Staff hiring No coaching changes, I considered changing offensive coordinator for a long time, but finally decided to stay put. Scheduling Code:

Freshman classCode:
Vitale, Eric 12 QB Fr 6-3 203 Holland Patent, NY - Holland-P
Summary: the defense got a lot of help in this freshman class. Cobb and Vitale should get busy offensive roles as well in the future. |
RosterCode:
Player # Pos Elig Current Estimate Future Estimate There's no doubt that Marzullo is the starter. We have a lot of talent on this position, almost too much of it. Code:
Barnes, Morris 10 RB Sr* 54 54 Barnes started last year, but I'll probably go with O'Donnell this season to give us a better pass receiver out of the backfield. He's not as likely to fumble, either. There's some hope yet for Heath, but he'd better develop soon. Cobb is the future. Code:
Barker, Jerry 35 FB Sr 40 86 Barker is a very good talent that hasn't been able to put it together and starts by default. Gillespie and Fruth could alternate as the starting TE, while waiting for either Gilmore and Bernreuter to take the next step. Code:
Rhodes, Bert 2 WR Sr 58 58 Nice stable of three receivers here with veteran Rhodes, up-and-comer Aikens and the troubled Jones, who only has two starts despite being a redshirt senior. Jones' academic record is dreadful, but somehow he found the grades to make the team, and is Bertram's heir apparent. Donohoe and Lannon gives us very good depth at the position. Code:
Vrabel, Kyle 71 C Sr 73 82 Vrabel is one of the best players on the team and anchors the line at center. Rheams and Tornberg are our guards while James is the left tackle. As usual, we have problems at right tackle. We'll have to go with Harden as there are precious few options. There's some hope for the future in Ellard though. Code:
Riley, Skip 14 P Sr* 65 80 While Riley and Anderson are healthy, there's no worries for the kicking game. Code:
Compton, Steven 96 DE Sr* 33 39 We have no choice but starting unproven sophomores Dixon and Cukro at end, we hope the baptism of fire will make them develop quicker. Luckily we still have Toombs at tackle, or the d-line would be dreadfully bad. He still looks like the second-team All-American he was last year. Code:
Benson, Nathan 58 ILB Sr* 44 48 Inside, we start with Benson and either Tracey, who's adequate, or young Harris, who could be really good. Gray is a solid starter but has to pair with soph Fontaine as Henry is on probation. Code:
Bergmann, Butch 31 CB Sr 47 49 Bergmann and Howe should have been our starting cornerbacks, but Howe is still recovering from last season's knee injury, which means Boyd starts in the meantime. Blumer and Profitt are the safeties, but soph Franz is making a push for playing time. Summary: we should make some noise offensively with our pass attack, but the defense relies a lot (maybe too much) on the young guns. We'd better set our sights low and build for the future, as a lot of talent is on the team already. Freshmen Frasier and Hodgson makes the active roster to provide depth. Recruiting priorities: WR, C, G, Tx2, DE, DTx2, OLB, CBx2, S (12) 4 open positions. |

Good luck with the season!!!:)
|
Finally, I am pretty satisfied with this year Freshmen class. We seem to be recruiting QBs so easily and RBs are so difficult to convince...
An with no Wisconsin game this year, we might still sneak into the playoffs again ! |
|
Ugh. A last minute FG defeat...
|
Go on and start the young guys with the higher upsides, even if their currents aren't so good.
|
Hmm. Now there's a thought. Ogden, Lannon, the Ellard brothers, and the safeties, Franz and Winters, would be the candidates to start then. We are already young at DE and LB.

Alright! "Air Indiana" is here!
|
Woaw ! The young men (Ogden, Lannon) have made an excellent first impression !
|
Great win! Good luck against Illinois!:)
|
Ogden began the game with 10 straight completions for 125 yds and 2 TDs for a rating of 191.82!
|
|
How's Marzullo dealing with Ogden's sudden fame? Has his dad made you an offer you can't refuse yet? :)
|
Sorry about the lack of updates lately, a copy of CM03/04 happened to fall into my mail... damn it's addictive!

Ack, sorry to see the loss to Minnesota :(. Speaking of Minnesota, they've come out of nowhere! I just checked, and they were an unimpressive 4-7 last year.
|
We might still finish with an 8-3 record anyway.
The young guys are already playing very well : Ogden for example. |
:( Tough loss

Ogden's 470 yds passing is a new IU team record, and the fourth-most in Big 10 history. The 28 completions are the second most ever in team history, behind only Leland Berosik's 29 in 2006.

Yep, I didn't see Iowa so strong this year.
|
How long has been since Iowa was even close to this good???
|
Well, Iowa was 1-10 in 2040, 3-8 in 2039, and 7-4 in 2038. They have a couple of 6-5 seasons in the 2030's too. But this has to be the first time they have 8 wins.
|
They were 3-8 in 2041 too.
|
From a pure points for/points against perspective, it looks like Iowa is just getting by. They still haven't played Wisconsin or Northwestern. I see the 8-1 record as possibly being their high-point of the season.

WR Joel Jones' 11 receptions is a new IU team record, topping the 10 receptions made by Amos Allman in 2014 and Herb Bertram in 2040. The 252 yds receiving by Jones is also a new IU team record, breaking Bertram's old record by 7 yards.
|
Are Ogden 398 yards another record ?
|
No, Ogden set the single-game passing record earlier this season in the Ohio State game:

WR Jones, probable, unknown, post-combat stress syndrome.
How didn't I catch this earlier. he contracted this injury after the Ohio State game... |
Quote:
It didn't slow him down much, he finished with 61 catches for 1083 yds and 12 TDs. |
