How to read Ratings?

Very first FOF game so bear with me here. I tried a search but couldn't find what I wanted.

I see people saying their QB was 22-32... How do I read that. The 22 is what he is and the 32 is what he COULD do? Is that for THAT season potential, or what he COULD do in his career. Also.. if there is a big gap between those two numbers should you not rely on that?

You're right. 22/32 is the rating taken from the "Team Roster" screen, when sorted by " Scout Overview." The first number is Current Estimate of your scout, and the second is Future Potential (for his career). In the most previous version of FOF before 2004, there were times when big gaps between Current and Future did not pan out. I haven't played this version enough to know if that is still the case, but I would assume that it is so.

22 would be his current scout rating and 32 would be his potential scout rating. The potential is for his career. Having a big gap isn't a big deal, just means the guy has room to grow and that it might take a little longer for him to reach his full potential.

Also, if your starter is 22/32, you might want to start looking for a replacement. ;)

Unless it's the first year of an OPU, when the guy would probably be All-Pro. :D

Back on topic, in past versions of FOF (from 2002 on back), a guy would reliably hit his potential in 3-5 years, unless he was injured or the coaching/scouting was terrible.

That's much less true for the latest version. A 10 point split isn't too bad, but I've grown wary of guys with ratings like 8/60. Five years later his ratings could end up something like 18/21, which is basically worthless. Potential can erode pretty quickly these days.
