OT: The Beatles & Jay-Z ::gasp::

It's called "The Grey Album", its availible online for download. A West Coast DJ named Danger Mouse took cuts from "The White Album" and from Jay-Z's recently released "Black Album".

What happened was, Jay-Z sent out copies of his album to DJs with no music, just lyrics so they could remix it.

EMI, the label that owns The Beatles recordings have sued to crack down on it. right here

Even if you're moderately curious, go here before they pull it. It's either interesting, cutting edge or an abomination, depending on who you are. A lot of major media markets reviewed it and thought it was hot. I dunno what I think....I'll need to play it a few more times.

I read about this in rolling stone and meant to check it out.

Sounds interesting enough to me. Thanks for the link.

I really like this. There's another album, the White Albulum (sic), which is very similar, but I think DJ Danger Mouse's effort is fantastic. It's a shame he has to pull it.

Good on Jay Z for encouraging this behaviour as well.

I have no problem with Jay-Z advocating the distribution of the album, but I do have a problem with people making money from it without the royalties to the Beatles (or Michael Jackson as the case may be). If people want to give it away, cool.

Not to threadjack here or anything, but how's the JBL going skrath? I kind of regret not taking the chance to take the reigns of a team as I have some more time on my hands now.

*just waiting for some of the older posters to scream blasphemy*

It's going really, really well. I'm working pretty hard on the Studio - the client that allows GMs to view all stats, praise/criticize players, read news reports, do their rosters/strats etc. - and we've started the 2015 Regular Season (the 25th season). We've now got a full load of GMs and about three or four on the waiting list..maybe it's time to expand again :)

I love it...

cthomer5000 02-17-2004 08:05 AM

is this already gone?

Draft Dodger 02-17-2004 08:52 AM

still there, but it's running pretty slow.

I like it. I suppose I would like it even more if I'd ever heard the White Album.

*ducks*

Are you kidding me?!

Ksyrup 02-17-2004 09:06 AM

I'm not much of a White Album fan, but I still don't want to hear this.

it's true. although I know I've heard some of the songs on there (I recognized While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Helter Skelter from the brief Gray Album listen).

just never got into the Beatles. someday, maybe

I think overall it's better than the Black Album. Too bad he destroyed Dirt Off Your Shoulder though, that one sucks on the Grey Album and was the standout on the Black Album.

I must say although I'm not really a rap fan, I'm a huge Beatles fan and I like it. DJ Dangermouse really did a great job with this and I'd least give it a listen, even if you're a Beatles fan and think you'll hate it.

That's because the Timbaland beat was soooo hot, that there was nothing he could do with it. One of the reviewers mentioned that too, that he just butchered it. But yeah, that song wasn't meant to be remixed.

Still, its music you can nod your head to. I'll try slipping it in a party once and see how long it takes folks to notice.

My definite favorite is the one that uses "piggies" as the basis of the music. Pretty amusing/interesting stuff. Well done.

Only listened to most once or twice. Overall, solid, but Dirt Off Your Shoulder and My First Song are nowhere near as good as the Black Album. Can't really say anything about the White Album.

Bumping this for those that may have never seen or heard about the Grey Album. The shit is still hot.

there are several remixes

The Double Black Album is Jay-Z and Metallica...not too terrible, but not for everyone I reckon
