Trading managers in baseball

Granted, its only happened one time (1960, Tigers traded manager Jimmie Dykes for Cleveland's manager Joe Gordon), but I know it obviously can't happen in another sport. Since baseball managers - and coaches for that matter - are the only non-athletes in sport to wear uniforms like the players, I wonder if it could happen today.

You can trade draft picks for coaches in the NFL.

Yeah, but not actually trade the coaches. Like, the Bucs didn't send Dungy to the Raiders for Jon Gruden. They traded picks to get him. That's different.

I mean, physically trading managers in baseball. Because baseball managers don't wear suits and sit behind the players. They're like part of the team, essentially. It's an interesting sports relationship, relative to other sports where the manager brings togehter the coaches and players to form a cohesive unit, yet they're all workers too. Its like being in some factory, where in other sports, coaches seem to take on a more larger than life persona.

Oakland Manager Chuck Tanner was traded to the Pirates for, I believe, Manny Sanguillen or Rennie Stennett in the late 70s.

(Like in the NFL) the Mariners got a player as compensation for Lou Pinella going to Devil Rays

They eliminated that after Gruden left for Tampa.

Lou Pinella was traded for Randy Wynn just a year ago.

If so I offer Buck Showalter for any teams 85th round pick in 2038.
