Craptacular 03-14-2004 02:43 PM

A lot of people hate Duke.

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 02:43 PM

lol
nah im just a bonafide blue devils hater.

Noop 03-14-2004 02:45 PM

I can not understand how you would hate a team so much? I mean I can't stand those damn Gator fans. The team I have no beef with because those kids are playing there hearts out for a bunch of armchair coaches.

Easy Mac 03-14-2004 02:47 PM

Well, Duke beat maryland 2 out of 3 times, is a probable #1 seed, and won 17 straight ACC tourney games...

Alf 03-14-2004 02:47 PM

Go Duke ;)

TargetPractice6 03-14-2004 02:47 PM

As a Kentucky fan I am obligated to hate Duke. Yay for Maryland!

Now THAT'S a load of crap if I've ever heard one. The refs ALWAYS give Duke the edge. Any Carolina school, for that matter.

GO TERPS!!!!!

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:00 PM

woah, if duke still gets 1 seed, im gonna be so pissed, the 1's should be ST. Joes, Stanford, miss st., and gonzaga, but since gonzaga wont get one, go kentucky, but they will prob give it to the dukies
which is BS

I am not a fan of either team at all but Duke go a raw deal today. I can remember atleast 7 stupid foul calls that went against both teams but most with against Duke. And please spare this they give them the edge crap cause when football comes around and Noles say it you all collectively(ACC) say "Shut Up"

:)

noop

Malificent 03-14-2004 03:06 PM

Duke deserved to lose the game but still deserves a number 1 seed. Didn't Miss. St lose in their conference tourney too?

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:08 PM

yea, I really think gonzaga deserves it over both of em, but they wont get one despite being ranked 3rd in the country and there only losses coming to the top 2 teams in the country, thats BS

Mississippi State? They needed to make the SEC finals for consideration, and didnt do it. Duke is prolly the best team in the nation top-to-bottom, playing in the toughest conference. St. Joe's will prolly be No.1 in the East, Stanford No. 1 the west, Duke No. 1 in the south, and either Gonzaga/Oklahoma State/Kentucky in the midwest.

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:10 PM

lol dont matter anyway, duke wont make the final four, they gonna choke again.

Ranked No. 3 in what? If your taking polls, those polls are pretty much thrown out when comes to seeding and who gets in and out. They look at RPI, SOS, Record (conference), key wins and losses, and last ten games.

Mississippi St? There is no way they should even be considered for a 1 seed.

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:15 PM

RPI 13 (eh not bad) SOS 137 horrible, last ten, 10-0 Key wins - at maryland, you could say georgia, only for the fact that they beat kentucky 2/3. key losses, ST. joes and stanford both by 7 points.

record 27-2, 14-0 conferance

I'd give em a 1

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:16 PM

I'm a huge hawaii fan.

*praying for an NIT bid. lol*

JeeberD 03-14-2004 03:19 PM

The 'Bows had better make it into the NIT, along with Boise and Rice...

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:20 PM

oh hey jeebs, lol bracketology just released there final projections, and utep is #1 in last four out

they better be wrong

JeeberD 03-14-2004 03:23 PM

Yeah, all day long I've been hearing either last team in or last team out, depending upon which "expert" I hear.

Andy Katz has said that he has an inside sourse that says the Miners will be the last team in. I hope his source is accurate...

Alf 03-14-2004 03:23 PM

With Ronnie Thuriaff (sp ?) frenchman from Gonzaga, you know what team I am really rooting for !!!

k0ruptr 03-14-2004 03:26 PM

well joe lunardi has only missed one team in three years, so lets hope for the second, I'll be pissed if richmond gets in over utep

The AP poll has actually been a better indicator of seeds than you give it credit for. Since 1994 the AP poll before the tournament has "predicted" 220 out of 249 teams within one seed of their actual seeding. By contrast the RPI has "predicted" 190 out of 249 in the same time period.

That said, I agree that Gonzaga will be a 2 seed.

mgadfly 03-14-2004 03:39 PM

I attend GU Law, so I'm more than a little biased, but I think the selection criteria needs to be reevaluated a little. With the way teams are normally seeded, the Zags will probably end up with a 3-seed.

They should get at least a 2-seed in my opinion, and I don't think any of the potential #1 seeds could have done better than what GU did, considering the hand they were dealt being in the WCC. They went out and scheduled a non-conference schedule that a lot of people figured would be the second toughest in the country (to Michigan St.'s) when they set it up.

And unlike a lot of the top teams non-conference schedule's, their games are on the road or at neutral sites. The problem is, a lot of those games ended up against teams that didn't have a particularly good season (Missouri, U. Washington, Stanford-their RPI is horrible, St. Joes, Maryland, Georgia, Eastern Washington-who like the Huskies started the season horribly, when they are actually a pretty good team, and Tulsa-the biggest disappointment of the bunch).

In conference play, nobody could have done better, as they weren't challenged in a single game until the semi-finals at Santa Clara against Santa Clara. It isn't like they can just decide not to play their conference opponents because they aren't very good, all they could do was beat each one of them easily, and go 17-0 in conference, like they did.

I realize that there are some really good teams who had great years that deserve the 1 and 2 seed as much as the Zags, but at the same time, I think the Zags played the hand they were dealt, as well as anybody this year. If I was on the committee I'd give the Zags a 2 or 1 seed just because I hate that none of the big time teams will ever go on the road to play someone like Gonzaga (Missouri only agreed after they decided to play the game in Seattle, a 6 hour drive from campus). Little schools should be penalized in seeding when they schedule cupcakes (like GU was a few years back) but on the flip side, big schools should be penalized if they refuse to schedule at least 1 road game against a mid-major school in the top few teams of that conference each season, in my opinion.

My predicition:
1 seed: Duke (despite lackluster end to the season), Stanford (despite SOS), Kentucky, St. Joes

2 seed: Uconn, Pitt, Oklahoma St., Mississippi St.

3 seed: GU, NC State, Texas, Cinci

I meant Stanfords SOS is horrible

Radii 03-14-2004 03:44 PM

Duke, Kentucky, Stanford are locks for 1 seeds IMO. I bet St Joes gets the last one now... I dunno, can't see Oklahoma State or UConn geting it, nor Gonzaga.

Good points. Looking at it though, I think that seeding of a No. 1 and No. 2 are very overrated.
