TV Shows that need to come out on DVD

A lot of TV Shows and cartoons have finally found their way to DVD. But many of my old favorites still have not, and probably won't. I would love it if they did though...

Nightstand
Dinosaurs
Thundercats
The Tick (cartoon)

Any other shows that haven't made their way to DVD but should?

samifan24 01-26-2004 07:59 PM

I'm probably in the minority here, but how about Early Edition?

Maple Leafs 01-26-2004 08:00 PM

Any list begins and ends with Married With Children.

Dammit Fox, you're sitting on a gold mine...

sabotai 01-26-2004 08:01 PM

I thought they did start releasing Married With Children DVDs...maybe they plan to. I really dont' think it'd be much longer for that show. You're right. That'd be a goldmine.

There are some DVDs out there, but not full seasons.

I read somewhere that MWC is the only reason anyone gets that FX cable station Fox owns, so they want to keep it exclusive to that. Bastards.

Pyser 01-26-2004 08:05 PM

Dr Katz.

End Of Discussion.

NoMyths 01-26-2004 08:07 PM

That's twice now people have claimed the list is done or the discussion is over.

Kodos 01-26-2004 08:09 PM

Greg The Bunny. Beginning of new, equally important discussion.

MJ4H 01-26-2004 08:12 PM

SEINFELD.

Oh and The Third Eye (old Nickelodeon series of mini-series(es?))

Draft Dodger 01-26-2004 08:24 PM

all I really want is Newsradio and The Dennis Miller show.

MikeVic 01-26-2004 08:25 PM

Fucking Ninja Turtles!!!
Duckman
As mentioned, Seinfeld and The Tick (cartoon).

I'm sure there's more, but those four are on my mind right now.

cthomer5000 01-26-2004 08:31 PM

Undeclared.

The new discussion (started by Kodos) is now finished.

sabotai 01-26-2004 08:36 PM

Starting a new discussion on how I forgot about Newsradio and would love that on DVD. Also, I would like The State on DVD.

Glengoyne 01-26-2004 08:40 PM

The Tick would be wonderful.

My wife bought a bootleg set of the tapes a few years ago for my Christmas gift. I think she was disappointed with the quality, it was pretty much crap. I loved it though. It was so nice to see the old episodes again eventhough the video was scratchy and the sound garbled.

I think this is one of those things where the creator and whoever owns of the rights hate each other too much to do business though.

Coop 01-26-2004 08:51 PM

First season of Seinfeld is coming out next winter.

They show the episodes on Teletoon in Canada sometimes. :)

sterlingice 01-26-2004 08:55 PM

I would love to get The Tick. Last I saw, Comedy Central still had their rights. Then again, they haven't shown them in about 3 years. The good news is that Dilbert and The Critic are coming out this week so maybe Duckman and The Tick, two other staples of CC's animation block can't be far behind...? *crosses fingers*

Groundhog 01-26-2004 09:00 PM

The Mysterious Cities of Gold. Though apparently it's happening at some point in the not terribly distant future.

BigJohn&TheLions 01-26-2004 09:05 PM

Bakersfield P.D.
WKRP in Cincinnati
Welcome Back, Kotter
Thundarr The Barbarian
The Six-Million Dollar Man
Miami Vice
The Critic (released 1/27)
The Dukes of Hazzard
Spencer for Hire
A Man Called Hawk
Maude
What's Happening (R.I.P. Rerun)
Shaft (CBS Tuesday night movies)

is that enough for now?

Great site Big John. Everyone here should go vote to try to get some of these out.

sabotai 01-26-2004 09:24 PM

dola,

According to the site BigJohn linked to, Married With Children is out in season box sets. In fact.....

The first season has been out since before Christmas.

kcchief19 01-26-2004 09:26 PM

Seinfeld is clearly No. 1. It would also be nice if they speeded up the release of The Simpsons. At the rate they are going, DVD will be an obsolete format before they get to season 8.

Now that Freaks and Geeks is coming, I'm covered on cult faves for a while. Newsradio is soming out this spring. WKRP would be great, but it's going to take a while. The studio that owns the rights has said that it's going to be a struggle to get the music clearances. Miami Vice will be even more of a nightmare. I don't think either show would be the same without the original music.

The first show I'd mention that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. There have been rumblings, but nothing yet.

Bearcat729 01-26-2004 09:30 PM

The Greatest American Hero

But then I'd probably be the only one who buys it

k0ruptr 01-26-2004 09:30 PM

I'll second early edition, I would definetly pick that up on dvd sets.

judicial clerk 01-26-2004 09:32 PM

Another reason to get FX is The Shield. That is a cool show.

I have season 1 on DVD. In the preface, Matt Groening says (and I quote) :

"So enjoy. We've got more Simpsons episodes to make, then broadcast, then re-run, then chop up for syndication, then sell to you on DVD. But you know something? We wouldn't have it any other way!"

your pal, Matt Groening

Gotta give him credit for being honest.

I remember those came out on video quite a while ago (in their entirety) so maybe DVDs are possible.

Yes, great show...sadly replaced by "another" stinking "lawyer" show.

CamEdwards 01-26-2004 11:15 PM

I could swear I saw "The State" out on DVD this past weekend, but maybe it was "Upright Citizens Brigade".

Easy Mac 01-26-2004 11:17 PM

Nah, not yet, but you can download all the episodes if you know where to look.

Peregrine 01-27-2004 12:26 AM

It definitely aggravated me the other day to see that crappy live-action Tick out on DVD, but no sign of the cartoon Tick, which I think many more people would actually buy.
