Mens Journal Top 50 Guy Movies
|
Die Hard at #4 may be just a tad high...
|
If anyone just has a straight list, please post it.
|
Fight Club at 20 is the firs t movie I wouldnt even entain to be on a list like this. matrix would not make the list, but I would at least talk about it.
|
No StarWars ???
|
"Certain actors recur frequently. Al Pacino (twice in the top ten), McQueen (twice), Clint Eastwood (three times), Paul Newman (three), Robert De Niro (three), Bill Murray (two). "
Mens Journal obviously does not like John Wayne. Sands of Iwo Jima should be a top 10, IMHO. |

"Guy Movies" |
I'd say I agree with about 2/3-3/4 of the movies, but I'd probably change the order.
Die Hard is becoming my favorite movie of all time. |
Terminator in the top 10? Everyone knows that T2 was better.

I'm not much for movies, but incredibly, I've only seen 10 of these movies from beginning to end. I've seen parts of about 20 of them, and the rest I either haven't seen, don't want to see, or never heard of.
|
They forgot:
Alien/Aliens Pulp Fiction? Lethal Weapon The collected works of Tom Cruise (A Few Good Men, Top Gun, all the right moves) The Magnificent Seven Patton Lonesome Dove (maybe number 1 if it were actually a movie) Braveheart, shouldn't this be near the top of the list? Stalag 17 Saving Private Ryan (is this one too realistic?) Gladiator Sleepless in Seattle (just checking if you are paying attention) |
:There is no spoon" was the best line from The Matrix? Are you kidding me?
|
Quote:
Agree. I was expecting SPR to be No.1 |
Quote:
You had me at Tom Cruise. |
First Blood did not make this list and office space did?
|
Where's Hercules in New York?
|
I would've had to include Blade Runner in this list.
|
I've seen like 5
|
Worst. List. Ever.
Any list of guy movies that doesn't put Caddyshack at No. 1 is just ridiculous. It is clearly the most-quoted and most-revered movie of almost every guy I know. No offense, but I'd call this the list of Best Dumb Guy Movies of all time. Sure, there are some good films in there by accident, but these seem like the chocies of a 42-year-old alcoholic. Star Wars not on the list? Hey, I've been to the midnight screenings of the last two films, and I didn't see too many chicks there. They may be geeks, but they are guys. |
Muscle head list perhaps?
"Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other." |

I've seen 16 of them all the way through. A few others that I have not seen and really really need to(The Godfather(*gasp* I know, how could I have not seen it yet)).
Magnificient Seven is covered by the Seven Samauri I assume. I would have also expected to see Saving Private Ryan on the list. I think Lethal Weapon also belongs... |

Fight Club belongs on the list. Should be in the top 10. |

SPR is a good film, but still over-rated. The Unforgiven is way too low on that list. Best western of all time. |
I agree with Road Warrior, Matrix, Fight Club, Die Hard, etc.
I'd like to know about a few movies - did they miss the list altogether, were they close, did editors debate them? A Clockwork Orange? Pulp Fiction? GHOSTBUSTERS!?!?! Seriously, any movie list that doesn't include Ghostbusters is questionable in my mind. How could you include comedies such as Fletch, Blazing Saddles and Stripes (showing that they did include comedies), but not include Ghostbusters, which is better than any of those three movies. Ah well. -Anxiety |

I agree with Gladiator and Stalag 17, great films. And Braveheart is a great movie, but there is too much love story non-sense to make it a real guy film. Plus, that movie massacres the historical events and people. I mean, no bridge at the battle of Stirling Bridge? And whats up with the English archers only shooting a few bows before the English send the knights in? |
Quote:
A Clockwork Orange is a greta move which could make the list. The book is even better. Ghostbusters was a good movie, but not better than Stripes or Blazing Saddles. Maybe better than Fletch. |

Blasphemy...maybe you need a refresher course... |
I agree with kcchief19......Worst list......While there are great movies listed, they left out a bunch (Old School, Fear and Loathing, Royal Tenenbaums, America History X, Dumb and Dumber, Memento, Super Troopers, Snatch) Those are just off the top of my head. I also agree with most of the movies everyone else has listed. And in my opinong, Fight Club has got to be the greatest movie of all time.

Well, I gotta side with the list makers as none of those should be on that list. As for Fight Club being the best movie of all time... uh, no. It's good, not nearly that good. SI |
Slap Shot is WAY too low on that list. That's at least a top 10 "Guy Movie".
|
Trade me right f-ing now...
|
I think Se7en has to be near the top 10. And maybe its not a "manly man" movie, but Every guy I know loves the Shawshank Redemption.
|
I'd vote for
Saving Private Ryan Se7en Das Boot Star Wars |
Star Wars and Ghostbusters are not "man movies."
if you are going to include them why not just put in Color Purple and On Golden Pod? |
hmmm Tora! Tora! Tora! and Heartbreak Ridge?
The Patriot? |
I'm wouldn't say Se7en is a "Guy Movie" either. Most women I know tend to love phsycological thrillers/detective movies.
|
I have also only seen ten of these, but this pushes me to want to see: Platoon, The Usual Suspects, and all of Animal House.
|
Damn Shorty, you need to hurry up and turn 17 so you can watch more of the movies.
|
And while Pulp Fiction is a classic and near the top of my favorites, even my Mom enjoyed it, so there goes the whole guy angle..
|
Quote:
The Usual Suspects should be required viewing for everyone. Go see this now. Feel free to watch it multiple times in the future as well. |
Not sure I'd call The Usual Suspects or Pulp Fiction a Guy Movies either. Seems like this site just wanted to put up any movie that's not considered a Chick Flick that they liked.
I know...I'm being picky... |
dola,
The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies of all time. I agree with JAG, everyone should have to watch it to graduate from high school. :D |
No "debbie does dallas"?
|
Cobra
Invasion USA Red Dawn |
