Sold my star...went shopping...poor again

Today i sold my young prospect that i pulled last week:

Juan Carlos Alba (22719055)
17 years, passable form, healthy
A popular guy who is temperamental and dishonest.
Has disastrous experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: España
Assessed value: 73 000 Euro
Wage: 840 Euro/week
Owner: Swamioms FC
Warnings: 0

Stamina: wretched Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: weak Passing: inadequate
Winger: poor Defending: weak
Scoring: solid Set Pieces: wretched

Sold by 535.000 Euros

And bought this:

The first solid defenseman in my team (the best one was passable):

Benet Guzmán
44 000 Euro, 29 years, inadequate form
Has weak experience and weak leadership abilities [Technical]

Stamina: weak Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: poor Passing: inadequate
Winger: wretched Defending: solid
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: solid

Bought by 135.000 Euros

The first solid keeper in my team (the best one was passable):

Elvio Carlos
365 000 Euro, 19 years, passable form
Has disastrous experience and poor leadership abilities

Stamina: wretched Keeper: solid
Playmaking: wretched Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: disastrous

Bought by 213.000 Euros

I was looking for another solid scorer, an older one, but ended buying this two guys. I hope that this two solids will improve my defense a lot that was my worst part of the team.

What do you guys think about this purchases? I bought them under HAM estimated prices, that seems a good thing.

Damn, i can't have money in my hands, i'm under 200k again :D

Not a bad job, IMO. You should see some very noticable increases in your defensive ratings. The prices are pretty good, considering the instability of the transfer market as of late.

I say good job Icy!!!

The prices seem on par, from what I've seen. As The_herd said, you should see some very, very noticeable increase in your defense ratings. That solid keeper should make a difference...

and the best is, you didn't even spend everything... :)

I usually spend to the last dime of pretty much every sale I make...

Personally I would have upgraded your fowards, unless you train them, or have two good ones already. It seems that Defense is overrated somewhat, and I personally think some great fowards will help you more then a great defense.

HT-ISSUE did a great article on attack vs. defense. It (combined with some results for my league games, when you realize my defense has been much stronger than my opponents, but their attacks have been uber strong) has made me consider switching to scoring training (at some point) and/or buying some WICKED good strikers (once I have money)...but since I'm not going to be switching from GK training at least until my 17 yo is outstanding (probably early-ish next season) or better...

In my series there was 3 teams that always had better midfield and better defense than me. But, my attack was extremly strong, and I own them.

I will support the theory that attack will become the new midfield.

Well if you need a striker, next season I'll be parting with a few of mine, namely a 22 y.o. formidable (perhaps higher).

Being a long time transfer raider/addict, I commend you on your purchases. It takes much discipline to not spend, when you acquire a very strong cash flow. But I've found that once you strengthen your team to a point, that you suddenly cannot make upgrades unless you save.

What I mean to say is that in the beginning the Ultra Nox didn't stink but had many major holes. So I was constantly watching the market to figure out if anything out there was a better piece than what I had, now I have an all solid backfield, all excellent midfield, all solid/excellent attack, with a mediocre winger (high priced acquisition). Why upgrade to excellent for my defense, and upgrading my midfield to formidable would take serious cash inflow...I'm training strikers, and my youth squad is tiptop so I'm not selling off to grab anyone. So I've become very dormant when it comes to transfer acquisitions, which is nice, because I tended to buy incorrectly.

But I ramble the main thing I wanted to say was that you need to accept our friendly for the cup...

Hm.. I've been shopping for a ($500K) excellent defender or ($1.2M) formidable defender to shore up my defense but I think that tells me I should limit my defensive efforts to finding an excellent and keeping that extra $700K towards a striker next season.

Not to offend any defenders trainers or anything but, simply as a matter of opinion, I can't see a whole lot of point in spending a million for a formidable defender. In my opinion, you're just better off loading up on 5 excellent defenders (for various uses and formations) and use those savings on upgrading your goalkeeping.

Yeah, we kindof decided that in chat last night- basically throw down the $500K, get a 3.5 star defender and spend that other $700K elsewhere (better striker when the time comes)
