Do you know anyone in FOF2004 (real players?)
Just wondering, I always find it cool when there is a person I know in a video, or even in pro sports.
If you look for the Seahawks, their backup RB, Maurice Morris, is a guy I knew in high school. When I played freshmen basketball, we used to scrimmage against the varsity team. He was a pretty big guy(strong), but could jump like I've never seen. We used to talk crap to eachother and joke around. I just think its cool that he's in the NFL and in this game. I signed him for the Browns in 2004, and hes developed into my to RB. I just find that cool. (also a girl in the WNBA is from my high school. My dad refereed with her dad, and I've gotten to talk to her before. Nice girl, but she would have made more money taking the Wall Street job instead of playing in the WNBA). |
Nope, I did play basketball against Chris Chambers in high school.
|
I personally do not know any "famous" people whatsoever.
|
Brett Conway and Kerry Collins
|
I know a lot of the cardinals since my father is good friends with running back coach Johnny Roland...none of them are what id call famous(smith is not a card...just a cowboy in a retirement home)...but i know most of those guys
|
Randy Moss, he grew up about 10 miles from where I lived.
I met Jerry Porter, he was good friends with some people I went to High School with. |
I was an assistant strength and conditioning coach while I was a student at Penn State. (1991-1995) I knew McDuffie, KiJana, Kerry, etc. Guys that I was friends w/ though (the few that were actually decent, down to earth guys) Kyle Brady, Joe Jurevicius, and Bobby Engram (also was one of my Anatomy Lab partners and we hacked up a dead cat together for about 16 weeks).

Now you guys are worshiping cellibates ..."Just say no" eh? |
I don't know anyone in football but I played on the same college team as Joel Pinero in baseball.
|
I partied with Keyshawn Johnson in College as we were both seniors at USC at the same time. I also took a freshman class with him (volleyball - I needed one easy fun class - plus the teacher was absolutely gorgeous) He was very egotistical back then as well, but he threw a heck of a party when he graduated (and had signed his 1st contract.)
|
I used to play basketball with Luel Deng (sp?)........Hes a freshman at Duke now, so I'll get back to you in 1-4 years.
|
Tyrone Wheatley kicked my ass in the 100 meter dash in high school.
I played Sega in my dorm room at Michigan State with Tony Banks, Ike Reese, and Flozell Adams. |
nada

I think I've mentioned this before, but I was good friends with Mack Strong (FB, Seattle Seahawks) growing up. I went out with his sister some, and he rode to school with me pretty much every day for two years. (I'm two years ahead of him.) We still keep in touch some.
|
I took a History class with former Texas A&M Aggie and current Raiders punter Shane Lechler. He was a punk who hardly every came to class, and when he did, asked stupid questions. Looked very much like the prototypical jock.

So did anyone ever try to take advantage of Flozell's deaf side and talk smack about him hoping he couldn't hear? |
Chris Jacke went to my high school.
My family was very good friends with Steve Foley's family. (old Bronco's kicker) Scott Turner (CB-S for the Chargers and Redskins a few years back) went to my highschool. I think that's all... |
Quote:
No, but he was so big that he took up the entire hallway when he walked down it. One time I was coming back from class on my roller blades and I thought I could make it into my room before he got to my door. Well, I was wrong, and I ended up skating over his foot. He was not happy. :D |
Quote:
I bet his coach wasn't very happy about it either. I hope for your sake it was in the off season. With that size reference you gave, I guess he was pretty deserving of the Flozell "the Hotel" nickname. |
He was enormous, and I think the coaches had him on a diet. He always had like 5 bowls of salad when I saw him in the cafeteria. I always got a kick watching him ride his bicycle around campus. He was a pretty good guy though. He was always doing his homework and none of the crazy things that went on in the other player's rooms went on in his.

Do you know Jason Williams too? |
Yeah, he still comes back home to play some pick up ball and hang around WV Tech's campus.

Mack Strong is a great FB. Then again, as a Seahawks fan, I'm a bit prejudiced. :) |
I think I just signed Mack Strong in FOF4. Dog, can you put in a good word for me? I need someone to block for Larry Johnson, and help him meet his potential.
|
I tackled Ladell Betts for a loss in a High School game..
I (several years later) had a Class with Chris Redman And Dave Ragone.. Both of which were very bright and friendly |
I used to see Darnell Autry at the 24 hour Burger King near campus, not sure if he's still hanging on in the NFL or not. The only other "name" guy I saw around was Geno Carlisle, such is the state of sports at Northwestern....

That guy had incredible basketball skills. I seriously wonder if there is a player in the NBA he couldn't get to the basket on. His ability to break down a defender was a work of art. Unfortunately he was too short to play shooting guard, and only had an average jump shot. |

Believe it or not, even in Canada this can happen. My wife went to high school with Mitch Berger, Saints punter (formerly Eagles,Vikings,Rams) just outside of Vancouver, Canada. She thought he was a dork, and he always crashed parties. I went to the rival high school a few hears ahead so I didn't know him at all.
For their 10th year reunion, he rented out a night club and had a party for all his friends from high school, so he can't be that bad, although I am sure there was a little ego involved. He was pro bowl a couple of years ago, but he really sucks in FOF2004. |
Quote:
how much ego can he have? he's a freaking PUNTER |
You're oh so right, DD, but it might have had something to do with the fact he probably makes close to 10 times than most of the people who graduated (and in $US too).
|
A friend of mine was a tight end in the original FOF. he has since become um... an unrestricted free agent. His biggest moment was blocking a Broncos field goal attempt when they played the jets in the AFC Championship game.
I also took a class with Lorenzo Neal (probably the baddest dude I ever met) and played intramural basketball against Trent Dilfer |

made. past tense. (I'm not hacking on kickers, Mr Vinatieri, I just think the idea of a kicker/punter with an inflated ego is a little funny). |
I usually sat near Chris McIntosh in a Public Utilities class. Is he still in the NFL?
|
I went to high school with zach randolph..knew him pretty well. He's a dumbass. Stole a gun his junior year...lost the mr basketball because of it. I asked him why he did it...and he said, "I didnt know I'd get caught". I took a class with Jared Jeffries at IU and had one with Antwaan Randle El, never knew him but I knew of him and he was a really good guy.
|
I'm friends with Travis Outlaw of the Portland Trailblazers. He's not a thug like the other guys his team. In fact, he has never touched drugs and alcohol.
Also, whenever we go out into public nobody recognizes him. He has only been approached once for an autograph since I've hung out with him. |

Another interesting fact about Mack is that his mom was a RARITY for the early-to-mid-80's--a black female Republican politician. She moved to D.C. as an appointee with the first Bush team, as a matter of fact. Mack was with me the night in high school that we gave LL Cool J's DJ, Cut Creator, a ride from the concert venue in Columbus to his hotel. The tour bus had left him, and Mack, my brother and I were still hanging out in the parking lot waiting for traffic to clear. Cut Creator walked up and asked for a ride. As 15-to-17-year-olds, that was a BIG night. :D |
...and, like Outlaw, make isn't even remotely a thug. He graduated from UGA in his appointed four years, and is a complete family man.

I named my cat after Flozell Adams. When I heard his name on Thanksgiving day a few years ago thats the first thing I thought of, hey, I am going to name my new cat Flozell. So whenever people ask me my cats name and I say Flozell, they say, WTF? So I explain my 15lb cat is named after a 300+ NFL lineman. Issues, I got some issues. |
I'm friendly with Bennie Joppru, the TE the Texans just drafted this year. I played football in high school with him - one of the funniest kids I've ever met. Gave me a concussion in a practice once...
|
My cousins, who are sisters, are married to Saints backup QB Todd Bouman and John Randle, respectively.
We hang out every Memorial Day. John Randle is one of the shyest, most humble men I've ever met, quite a change from the on field persona you see of him. He and his wife are expecting Twins in the summer. Todd is a nice, downhome guy from northern Minnesota. He is real cool with strangers and his neighbors and the like. He had a few great games here in Minnesota, then was traded and is still waiting for his shot. |
I played on the same travel (AAU) basketball team as Donovan McNabb and Antoine Walker in highschool. Donovan is such a great guy quite different then Antoine who both went to the same highschools. Donovan has even given back to his sschool which shows alot...Also needless to say with Antoine on the AAU team I never saw the ball.....Unless I took it out of the hoop from one of Antoine's guys scoring on him.

Blake Spence? God that game broke my heart. It was the way in which the Jets loss that killed me. All the veterans failed them. Keith Byars, Dave Meggett, and Curtis Martin all fumbled in the second half (naturally, the Broncos recovered all of them). EDIT: For a long time, I virtually had that game memorized. I knew that if I was ever in the bonus round of the failed ESPN game show "2 Minute Drill" that the 98 AFC Champsionship game definitely would have been my focus. Probably my most painful sports memory (as a fan). |
I find it facinating that this thread is about "people who are in the 'real NFL players" version of the FOF game(s)" as opposed to, say, "people in the NFL."
William of Occam, roll over in your grave. |

Which school? |
Blake Spence. I didn't think anybody would recognize. He is a real good guy. He had some potential but never quite turned the corner.
I feel bad about that game too, but mostly because I hate the Broncos. When Blake had enough time into the NFL that teams were required to pay him a higher minimum salary than a rookie (maybe 3rd or 4th year?), he could not get signed. I think if he sat out a year he could then come back at the minimum league salary but I don't think that worked out. I don't know exactly what he is up to know because I am stuck up here in the corner of the counrty and, as my wife says, my old friends and I have an understanding; "I don't call them, and they don't call me." |
("You know Bart Guffleberg from the fictional roster? He's my neighbor!")
I would have loved to be neighbors with Toxic Joe Barclay, an amazing DE who came out of Michigan in a TCY game, and then had a great (but fictional) career. As for the real NFL, I went to junior high and high school with Robert Brooks, the former Green Bay WR. Of course he played RB in high school, and took our team to the brink of the state championship! |
Quote:
I think he caught a touchdown that season too. I remember thinking he looked good in his short stints on the field, and I know he was playing on special teams. I loved him for the field goal block, but never really heard much out of him after that. EDIT: Blake Spence's career stats: 4 catches, 20 yards, 1 touchdown (1999). |
