I've started a new career by using the preference draft. I exploited my old "cheat" by cranking down the potential->experience slider (all potential) and maximizing the starter/reserve slider (all starter). In effect, I end up with an incredible roster of rookies: 10 players with an overall potential of 71+.
First thing I did was make sure all of these rookies were signed to long term deals. However, I now have 11 million dollars under the cap. I'm not looking to win for 2-3 years, so what is the best way to allocate this money? Or will it help me remain profitable through the next few losing seasons?

I would sign a vet QB with talent, and try to actually win some games.

You could just wait it out for a year, see who develops and where your holes may be then go for some big time FA's the next season.

You can sign a FA or two with "flat" offers. Don't give them as much as they want in later years, but give them more than they want initially. That way, their contract stays flat, but--as the cap grows--their cap hit is made less.

Most of the time, I begin much the same way, but not to the extent you do. I agree with the above quote, and add in that you should probably sign some vets who can win games to short contracts with voidable incentives (that way you can sign them and effectively "cut" them the following year if your rookies step up). I would say that playing time is imperative for your rookies to see who busts and booms.
