorry, no can do man. However, you may find a picture of me floating around. One girl snapped my photo while I was teaching the other day.

I think I can speak for Franklin when I say that unless you are a 17 year old Catholic school girl we care not for your picture.

Some of the ESL students speak better English than native English speaking students.

Of course, I'm looking forward to getting an ELD class. I've had a chance to observe a few of those. They do lots of fun stuff, besides the typical book work.

Besides that, I'm looking forward to working with the Honors and AP English students. I've subbed a few of those. You give them an assignment and it's amazing how quiet the room gets.
