The match is in progress, it´s half time.
39383 spectators had come to Truve FC Arena this cloudy day. The match took place on neutral ground. España had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Agustin Fonfria - López-Mingo, Fernández, Gortazar - Chicote Diaz, Mayol, Iriarte, Corbalán - Diaz Revorio, Expósito, Gómez Gómez.

Malaysia had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: bin Ismail - bin Othman, bin Ahmad, bin Che Rusli - bin Shahrum, bin Saidi, bin Hussain, bin Soimpon, Chi-Yung - bin Abdullah, Huya-Na.

España seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. A mistake by the home sides central defence in the 18:th minute allowed Zhang Huya-Na to score 0 - 1 for Malaysia. In the 38:th minute Malaysia put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. Scorer was Abd Jamil bin Abdullah. The referee showed Malaysias Mohd Jamil bin Che Rusli the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. In the 40:th minute Jaume Corbalán passed through the guests central line of defense, scoring the 1 - 2 goal. After 40 minutes Luis María Gómez Gómez got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn´t get the shot away. The referee showed Malaysias Abdul bin Saidi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 44 minutes into the fray Zhang Huya-Na popped up from nowhere, stole the ball and scored. Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 44:th minute Malaysia goal, making it 1 - 4. Zhang Huya-Na was noted down as the scorer. By then Zhang Huya-Na was a three time scorer - a hat trick! In the 45:th minute Malaysias Zabidi bin Ahmad received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Due to a severely mistimed tackle,Gregorio Agustin Fonfria spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 4. Malaysia, bringing the final ball possession rate to 54 percent, dominated the battle.

What's really impressive about that match is that all the Malaysian players in that match, except for one of the subs, were based at home.

Based at home?

Their club teams are all from Malaysia.

And that one has worked out a deal with the Malaysian Nat coaches. Other than that, if you buy a Malaysian youth hoping to make the Nat team it won't happen. They as a community, have stated, only players from their clubs will play nat and U20.

What is the overall goal of that strategy?

I think it is mainly to gurantee that their National team will be one of the best. Clubs are sacrificing their teams for the "Will" of the nation.

How does that make their National team better? It guarantees training for players?

I don't know, maybe so the coach can direct exactly what kind of training each player gets? They pulled off a lot of Divine ratings though. Impressive, although, like indoorsoccersim, the attitude leaves something of a bad taste in my mouth.

If they spread the word on that well enough, prices on their potential U-20/Nat teamers will drop hard, leaving the teams that buy the players more money to get an excellent coach, afford 10 physios, and invest fully in their youth squad.

That, of course, is depedant on the transfer market knowing this...if they can keep this up long enough, it'll eventually sink it, I guess.

Transfer market knows. There was a 600+ post thread on it in Global, another 200+ one in USA.

Ireland, England and Canada both had threads running on it to. Basically, the general consensus from what I gathered was, the rest of the community hates the idea.

So, if say, we as FOFC decided that for the next U-20 year we buy all the solid 17 yo and still train them and they get all great and become the best Malaysian players ever, they wouldn't have them on the U-20 team. Hmmmmm, I can see how they could easily be fucked over by someone with a ton of cash and a grudge.....

Except that if they stuck to their guns, people would be less willing to pay the huge sums that it takes to get a U-20 player. The return wouldn't be there anymore.

U20 runs the risk of suffering for it, since outsiders can still scarf up the early pulls, but I don't guess it would hurt the national team as much.

Unless the outsiders are masochists, they aren't going to get any of these players (assuming you believe they'll stick to their guns).

Essentially, Mayasian teams and other teams are bidding on two separate players. The Mayasian squad is bidding on a 17 YO solid who will have inad or passable experience when he's 21. The outside team is bidding on a 17 YO solid that'll be lucky to have poor experience when he's 21. The outside team would be foolish to outbid what a rational Malaysian team would be willing to pay.

Well, if the community is sufficiently annoyed by the whole thing, the national coaches can refuse to schedule games against the Malaysian teams, right?

Yep, I believe that to be the case.


Though, I think they intentially keep the number of nations even, so if Malaysia gets boycotted, another team has to sit out each week.

You fail to see another point. I personally, don't care if my trainees make the U-20 team or not. I don't think I can compete with top tier teams and don't even care to try. When it's early in the season, I just want to buy the best player I can, ignoring U-20 hopes. So many potential U-20 players are pulled, what is the use of putting all your hopes on him making the team?

So basically... I get money off for buying Malaysian players if the price tanks.

Also, if the price tanks... Malaysia as a whole will just get poorer :)) LOL!

Well, you should care if they make the U20 team or not because a) it makes them better players, and b) it significantly boosts their sale price when you're ready to sell them.

If you are outbidding a Malaysian team for a Malaysian U20 prospect, they are bidding on a better player who will sell for more in 4-5 seasons than you are. Meaning either they vastly underbid or you just screwed yourself by paying way too much.

Prices won't drop on Malaysian players just because of this. Getting them on the U20 team isn't the only reason to buy these uber-trainees. If people see 17 year old solids going for a lower price than anywhere else in the world, people from outside of Malaysia will bid on them because they are extremely good trainees for below what they normally go for.

a) The only way it makes them a better player is experience, and experience really doesn't give that much of a boost to the ratings. Besides I have a 20 year old up to inadequate experience that never even played a U20 match.
b) There's still the chance a Malaysian would want to buy him at an inflated price when you want to sell him. If one with enough money saw him on the market, he may want to overpay to bring him home and stengthen the U20 or national team.
