Oh my!

I look at these types of games and drool..

But the reality is.. the learning curve is huge.. not for strategy, but for the game mechanics.

Can anyone suggest a more simple, perhaps free game that introduces players to severe micromanagement in this form of game?

Thad - not sure what you mean by micro management in this case. I think these games are fairly straighforward. The "full game" scenarios can be too much to chew on, but the smaller scenarios are mostly move and fight.

If you go to the PC review section there are a threads on wargames, including a few that list games for newbs.
