He told his players at a meeting he will be fired...

astralhaze 12-17-2003 10:09 AM

Shocking

Booj 12-17-2003 10:10 AM

I know, it will be interesting to see how the team will respond.

Nope, industrial type oven.

A Fassel is like a really old bone that has turned to stone that indiana jones tries to find before the Nazis

And it's incredibly inefficient at starting, so it's a big deal to fire up the pilot flame.

WSUCougar 12-17-2003 10:28 AM

A fassel is actually very similar to a fontes. Both have a remarkable resiliency, are prone to wild swings of success and failure, but eventually fall prey to poor performance.

Oh. I've always heard that called a wanny .

I think this post qualifies as dola, but I'm not sure.

The most interesting line: "He has been thought to be a candidate for Arizona's head coaching job if it should become vacant."

Say what?

He's a good coach, he came from Arizona (QB coach there), and they will need a coach. Seems like a good fit to me.

He's overachieved with a lousy Giants team for a while, he definitely deserves another shot somewhere.

ISiddiqui 12-17-2003 03:37 PM

He showed more class than Reeves, who wanted to be fired right then and there. Fassel won't actually abandon his guys.

It's kind of the same thing though. Don't you think the only reason this was announced now is as a result of Fassell?

Co-owners Wellington Mara and Bob Tisch gave him the OK, provided Fassel assure them there was no way the team would quit on him.

Here's a clue Mr. Mara and Mr. Tisch. They already have.

I would say, by their performance, Reeves' "guys" abandoned him in September.

rkmsuf 12-17-2003 03:49 PM

what fool would even consider that type of logic much less accept the answer "sure they won't quit."

You'd think secretly they'd want them to tank for the draft pick.

Maybe that's the genius of keeping Fassel on...

Please dear God no. If Fassel couldn't get the Giants in the playoffs consistently, he sure as heck isn't going to get the job done in Arizona. I'd like to see a young enthusiastic guy take the Arizona job (if there is one opening) instead of this constant parade of older guys who can't get the job done.

And of course, the hottest prospects are just lining up to take that Arizona job.

I think Fassell is about as good as they can do. If you don't want him, Kodos will send Wanstedt your way.

Kodos 12-17-2003 03:58 PM

I've already bought the stamps for it! Just give me an address!

At least he is staying until the end of the year.

Just because they don't have the talent to win doesn't mean they 'abandoned' anything . Ask Keith Brooking if he abandoned the team while playing through great pain.

Keith Brooking isn't the whole team. They got caught up in the Vick hype, got devastated when he went down, and never picked it back up again. They mailed it in - a lost season, without Vick. And, he was pushing their best player to come back early just to save his job. "Screw the coach, he won't be back anyway."

Their QB play was so bad it's hard to judge what happened there...

Ksyrup 12-17-2003 04:11 PM

But none of their QBs played D...of course, very few of their DBs did, either.

They all effect each other. Turning the ball over repeatedly is not good. Having no ability to score is not good. It's some Reeves, some Vickless and some overall talent.

It was an example. Saying the whole team mailed it in is an insult to all the players who played their hearts out. rkmsuf is totally correct, their QB play was so bad, that it affected the defense. When the D is on the field for sooo long they wear down. Remember, the Falcons have lost 5 games that they led at halftime... because the D got totally worn down.

Ksyrup 12-17-2003 04:25 PM

Bah...just let me have my fun with Reeves. I hate that fucker, and I'd prefer to think that the team gave up on him. It's probably a bit of both, IMHO.
