Dell, Dell, Dell

I must've called Dell 8 times today. I'm trying to buy a server rack for my rack mountable Dell server. Makes sense to me. Nobody could give me a price. I was transferred all over the place. One guy told me the "rack n rails" guys weren't in today. Not one? Was there a "Rack n Rails" Golf Tourney that wasn't advertised?

I offered one guy a trade. If he gives me a quote on a 2410 24U rack for my Dell 6600 server and I'll give him one of our B-52's. He thought that was a fair trade. He e-mailed me a quote on the Rails (which I already knew from the web pages) but he never got back to me on the Rack itself. No B-52 bomber for him...

Another guy found a 2410 harddrive. Did I want one of those he ask? I said, only it's a really big friggin' harddrive that sits inside a handy 2410 24U rack cabinet. He laughed. I cried.

I'll resume the fight on Monday. It's not the exact same thing as what I did in Turkey, but it's definately entertaining. Or maybe that's all relative to living in Louisiana...who knows. :)

Either you kept getting calls transferred to a new batch of Dell interns
or
the regular folks were hanging with the "Dude, you're getting a Dell" guy.

(just wondering, since I can't remember exactly how long you were in Turkey, did you ever see either of the ad campaigns I'm referring to? If not, this post probably makes zero sense)

Sorry Jon,

Never saw those commercials, but heard a lot about them....hear at the FOFC, no less. :)

Tekneek 01-23-2004 11:35 PM

Hey, did you ask them where they were? Maybe some of the calls are still going to India.

Blade6119 01-23-2004 11:47 PM

maybe that "dude you getting a dell" guy was HornsManiac...he got banned from here around the same time those commercials went off...and he did work for dell right up to his banning at which point he got fired: "Dude, your getting a pink slip"

Well, if they were dumb enough to hire HM, chances are that they won't be able to help you...:D

We had another Dell employee on the board at the same time. Maybe when he's around, he can point you in the right direction?

Probably get a visit from Ashcroft now, offering to give away a B-52 like that.

What did HornsManic exactly do with Dell, what position?

Is it just me, or is Dell not as good as they are made out to be. It seems they are losing the luster, and that the customers are starting to see this?

Dell was an innovative idea. It was a good idea. They proceeded to nickel-and-dime their customers over everything, while trying to do everything on the cheap otherwise. It is catching up to them. I hope it catches up to most of Corporate America who seems to be on the 'pay-more-for-less' bandwagon now.

Besides focusing on not going through internet, was this the really innovative idea though that made Dell "fly"?
