Promotion advice

I'm a DIV 6 owner (VI.69 Hickory Storm) who is in good shape for an automatic promotion (undefeated in 9 games since taking over the team). I'm looking for and and all suggestions on how to make my team competitive in DIV 5 next season. I use a 3 5 2 formation and my coach is passable and offensive minded. I'm roughly +20K in funds with 1 home game remaining and I'm assured of having the top striker in the league and hopfully promotion 1st place money. I haven't upgraded my arena yet either.

Upgrade your midfield and once you get to dV upgrade your stadium if you do well.

Upgrading your stadium is definitely a priority. You'll be running out of cash very quickly with that standard 7000 seat arena...

If he promotes and gets crushed he won't fill it. If this was 5-6 weeks ago I would have said upgrade, but right now he should probably wait to see what his competition next season looks like.

Make sure all three of your midfielders are solid playmakers. Upgrade stadium to at least 12-15,000 seats.

You'll need to scout your series and find out what kind of midfield you need to be competitive -- I can often get away with weak in my series, which is fairly strong but weighted more toward attack and defense, there aren't any midfield trainers. Other than that, if you shoot for mid-50's NSI ratings, you should be able to stick in most series. To get there, just look for where your weaknesses are now.

+20k won't give you an awful lot to work with, in any event. You'd be looking at passables in most positions for that kind of money.

passables with no secondaries for 20k :)
you can always go into the wonderful world of debt. only 5%. thats better than any credit card.

Nyarlahotep 02-05-2004 02:17 PM

He is going to have a bit more than 20k after he promotes.

Upgrading your stadium is definitely the priority. Even if you don't perform all that well in V you'll still fill more than 7000 seats.

Not quite . . . that's 5% per week, which works out to an APR of over 1300%. I've known kinder loan sharks.

HA, thats true, I never thought of it like that. They are ripping me off :) Between the Hattrick loan sharks and the Hattrick construction company that never gets the arena additions done on schedule, we are all getting screwed :)

I'm worried about promotion, too. But I have to:

1) hope the abandoned team in front of me gets a tie or loss in one its final two games;

2) win my last two.

CSmith, if you'd like to compare your squad to mine, I'm hitting 50 NSI (barely) and will have four solid starters (only one at MF, though) with a trainee keeper expected to pop solid early on. The other spots are all passable, with lots of depth at MF.

I'm nervous.

i'm at 50 nsi... i got lucky, 1/2 of the teams in my series were abandoned so i went through the laegue the first time with little problem... i'm looking forward to promoting to get some more active teams...

i'm motsing for the first time this weeknd.
