I don;t think that is it. let me put it in context.

"Well, what can you say, grown folk be grown."

edit: I understand the sentiment, just not actual meaning.

Parents just don't understand.

is that guess or are you pretty sure?

corbes 03-03-2004 10:53 AM

maybe it's a way of dismissing someone's unpleasant character traits? as in, well, he's ignorant because he grew up that way?

Sort of like "You can't teach an old dog new tricks."

Are you sure it wasn't "groan folk be groan"? Cause that could mean, like, if a bunch of bad comedians were in a room, and one of the bad comedians made a bad joke, then they all would kind of groan at the joke. Or, more simply, "groan folk be groan."

So it mean older people have adult problems...

Are you fairly sure or are you guessing?

Pumpy Tudors 03-03-2004 07:58 PM

Is it really not obvious? This must be a joke.

Thanks

Pumpy Tudors 03-03-2004 08:53 PM

Why am I not convinced that that's what it means? I thought it meant the more obvious meaning.

Fritz 03-03-2004 08:57 PM

what is the more obvious meaning?

Franklinnoble 03-04-2004 12:01 AM

Why are you asking? Where did you hear this? What's so important about a grammatically poor euphamism?

Fritz 03-04-2004 05:58 AM

if I had wanted to mention that, I would have done so by now.

Pumpy Tudors 03-04-2004 09:47 AM

But it's obvious!!

The Afoci 03-04-2004 06:38 PM

The mean streets of hawley have taught me that grown folks be grown means that old folks are old, they aren't going to change.

Rough translation, I haven't been a rowdy one for a while.
