License vanished?
I double-click to sneak in a little mid-morning FOF2k4 & instead of opening nice & neat like usual, I get the licensing screen (like right after an install).
Problem is, I haven't unlicensed, tinkered with the files or done anything else except play the game since licensing it. However ... I notice that a number of files in the game directory are now associated with a program called "Ultra PDF" (that's the icon that's showing) but are still listed as "text documents" that should be opened with Notepad. Among those files is one named "receipt" which I suspect may have something to do with my elicense. (elicen40.dll appears to be fine btw) So, I don't believe I can unlicense something that isn't being read as licensed (in order to avoid losing a license). But I can't play without(re)licensing the game. I suspect that my wife scrambled some file association or made some other mess while working on this comp this morning, but without knowing what she did & how she did it, I don't really want to start experimenting either. Bottom line -- anybody want to take a shot at why my game isn't recognizing that it's already been licensed? And how can I fix whatever's wrong? Thanks in advance, Jon |
I would rename the receipt file to receipt.old or something, then copy its contents into a new text file and save that with the correct name.
Then go into file associations and associate text files with notepad. Then fire up the game. |
FWIW, I tired Subby's suggestions (which was pretty much all I could think of too) & nothing helped.
I went through ViaTech's support form, explained the situation, they reset my licenses to two, I re-licensed & all is apparently well, right & good with the world. Except for my defensive, which still gets torched too often late in games. |
This is why I used the offline licensing option. I now have the .txt file to paste into that opening screen should this ever happen to me.
