quick little word puzzle
 

Name a word that is singular, but if you add an s to the end, it becomes plural, and then if you add another s to the end, it becomes a singular word again.

I know of three, though there may be more.

"care - cares - caress" has to be one answer...

I think I have seen the word "largesse" spelled without a final "e" -- if that's legal, then "large" would be a shaky entry here. (Haven't looked it up)

care etc. is one of the ones of which I was thinking.

large etc. is not one of the ones of which I was thinking, but may qualify.

Prince

Yes, prince, princes, princess is another one.
