I kept telling myself, I will stand strong and not get FOF2004 as my boycott for no TCY2 until later. ;) Now you guys get me drooling with all your stories and how much fun you're having. Now I want FOF2004. So I go and sumbit so I can get the $5 coupon, and go to see the mailing address/phone number so I can order it. (Mom is religiously against putting CC on the internet) So I make my way to payment and :( only credit card options. Please tell me I am blind and there is an obvious place where money orders/phone orders can be placed.

sorry, you have wonderful eyesight. You need to pull your mom out of the stone ages and pay for it with CC.

Damn......:(

Ask your mom if she's ever used her credit card at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, or any other major retailer.
If so, tell her that the store probably uses the Internet to send the authorization. Actually, they probably send the check information over the Net too. I believe it was Best Buy that used wireless Internet to send data from its checkout stands to the stores central computer. However I believe they stopped doing this after some fears about intercepting wireless. Though they may be doing it again. The point is, most retailers are using some form of Internet to process credit card and checking transactions. Why do you think you get that catalog from the store? The data from the mag strip can put you on their mailing list too. Also, next time your mom uses a standalone ATM tell her to listen. She should hear a dialtone, than the sound of the modem. Meaning -- it's probably Internet connected too. |
Also mention that the kid at Best Buy swipping her CC is more likely to steal it then an automated computer.

Hmmmm....we'll just have to see if that might work. Thanks guys.

She got quiet, and she hasn't brought it up since. |
And if I'm afraid of my mom....? ;)
I think I'll ask my dad. ;) |

Shop the Web without the worry -- companies reduce cardholders' liability By Jenny C. McCune • Bankrate.com To entice consumers into buying more products and services online, credit card companies such as Visa International and MasterCard International Inc. are beefing up fraud protection and switching to zero liability, meaning that if someone fraudulently uses your card and racks up a big bill, you don't have to pay a penny of it. What's this internet thing?
Alternatively, some CC companies offer one-time use credit cards. I know Discover does. |

Oddly though, discover's are only available online. For purchase with..... A CREDIT CARD! I think someone missed the point. |

Yeah, not to mention those shady Olive Garden waiters... :p |

Hey, I've got a friend that works at the 'Shroom! And she's nearly 30, not 19! The pothead part's about right though. :) |

Ahh yes, how I remember the Mellow Mushroom fun....and Felini's in Buckhead...I would worry about my card there as well! |
You don't even have to use the CC (internet or in person) to have it stolen. For every story of Russians hacking CC company DBs, there are many, many more that are never reported. Just make sure you see the lock on the status bar and click SEND!

What the hell is Mellow Mushroom?
|
You sure it's not the "Magic Mushroom"? *snicker*
