Ng last name?
 

I noticed this while looking for a defender trainee in the USA. His name is "Rod Ng". How can his last name be Ng, especially when he is from the USA? If his assessed value wasnt so low, I might have bought him for the heck of it.

In real life are their not people in the USA with wierd first or last names?

I had a professor in college with the last name of Ng. Think his family was originally from Vietnam.

I agree that the game represents people from all over the world, not just the USA. But i thought it was odd that he originated from the USA with that last name since it is definately not a common American name to say the least. Like DukeRulesMAB mentioned, he knew someone, but they were from Vietnam. Therefore you would think it would originate from a Vietnam player.
Not a big deal, I just found it funny.

If the Vietnamese family had children in the US though...

Well, even though the person that DukeRules knew was "from" Vietnam, he probably was an American citizen and his children would have Ng as their last name. I mean there are plenty of weird names in both Canada and USA, in real life and on Hattrick...

Look at some of the weird names some of my youth pulls had:
Salim Asamm (more arab than Canadian)
Hadar Ivgy
Kemal Yazdanyar (of Russian heritage maybe)
Nicola Barbagallo (parents were Italian)
Ciro Mello
Amritaharana Akshay
Tarin Tayapirom

Those are only a few. I mean what kind of a first name is Amritaharana??? :)

Richard Ng is my coach. There are plenty of second generation Vietnamese in the US with that last name.

ok, yes i realize there are american citizens originally are from other countries. especially short of the native americans, everyone in america is from another country. however since the USA was founded mainly by western european countries, i thought it was funny that a name like Ng was generated by a computer program for someone from the USA.
apparently i am the only one who found it funny. its not a big deal.

saintjo, I guess the devs recognized the US as a melting pot of ethnic groups and incorpated many types of names into the US database.

Acording to the the name files on the US Census site, Ng is more common than the last name of our Vice president :)

The only question I have is how do you pronounce 'Ng'?

I think the oddest pull I ever had was a dude with the first name 'Numbers'. I've never known or heard of anyone with that name. However, when he led my series in scoring a few seasons ago, I wasn't asking questions...........

I think the most common response was 'eng', but the responses varied.

But then again, language is odd in a great way.

Ng is a very common SE Asian last name -- the "Smith" of SE Asia if you will.

Amritaharana is Indian (as in from India).

I was puzzled to hear it pronounced "Wynn". During the 1960's, the leader of South Viet Nam was Nguyen Kao Kee, and the announcers said "Noy-en" My wife then worked with a woman of that name, and she her husband said something like "Noyn"

There is a HS footabll coach in my area named "Ng", I must say I was suprised the first time I saw it.

According to the They Might Be Giants song "Ana Ng", it sounds like they say "Neg"...

There seems to be a lot of answers to the question of how it's pronounced...

That's what I assumed, that it was from India, just never said it out loud. I was pointing out the fact that for a while, many of my youth pulls sounded different than Smith and other commong North American names...

I actually think Hattrick has recently changed their way of naming players.

You know I play in France, and I used to have only players with real conventionnal french names (Martin, Dupont, etc...), which wasn't realistic at all. France is a bit like the US in the respect that it is the melting pot of Europe (we 've been invaded so many times... :) ) and there are a lot of 'name nationalities' representated in France, with immigration and what not.

Anyway, in the last 3 months or so, I have noticed new types of names appearing. French players with polish, arabic, or other exotic names, even spanish god forbid (;) Alf...)

Anybody else noticed this, or did I dream it up ?
