trading picks when in "cap hell"
I am currently in my jets game in 2006 and am in cap hell. Some people may say this is due to my bad cap managment skills, (I signed peyton mannin in the second season, and taking a $17m cap hit a year!), but I like to say that its just unfortuante :D.
Anyway, for the last 2-3 years i have only been 10k above the cap limit, on a bare roster and no chance of signing anyone else. So I simply trade all my draft picks for the draft picks of another team for the next year. Presuming I can finally spend some money in 2007, I will have 3 first round picks, 5 second round picks, 4 third round picks, and five other later round picks. The 2007 draft better be a good year for talent! :D Fran |
holy cow! let us know how the draft turns out.
|
ok, my have a slight problem in the 2006 season. I have 400,000 in cap to spend. I have 38 players :D
Time to use that cap out feature on manning ;) |
Just release 10 starters and use the draft picks to replace them. :) You don't need much of a team to win with Manning anyway ;)
|
Cap out = cop out, Franny ;)
|
I'm in 2005 and Charles Rogers is holding out for 17 mil per year.

2007 season, still in cap hell :( I keep on being told that next years cap loss in $0, only to go into the next year and suddenly have a cap hit of a few $m. Anyway I couldn't afford (again) to get anyone on my draft, so my 3 1st round picks were going to waste.
Until. I noticed I had the 1st and 2nd picks!!! So, in 2008 (if I ever get to spend some money!! :( ) I wil have 7 (yes seven) first round picks, 8 second round picks, and 11 other picks. In 2009 I will have 3 first round picks! Hurray D: |
Just curious, how are you doing in the standings?
|
My last season was 9-7 so too bad, the only I have had when I didn't have any cap troubles was 5-11.. so I have got better ;)
|
Is it possible to get into such cap hell that you would never be able to afford to field 46 guys, even at the league minimum? I guess Francis may find this out.
|
I don't think 7 first round picks will really help your cap situation.
|
Bonegavel: I guess it would be possible, but lets not try to find out ;)
Cthomer5000: Thats tnot the point!! :D |

It definitely is. My guess is you wouldn't be able to sign guys, but if you changed your settings to "allow staff to sign players" that it would ovveride the cap issues in order to field a team. |

Asking the cpu do contracts definatly overrides some of the settings, for example I had an offensive coach who wanted around $3m but was told my owner would't allow me to spend $3m. When I asked the cpu to sign an offence coach the same guy was signed from $3m |

I had the same thing happen. we should report that as a bug actually. |
I thought that at a certain point minsal guys didn't count against the cap?

I think that's only in preseason. I believe only your top 53 salaries count against the cap. |
heh - I'm about to get out of "cap hell" in 2010. I should have around $50m spare in cap money.
I have 20+ 1st round picks, and 20+ 2nd round picks! :D :D |
How the bloody 'ell can you afford to pay 40 draft picks?
I guess we can call you the College All-Stars ;) |
I 2010 don't most first round picks demand like $5M, so he's only going to be able to sign 10 players
|
Talk about cap hell. I have to resign Bryant McKinnie and Kevin Williams while improving my defense. Oh, and add two top 15 picks in there as well.

Paul Tagliabue: "With the first 20 picks in the 2010 draft, the Arizona Cardinals* select the following guys: ..." *And they'd still probably screw it up. |
