Question about excellent+ wingers vs forwards

I'm stuck in one of the hellish DV series out there. We've been battling for the top 4 or 5 spots all season despite 2 bots basically dragging us down. I'm now training PM, after about two seasons of defense.

Basically my average ratings are: solid/excellent midfield while PICing, brilliant/outstanding/formidable on defense and formidable/excellent/formidable on offense.

I know I could use an upgrade on the wing and at forward, but my question is would it be better to get a formidable or outstanding winger or a similarly skilled forward? I've only got solids at those four positions, three of which I'm trying to bump in experience before selling or turning into eventual coaches, and the other is my clown. Everyone else on the team is excellent (all 3 defenders), formidable (goalie) or outstanding (all 3 middies).
So for anyone who knows about those two facets of the team, where could I get the most bang for my buck immediately? I really want to get the hell out of series V.152, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

clowns don't have to play to be your team leaders...

get relegated out of your serie is another option.

on a side note, i got a formidable central attack (my highest rating ever) with a repositioned solid and two inadequates... i'm on the lookout for a solid scorer with inad passing.

For that question, my guess would be a forward, simply because a forward's scoring helps both central attack and is the second taken into consideration for wing attack as well, while a winger's skill isn't taken into consideration in central attack at all...

OK, so what's the longterm benefit of training wingers then aside from rapid turnover?

Go train wingers. I don't want anybody else watering down the Striker market. ;)

Benefit of Winger Training: Currently that's where the $$$$ is at. Take a look at winger prices. Pretty ridiculous, but justified. Wingers have to have just about every skill to be good.

I don't plan on ever training wingers. I think they are the most worthless aspect of my team. If anything, I may eventually train scoring after a few more seasons :D

I get Formidable wing attacks with Solid wingers and passable forwards, but only Excellent central attack. I think the key is both IMs have Passable passing.

I'm interested to see how the low Solid forward I bought last night changes my attack ratings for my qualifier.

two possible ones:
1) nobody trains winger (supporter stats says 4%, compared to 23% playmaking, 12% scoring, 13% defending)
2) you increase two ratings at once on your match report, the right and left attack

Whee! Yeah, wingers are useless. That's it.

It depends on if you want to improve your wing attack or your central attack. The easiest way to improve your wing attack is obviously with a winger. The side benefit of improving the winger position is that you can hopefully upgrade the playmaking skill as well.

Edit: Frog is right though, if you're only buying one player and all you care about is offense, buy a forward.
