The NFL is becoming FOF
Think about it...
Player for player trades: First the rumored Bailey-for-Portis deal, now Galloway-for-Keyshawn. I thought these never happened in real life? Heck, the rumored Bailey deal even follows the FOF standard of player-for-player-plus-pick. Peyton Manning makes it FA without an extension: This happens at the beginning of every FOF2004 career. I always hated it -- teams always sign their stud QBs to extensions before they get a sniff of free agency. Who knew? Due to past injustices...: Danny Wuerffel pulled this one on the Redskins. The QB Trade trick: This is my favorite. The Eagles actually pulled off the old FOF trick of using a late pick to draft a QB, barely playing him, and then trading him for a high pick once his green bars went up a bit. Amazing. So two questions spring to mind: 1.) What FOF quirk will be the next one to make it to the NFL? 2.) Does anyone want to contact the NFL and suggest some house rules? |
Yes. The next primadonna that holds out for a new contract can be converted into a punter and released. :D
|
A 1st round draft choice will hold out the entire season.
He will then re-enter the draft the following year and be drafted by the same exact team in the 1st round again... |

The NFL draft will reference "blue bars" and volatility ratings.
|
Some team A will be offered a trade by team B, possibly immediately before the draft.
Team A will consider the deal, and after mulling over different counterproposals involving adding or subtracting a draft pick, offer the same deal back to Team B. Team B will decline the trade as unfair. |
It's a good thing the Bills made that Olandis Gary to the Lions deal last year. If they tried it this year, they'd get the "We're not interested in trading for a player you just signed..." message.
|
FOF2's "injured players not healing" comes to mind...
|
this is hilaious lol

Terrell Owens will ask for a 6 year, 100-million dollar contract.
in a stunning turn of events, tennessee will meet his demands, only to learn that, due to being 20-mil over the salary cap, they cant afford him. undaunted, owens will only go so far as to lower his demands to a 6 year, 87 million dollar deal. 1 week before the season starts, the bills will sign him to a 1 year, 600-thousand dollar deal. |
No descriptive analysis or interpretation will be allowed anymore - just presentation of many, many numbers. It will be up to each fan or viewer to figure out what all of those numbers mean. j/k :D

The good thing about this though is that Mel Kiper would go back to being a hair stylist and we wouldn't hear the likes of Joe Theismann or Deion Sanders anymore. |
I'm not sure how many trades we'll see like this in years to come but I think one reason for this is because teams handle the salary cap better than they used to. It used to be that most teams were frantically restructuring contracts and cutting players to get under the salary cap by the deadline but nowadays it seems like teams have plenty of cap room before preseason transactions.

there will be a movement to abolish calling the positions LDE and RDE, SLB and WLB, LCB and RCB, etc, because it's all so confusing.
|
Team A will draft a QB in the first round. The QB will sit on Team A's roster for 2 years behind their starter. Then Team A will trade said QB to Team B for 3#1's and 2#2's. Said QB will sit on team B's bench for a year, and then be cut as team B already has a stud QB.
|
General Managers will start reading the horoscopes of all of the players they are aiming to sign and eventually prefer the "overactive leo" over the "homesick capricorn".
|
A G.M. will openly questions his coach's need to game plan at all.

We've already seen signs of this in Washington last season... |
Well, Washington seems to be the center of FOFalization in the NFL anyway...
|
Seattle wins the Superbowl, multiple in fact. This happens right after Dallas moves to L.A. (which has happened in each of my FOF2004 careers)
|
You will offer a player a massively backloaded contract. A few years will pass, and then you will run the Cap out option on him. Then his contract won't be allowed to be renegotiated cause of its severly backloaded nature.
|
Did anyone else catch that dolaquote by Buccaneer? Pretty soon, he's going to start acting curmudgeonly strictly in the third person.
|
Sort of made sense since I didn't know if was a dola or not and editing seems to be ignored sometimes (esp. when someone is in the process of quoting me for the purpose of calling me names ;) ).
