Oops..

The local radio station here (WTEM) is reporting that new Ranger acquisition Alfonso Soriano is actually 2 years older then reported, making him 28 instead of 26.

rkmsuf 02-18-2004 02:49 PM

you're kidding...

SirFozzie 02-18-2004 02:52 PM

To steal a quote from saturday night..

"Tom Hicks, you ignorant slut!"

cthomer5000 02-18-2004 02:54 PM

Did anyone see/hear when Neal Boortz called Bob Barr an ignorant slut?

I'm not kidding but haven't been able to find independent verification of this yet.

Additionally it wasn't on the latest 980 Sportscenter... so I'm wondering if they are retracting the "report"

I think you are pulling our legs...

mauchow 02-18-2004 03:04 PM

The deal almost has to be voided. A whole bunch of things are taken into consideration after this. One way the yankees could go is offering compensation(which is the most likely route). I don't know how else this could be handled other than voiding it. What does everyone else think?

Franklinnoble 02-18-2004 03:05 PM

I think it's true.. I heard the same thing on the radio out here in Sacramento... but they said that the Yankees knew about it and told the Rangers prior to the trade, so, no, it would not void the deal.

rkmsuf 02-18-2004 03:05 PM

I believe both teams have acknowledged that they both knew this prior to the trade...

I think they should also make the Yankees take Chan Ho Park, and give the Blue Jays Mike Mussina.

I think now that I have failed in my attempts to find independent verification of this that I'm taking the earlier report with a large grain of salt.

Secondly I don't think MLB rules would allow for the deal to be voided just because the player is older then they thought. None of the other players who turned out to be older then was originally believed were forced to void their contracts, and I suspect the trade ruling would be similar.

Yes, ScottVib, perennial liar and make-believer, is at it again rkmsuf.

MikeVic 02-18-2004 03:06 PM

Shouldn't the Yankees be fined for this or something? If they knew... why did they not report it before the trade?

Ksyrup 02-18-2004 03:06 PM

Yes, this has already been "leaked" according to rotoworld.com, but for some reason, no one picked up on it. This was placed on rotoworld at 2:30am, attributed to the Dallas Morning News:

Alfonso Soriano is two years older than his listed age of 26, the Rangers have revealed.
Soriano revealed his actual age to the Yankees last summer and the Rangers knew the truth before trading for him this week. This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as there have been rumors about Soriano being older than his listed age ever since he became a top prospect. The change makes it less likely that he'll get much better than he is now, but since Soriano is such a unique player, he could go in any direction regardless of how old he is.

It's true, I was just pulling your leg and it's already come up here.

Soriano had told the Yankees and I'm sure the Yankees told the Rangers...it's just a news item...

ScottVib 02-18-2004 03:08 PM

Thanks for the verification.

You stay out of this junior ;)

tucker342 02-18-2004 05:19 PM

I figured it was just a matter of time before he admitted he was older than what he said he was.

BigJohn&TheLions 02-18-2004 05:47 PM

Maybe the Yankees are now owed even more for giving up a player who is really older and wiser than previously thought. Texas should now pick up A-Rod's entire contract and give the Yanks a lefty pitcher.

I hate the Yankees. Let's hope A-Rod breaks his ankle tripping on the bag at third and needs a-rod in his leg, ending his season. (Wouldn't the talk radio be fun in NYC then?) :D

NoMyths 02-18-2004 05:50 PM

I would just like to take this opportunity to point out that Fritz is actually 7 seconds older than he claims.

MrBug708 02-18-2004 07:33 PM

Does anyone actually think Pujols is on the southside of 26?
