Talk about your short careers...
As I'm reviewing the draft history of my league using Fido's FOF Reporter, I'm noting for the first time a very high percentage of 4th-7th round picks who are out of the league within 3 years or so. I might actually get motivated to add up my percentages in my league, but I wonder if this is a little bit high in the game, or is it the result of my immature universe and a lot of highly rated players from the initial FOF player roster. Of course, I know the average real life NFL career is not that long. It will be interesting to examine this as my league matures. In any case, I did have one 6th round gem who is still starting for me 6 years later at DE. It is great to examine all of my draft picks (and other teams) and determine who performed up to expectations and who didn't.

Whats the average NFL career? Isn't it between 2-3 years?
(I haven't looked it up, I'm just too damn lazy) |
Well I did look it up. 3.3 years is the average length now.. so the game is actually pretty accurate (least according to my sloppy brief not-so-scientific investigation.) Interestingly the average length of a career has dropped as time has gone on. The average length of a career in the 70's was 4.6 years.

Is it really that high? That's kind of surprising to me

I was a busboy for three months. Shortest career I ever had.

Makes perfect sense. Low average, low draft pick.
However, I have noticed that heading into the post season, every team but mine has only 15, 18, 20, 22 players or so under contract , and that does seem a bit low to me. -Anxiety |
