Five Great Players - TCY/FOF2k4 Dynasty

This is kind of a rip off of WussGawds awesome "Five Great QB's" thread. I finally got TCY back and I find myself checking back all the time to see if he has posted. I have decided to do one of my own.

It is a little different, we will still use five players but they will all be of different positions. We will track their progress through the years until their great careers have concluded.

I will introduce the five top recruits at their positions (QB, RB, WR, LB, CB) and a recap of the first season in the NFL. I will strive to update every day with at least something.

EDIT - My computer is having trouble getting this game on my hard drive. I emailed support so I should have this up and running by tonight or early tomorrow after classes.

Meeting our guys for the first time!

OK, got the computer thing figured out so here we go!

We are going to go with the top players at the following positions, as ranked by Rivals.com: QB, RB, WR, DE (instead of LB), CB.

This is the first look at these guys before they have even narrowed down their school choices. The All-state and All-American teams have yet to be selected but I will update as soon as they become available...

QB - LARRY BOSTIC - 5'10'' - 189 lbs - Rank: #1 QB, #1 Overall
Larry Bostic is an undersized but obviously highly touted quarterback from Drumright High School in Drumright, Oklahoma. Larry is a option type QB who loves to run the ball. He has nice touch but struggles on the longer passes. He wants to major in Education and is a very bright kid who holds a 4.00 GPA and a 1353 test score! Looks like he won't have to worry about being academically ineligible any time soon. Obviously Academics are his first choice when selecting his future school and team prestige runs a close second for him. He doesn't idolize any teams and his attitude is excellent. This looks like the all-american boy and should be fun to see where he lands. Can the hometown power Oklahoma Sooners keep Bostic in the state...we will soon find out!

Larry's high school stats so far (4 games):
Pass: 39-of-61, 704 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT // Rush: 87 car. 694 yards, 6 TD

DE - ERIK MANNING - 5'11'' - 224 - Rank: #1 DE, #2 Overall
Erik Manning is a pure pass rushing defensive end out of Keystone Heights high school in Keystone Heights, Florida. He is looking for a major in Algebra and holds an average 2.64 GPA and scored a 996 on his testing. Manning is looking for the best prestige in a school and won't settle for anything less for himself. He also wants to stay close to home. The closest school to him is the University of Florida, just 19 miles away, that would be my best guess for him to go. He doesn't idolize anybody and has a fair attitude about things. Should be fun to see the kind of sack numbers his projected phenom can produce over the years!

Erik's high school stats so far (4 games):
41 tackles, 5.0 sacks.

CB - PERCY LYON - 5'10'' - 174 - Rank: #1 CB, #3 Overall
Percy is a very talented defensive back out of Pittsburg High School in the town of Pittsburg, KS, one of the top high school programs in the nation. Lyon doesn't always come up with the most interceptions but his covering skills and athletic prowess are second to none. He is looking at obtaining a Physics degree and holds a 2.61 GPA and a 922 test score. Percy loves the mid-west and wants to stay relatively close and while his academic numbers don't really show it he is also interested in getting a good education. He doesn't idolize anybody and has a pretty good attitude.

Percy's high school stats so far (3 games):
20 tackles, 1.0 sack, 2 Interceptions.

RB - TOMMY SHERWOOD - 6'0'' - 196 lbs - Rank: #1 RB, #11 Overall
Tommy Sherwood is a stout kid out of San Lorenzo Valley High School in talent laden Felton, California. Tommy is known for his ability to gain yards after initial contact. He is looking to get a degree in Medicine and is another smart kid, accumulating a 3.70 cumulative GPA and a test score of 1224. Tommy has expressed his interest in staying close to home so chances are we will see him playing for a California team somewhere. Cal is the closest "major" school to him, UCLA and USC are both 292 miles away from him for 2nd closest. He is also obviously interested in team prestige. He idolizes no team and has a decent attitude on him.

Tommy's high school stats so far (4 games):
116 carries, 608 yards, 5 TD // 24 rec. 359 yards, 7 TD

WR - IRV MONTGOMERY - 6'2'' - 187 lbs - Rank: #1 WR, #21 Overall
Irv Montgomery is a tall, lanky receiver out of Methuen High School in Methuen, Mass. Irv has been described as having great hands but his size hinders him at times to get open. He is interested in obtaining a major in Geology (if he doesn't make it to the NFL, obviously) and isn't quite to the academic standards of Bostic and Sherwood, but still above average (2.92 GPA, 1090 test). Irv's main criteria for choosing his school is prestige, he wants to win a national championship in his collegiate career. He also wants to stay close to home. Boston College is just 28 miles away from his home and could compete for this gem of a wide out. He doesn't idolize any teams and has a fair attitude.

Irv's high school stats so far (4 games):
44 rec. 1,215 yards, 6 TD ! (He also has 26 tackles and 2.0 sacks on defense)

Those are our guys. I should update multiple times throughout the day, hopefully everyday and keep this thing moving. We will go into pretty much depth, esp. during the recruiting process...

No. 1 Recruit Bostic Signs with UCLA

Los Angeles (AP) - Today the deal was done. Rivals.com number one high school recruit in the nation has made his decision. 12 major colleges were aggressively going after the undersized but extremely mobile Larry Bostic from Drumright High School in Drumright, Oklahoma. In the end, it was the UCLA that had the most to offer.

Bostic, a 4.0 student, chose the Bruins over his other two finalists Michigan and Notre Dame. All three schools had a lot to offer on and off the field, all quality academic institutions.

Larry had this to say, "I would like to thank all of the schools that showed interest in me, it has been overwhelming and I am glad it's over. I will attend UCLA next year."

Many people have mentioned that Bostic's statistics are so overwhelming, especially in the running aspect that he could re-write the record books. It also begs the question of whether or not he is going to be a great NFL Quarterback, not being the best drop-back style passer.

No matter what happens with Larry after college, lets just have fun watching this kid run wild in the Pac-10 for the next few years, it should be a fun ride.

Notre Dame Signs Key Recruit Percy Lyon

South Bend (AP) - Defensive back Percy Lyon today made an oral commitment to the University of Notre Dame. Lyon, the highest rated cover man according to Rivals.com, chose the Irish over the University of Michigan, among many others.

Lyon has been described as the perfect fit at the cornerback position and should have a long and prosperous career.

Percy has accumulated 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 10 interceptions in just eight games this high school season. He has led the Pittsburg High Panthers, ranked #4 in the nation, as they look to capture their fourth strait State title.

"Keep an eye on this kid", says a clearly excited Notre Dame head coach Tyrone Willingham, "He has a bright future and has his head on strait. Those are the kind kids we look to fill our roster with. Not to mention, he is one hell of an athlete."

All 5 guys committed!

WR Irv Montgomery has made his decision. He will attend the University of Michigan nexy season! The Wolverines just barely missed out on two of the other guys (Bostic and Lyon) but made sure not to lose Montgomery.

Here is what we got:

QB Larry Bostic - UCLA
All-State Team: YES
All-Country Team: NO
Stats: (9 games) 74-of-116, 1,372 yards, 8 TD, 1 INT // 177 car. 1,408 yards, 10 TD.

RB Tommy Sherwood - Stanford
All-State Team: YES
All-Country Team: YES
Stats: (9 games) 244 carries, 1,545 yards, 10 TD // 44 rec. 666 yards, 11 TD.

WR Irv Montgomery - Michigan
All-State Team: YES
All-Country Team: NO
Stats: (9 games) 81 receptions, 2,186 yards, 13 TD (29.96 YPC).

DE Erik Manning - Miami
All-State Team: YES
All-Country Team: NO
Stats: (9 games) 94 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 1 INT.

CB Percy Lyon - Notre Dame
All-State Team: YES
All-Country Team: NO
Stats: (9 games) 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 10 INT.

I am going to go ahead and do the rest of the NCAA and NFL seasons and do a full report. I will then start up these guys collegiate careers!

mtaystl03 01-25-2004 10:57 PM

Chappy - Yeah, I guess he really took advantage over some weaker competition. What is scary is that he didnt make the All-Country team. A guy named Larry Bunch, who is going to Florida got it with just 68-1,752-11 is going! Another guy named Tommie Madison who had similar numbers to Bunch is also going. Investigation underway.

kingfc22 01-25-2004 11:21 PM

At least UM got one player. And a #4 ranking so far this year. Not to shabby.

mtaystl03 01-26-2004 12:35 AM

Yeah Michigan should be a powerhouse for years to come. I will update all of the five schools' recruiting classes along with our guys to get a feel for how they will do.

Chappy 01-26-2004 06:30 AM

Now that Irv has commited to Michigan I'll be pulling for him. GO BLUE!

2003 Post-season

Wild-Card Weekend

NFC:
> Carolina 6 @ Green Bay 29
>> Brett Favre continues his brilliant season with a 25-of-36, 254 yards, 2 TD and 0 INT performance. The Packer D held the Panthers to just 6 points. Green Bay moves on.

Next up: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12-4)

> Chicago 27 @ Seattle 37
>> Trent Dilfer is looking to win another Super Bowl as a mediocre QB. Just gets the job done again going 20-for-36 for 189 yards, 3 TD and NO interceptions. K Josh Brown nailed 3 FG's including a 51 yarder and 4-4 PAT.

Next up: @ Philadelphia Eagles (13-3)

AFC:
> Indianapolis 16 @ Tennessee 17
>> Eddie George rushes for 107 yards and CB Samari Rolle defends SIX passes as the Titans hold off the Colts. The difference was the Colts' inability to get the ball in the end zone in the 2nd half. 4 trips to the red-zone led to three Vanderjagt FG.

Next up: @ Buffalo Bills (11-5)

> Miami 21 @ Baltimore 24
>> Miami sqandered a 14-0 first quarter lead as Matt Stover's 50-yard field goal with 5:02 left in OT propels the Ravens to the second round.

Next up: @ Kansas City Chiefs (13-2-1)

Divisional Playoffs

NFC:
> Green Bay 35 @ Philadelphia 41
>> Despite great efforts from Brett Favre (367 yards, 2 TD) and Ahman Green (126 yards, TD) the Pack fall to Donovan McNabb's 16-of-26, 194 yards, 3 TD performance. Corey Simon sacked Favre twice in key situations as the Eagles move on to their 3rd strait conference championship game.

> Seattle 30 @ Tampa Bay 10
>> The Seahawks stun the defending champion Bucs 30-10 at Raymond James. QB Trent Dilfer does it again, 23-of-34, 299 yards, 3 TD to 1 INT. On "D" Randle and Okeafor combine for 3.5 sacks to earn Seattle a trip to the NFC Championship game in Philadelphia.

AFC:
> Baltimore 27 @ Kansas City 13
>> Jamal Lewis set the pace for the Ravens as they go into Arrowhead and upset the Kansas City Chiefs. Lewis rushed just 23 times for 126 yards and a score. Lewis Craig returned an INT for a TD in the 1st quarter and Baltimore never looked back.

> Tennessee 24 @ Buffalo 23
>> In Buffalo's re-match with Tennessee since the "Music City Miracle" things were looking good for the Bills who jumped to a 14-0 lead behind two Travis Henry scores. Steve McNair leads the determined Titans back with 3 TD passes of his own (to Kinney, Mason and George). Gary Anderson boots a 22 yard FG with 1:36 left in regulation to send the Titans back to Tennessee for the AFC Championship game.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The Philadelphia Eagles jump out to a quick lead and take a 27-13 advantage into halftime. It seemed as though they would end their draught of Super Bowl appearances.

Trent Dilfer and the Seattle offense had no answer as Corey Simon sacked him twice in the 3rd quarter to propel the Eagles to the Super Bowl! McNabb was just too much again, going 21-of-27 for 379 yards and FOUR TD, NO INTS!

Final score: Philadelphia Eagles 37, Seattle Seahawks 23

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Everybody knew this would be the game to watch. Two great defenses battling it out. Baltimore struck first with a Matt Stover FG and the score at halftime was 3-3. The third quarter was all Tennessee as Gary Anderson would boot a FG and Steve McNair would find rookie wide out Tyrone Callico from 4 yards out to jump to a 13-3 lead.

The upstart Ravens wouldn't give up. Kyle Boller completed a nice drive at the beginning of the 4th quarter with a 7-yard strike to Frank Sanders. Stover nailed a 33 yarder to tie the game with just over 6 minutes remaining.

With :01 seconds on the board, Gary Anderson kicked yet another game-winning chip shot field goal to set up the 2003 Super Bowl.

Final score: Tennessee Titans 16, Baltimore Ravens 13
